past they offered Gro a very tempting price of 7 million for young Ronaldinho but the club rejected this offer by saying that it was too early for them to give up their most promising player just yet which led a lot of people to question how long would Gro be able to hold its newest Ace after the under 17 World Cup Ronaldinho had already earned his nickname Doo which means young in Portuguese following the tournament he quickly joined gmo's Senior Team by winning the Brazil Cup in 1997 Gro secured its place in the 1998 Capa libertadores the South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions title the kopas Minas a competition between professional teams from the Brazilian state of Sul and Minas in the finals Gro defeated the parata club and the supporters of Gro had a new hero his name was chanted by everyone even reaching the coach of the Brazilian national team vanderlay luxemburgo who called young Ronaldinho to join the celesa for the upcoming Copa America that year he made his debut for the national team on June 26th 1999 although he did not score a goal he played very well against lvia and Brazil won 3 0 young Ronaldinho hoped that his solid performance would secure his place on the national team during the 1999 Copa America but his spot on the team was far from certain however Destiny played a hand in helping young Doo Victory with the national team during the final match of the sa Paulo championship between Corinthians and palas Corinthian Striker Edelson Da Silva ferera known as Edon took the ball at Midfield and began to juggle the ball in front of a Palm's Defender this act was considered unsportsmanlike and an attempt to humiliate his opponent resulting in edleson losing his place in the national team Ronaldinho was chosen to replace him and received his first chance to play in an official tournament for Brazil at that time time the Brazil National Team boasted of a lineup of talented players the key team leaders were Rivaldo and Ronaldo both top scorers of the tournament with five goals each other star players included Roberto Carlos kafu daa and more playing alongside these players forced young Ronaldinho to match his skills to the others and he did not disappoint in the first game of the Copa America against Venezuela he scored one of the most iconic goals of his career his incredible play was broadcast on televisions worldwide and once again he drew the attention of major European football clubs Brazil would go on to win the Copa del Rey against Uruguay in the finals just like he did with the under 17 team he had won an international title in his very first opportunity with a Brazilian national team after winning the Copa America 20-year-old Ronaldinho became the best player in Brazil from that time on nearly all the stars from Brazil were playing in Europe and the hype around him was increasing every day Gro fans were even considering him as the greatest player play they ever had the next challenge Ronaldinho and his teammates faced in the national team was the confederations cup in Mexico naturally Brazil was considered the favorite and they reached the finals but lost to the host country Mexico 43 in this tournament Ronaldinho once again demonstrated he was one of the most important players for his national team he was chosen as the best player of the tournament and became the joint top scorer with Mexican Striker quok blano and Saudi marzuk Al otaibi in that year Ronald Ino experienced tremendous development both as a player and as a Persona he became a much more mature and professional player naturally he was asked to play for Brazil in the Olympic Games held in Sydney Australia with the hopes of Brazil winning the only trophy missing in their collection although they had an excellent campaign Brazil had a tough match against Cameroon the African team was winning 10 until the last minute when Ronaldinho saved Brazil by scoring a free kick however that was not enough for Brazil as the cameroonian team managed man to score the Golden Goal securing a 2-1 Victory Cameroon ended up winning the gold medal while the Brazilian players had to was from off the podium Ronaldinho later said that the loss in Sydney was the biggest disappointment of his career by the end of the year 2000 it was evident that Ronaldinho had outgrown the Brazilian League Gro received an astronomical offer of 80 million for Ronaldinho however the president of Gro managed to resist the temptation and rejected the offer the demand for Ronaldinho was so high that Jose Al Berto Guerero the club's president had an enormous Banner created to hang in front of gmo's Stadium declaring that Ronaldinho was not for sale he was just too valuable for gemo to let go his mere presence helped gemo raise revenue from the sale of jerseys and tickets to watch him play in gemo stadium most observers of Brazilian football speculated that when Ronaldinho would eventually move to Europe he would likely secure the biggest deal in the history of the sport Ronaldinho's contract with gemo was set to end in February 2001 his family and more specifically his elder brother decided that it was time to seriously consider a move to Europe Ronaldinho attempted to sign a preliminary contract with the French giant Paris s ger however in that case Gro would receive no money so the Brazilian team started a legal battle against PSG to retain the player