for employees breaking a line four stories break that's our line and you say you know break it Can I grab the jackhammer and just break it it was just two weeks ago we told you about the former employees of a Salem plumbing company who say their boss told them to take advantage of customers urgent plumbing problems our Dan token is getting results he's here now what's going on with that company Dan well remember our first story hinged on a text message from the plumber to his employees about an underground pipe it's here this is the text message see right there it says break it well now there's evidence what we've uncovered led the company to stop doing business so this is the place yeah this is the place we introduced you to Mike Cepeda who took us back to a house in West Salem to apologize to the homeowner ray Thompson I'm sorry I appreciate your coming forward Mike says he intentionally put this hole in this sewer line when Thompson wasn't looking because his boss told him to my boss would call me hey did you did you break that right and I would say no I mean the gentleman sitting there talking to me and I'd have to wait for him to go and run the bathroom or go and do things and take a whack at this line dissipator worked for Rooter right plumbing it's also known as Salem Rooter calm it is owned by these people Chloe and Mike Lima Zepeda kept these text messages from Mike Lima about several different job sites they read break break the line make sure to break it up another explains break that pipe as you go and if anyone stopped by to look cover it up and and I said I found it Mike said okay break it and I said how much is it all of it Mike Cepeda came forward after we first did a story with another employee David Hildago he says he was told to break this line on his first day on the job I'm the green one he's the grayish one he also got a text message from Mike Lima that says breaking when the homeowner was not around but then he just kept calling and calling and I was like this doesn't seem right you know when he not outside break it when we asked Chloe lima about the text message she said it was all about keeping the customer from being alarmed do you expect me to believe that you're telling your guy to break the pipe when they're not allow they're not around to save them some sort of emotional trauma well it's unsafe as well how is it unsafe because there could be flying debris and we're also dealing with sewage well there's flying debris shouldn't your worker have goggles and a hardhat and some sort of safety protection yes he should the day after our store is showing the four former Rooter right employees the Rooter right website went from this to this it has said service temporarily unavailable for the last thirteen days if you look at the company's Facebook page the message reading this content isn't available right now has been displayed even longer hey Chloe this is Dan silken with Channel 6 News we've tried arranging another interview with the Lemus it appears that your website is down that you folks are no longer doing business I need to see if that is true please give me a call back as soon as possible this is what Chloe said the one time we met her in person I got to tell you I don't think people are gonna buy your explanation I think people are gonna go this looks like a smoking gun that they were pulling a scam I apologized that that is what you feel but the fact of the matter is is that the repair had to be done so what happens now the organ construction contractors board is already investigating two cases and we also want to remind people that as we reported Mike Lima he pled guilty in California to insurance fraud after three years of probation he got that case expunged okay you know when you need a plumber you need a plumber like right so what's your advice to customers all right if you can I know this is hard your toilet is clogged but get a second opinion to make sure you are not being scammed I'll also ask your friends for recommendations do you know a good plumber that maybe is the most important thing here and you can also check a background of a plumber and other contractors in Washington and Oregon we have links at coin comm you know a lot of people will always have an attorney they know they can go - my dad used to say it's more important to have a plumber someone you can trust and I think that's true in a lot of it alone my neighbor is a plumber and he's so frustrated by this story because he goes guys like this give the rest of us a bad name you know that's in a lot of professions unfortunately I like having the newsroom that I always email out and say hey you have a doctor you have a plumber you always have somebody well if you want us to look into