this lawsuit had the most significant impact on Ronaldinho as he was banned from playing from either team until the lawsuit was resolved the lawsuit not only affected his Club performance but also his International presence during 2001 the player participated in only three games from Brazil friendly matches against the United States and Mexico and W 22 World Cup qualifier in which Brazil was defeated by Ecuador the lawsuit was finally settled in August 2001 when FIFA ruled that Ronaldinho was officially transferred to Paris St Germain the French Club had to pay an enormous transfer fee of €5 million to greo Young Doo left greo after playing 141 games and scoring 6 68 goals the departure was disappointing to Brazilian Club fans but deep down they realized that Ronaldinho was destined for greatness which could only be achieved in Europe when he arrived in Paris the hype around him was even greater he was greeted by 20,000 fans at the State to France his debut took place on August 4th 2001 in a match against Oger which ended in a 1-1 draw despite the immense hype and high expectations he did not score his first goal until the 10th game against Leon he scored the tying goal and the match ended in a 2-2 draw it was only a matter of time before he became a fan favorite he played for the public often delighting Parisian fans with his raw skills in dribbling his strong performance in the second half of the 20012 2002 season helped PSG reach the semi finals of the League Cup that year however the coach Louis Fernandez did not share the same enthusiasm for the player as the fans did the player and the coach often had disagreements according to coach Fernandez young Ronaldinho was spending too much time in the night life of Paris and often left the player on the bench rather than starting him despite these issues Ronaldinho's French season was going well and he expected to call to the Brazilian national team for the World Cup that year the team had a new coach Luis Filipe Scolari and was fighting for a spot in the South American Qualifiers for the world's most prestigious football tournament the young Brazilian star was called to the national team for a match on November 14th 2001 that Day Brazil defeated Venezuela 3 and secured its ticket to the 2 2002 World Cup the 2002 World Cup was unique it was held in two countries Korea and Japan Brazil entered the tournament with an unmatched attack led by three Rs Ronaldo Rivaldo and Ronaldinho they dominated their group during the group stages and won all three of their games Ronaldinho scored only one goal a penalty against China while Rivaldo and Ronaldo each scored three goals helping their national team advance to The Knockout round in their first knockout game Brazil faced Belgium and easily defeated the European team however the quarterfinals were more challenging as they played against one of the tournament favorites England the British team took an early lead but Brazil quickly tied it to a 1-1 and Ronaldinho made an extremely beautiful pass to revaldo who scored a goal however fate had more plans for young Doo that day as a few minutes later it would be his turn to conquer the British net at the beginning of the second half Brazilians had a free kick from the right side at a considerable distance the Brazilian players were set up on the right side of the goal to launch an attack once Ronaldinho kicked the ball into the English area as Ronaldinho prepared to kick he seemed to approach the ball Ronaldinho celebrated the goal like a child jumping up and down and excitedly embracing his teammates some people wondered if he really intended to score directly at the English goal or if his intention had been to cross the ball over the area to the attackers after the game he explained that kafu had warned him that the goalkeeper played too far from the goal so he took the shot and was very happy that goal turned out to be the game-winning goal for Brazil as they defeated England 2-1 however 7 minutes after scoring his great goal Ronaldinho received a red card leaving the Brazilian squad with only 10 players on the field it was a tough battle but they managed to maintain the score and merge Victorious Ronaldinho's red card meant that he would not be able to help his team in the semi-finals against turkey but it was not a difficult battle for Brazil as they ultimately emerged Victorious he returned for the World Cup final against Germany and Brazil comfortably won thanks to two goals from Ronaldo who was ultimately named the top player of the tournament and the best player of the year but let's not forget Ronaldinho's tremendous effort which helped ensure Brazil's record fifth World Cup title he left Asia with a legion of devoted fans around the world the 2002 cup was very successful for Ronaldinho and the immense hype around him only increased although his fellow teammate Ronaldo was the biggest name in the World Cup Tournament football experts recognized that Ronaldinho who was only 22 at the time had yet to reach his Peak as a player he returned to Paris sah for the 20022 2003 season but his continued disagreements with coach Luis Fernandez made it clear that the youngster wouldn't want to stay there despite the repeated Rifts with Fernandez Ronaldinho returned to the team for the 20022 2003 season wearing the number 10 shirt though his performances in the second season with the club were underwhelming compared to the first Ronaldinho still played admirably for the club on October 26th 2002 he scored two goals in psgs 3-1 victory over classique Rivals marsel the first goal was a free kick curling past numerous marsel players in the 18yd Box before sailing past goalkeeper vron run in on February 22nd 2003 Ronaldinho scored the goal of the Season as chosen by public vote against Green gamp Ronaldinho also earned praise for his performance in the coup to France where he scored both goals in the club's 2-n win over Bordeaux in the semifinals which repelled PSG into the finals after after scoring his first goal in the 22nd minute Ronaldinho capped the game in the 81st minute by expertly chipping the ball over the head of goalkeeper ol Ram despite Ram being in a favorable position for his performance Ronaldinho was met with a standing ovation from the Parisian supporters unfortunately for the club Ronaldinho and the team couldn't maintain the form that got them to the final losing 2-1 to auxer due to a last minute goal from Jean Alain Boom song despite Ronaldinho's performances the club finished in a disapp pointing 11th Place position following the season Ronaldinho declared his desire to leave the club as the Capital Club had failed to qualify for any European competition despite his relatively poor form at PSG compared to Gremo Ronaldinho's hype remained as significant as ever many were left wondering where this young star would land next three major powers of European football emerged as the top contenders for his signature Manchester United from England and Rivals from Spain Barcelona and Real Madrid we all know how it eventually unfolded when Ronaldinho joined the team Barcelona was not in its best form the transfer of Luis Figo to Real Madrid had complicated matters for the Barcelona board this transfer made Barcelona's president at the time Jan gaspart paranoid which led to many poor decisions they spent heavily on transfers that were destined to fail significantly increased player wages and release Clauses and even replace the manager Ferrer with Charles Rach Midway through the season however the these changes did not significantly improve the team's performance Barcelona barely managed to qualify for the Champions League largely thanks to Ronaldo's legendary hattrick in his last match against Valencia a week before Barcelona's iconic Captain Joseph Guardiola announced his departure from the club to join Roma due to issues with the management The Following season was not much different Barcelona finished fourth in the league while Real Madrid dominated with their galactico era after Real Madrid beat Barcelona in a 10's European semi-final they won their thir third Champions League in the last five seasons signaling the end of an era for the club in an attempt to revive the club gaspart brought back vanal Rivaldo the best player in the team left the club along with other players who did not get along with him to bolster the squad Barcelona acquired an upcoming Star recel however recel struggled to adapt to the manager and the players after wasting significant funds over the past couple of years the club decided to focus on lamasa and promote youth players during van Go's tenure several iconic players of Barca such as Andre inesta and Valdez made their debuts for the team however the team hit rock bottom when van gal's management and the Dutchman resigned after Barcelona found themselves just two points above the relegation spots in 15th Place caretaker manager ramir antique managed to guide the team to a sixth place finish earning a European spot antique however made some astute decisions such as moving Puyol from fullback to the center and giving Javi more freedom in Midfield nevertheless Rael May's issues persisted under the new coach as the Argentine refused to shake the Serbian manager's hand after being substituted in a league match after Ron gaspar's resignation in February the club's members demanded immediate elections and one of the candidates was a young catalonian group led by Jean laora and his second in command Sandra Rosal the members wanted new leadership and a fabricated transfer helped secure their win the summer of 2003 proved crucial for European football partly due to Ronaldinho he was said to be the main target for Sir Alex Ferguson in Manchester United Paul skoles later revealed that the club came very close to signing him Sir Alex Ferguson later attributed losing Ronaldinho to Barcelona to United's chief executive at the time Peter Kenyan the former United manager stated that there was a problem with his brother who was his agent but Peter Kenyan who was the chief executive then didn't get the job done it turned out that United was possibly closer to signing Ronaldinho than they realized at the time as Ronaldinho was Barcelona's second choice behind David Beckham Johan laporta campaigned to sign Beckham for United and even signed an agreement in principle with United for Beckham although not with the player himself but United already had a deal with Beckham to join Real Madrid and the England Captain didn't appreciate being used as a political Pawn by lorta Barcelona eventually signed Ronaldinho and as they say the rest is history with his decision to join the Catalin Club Ronaldinho followed in the footsteps of legendary Brazilian players like Romario Ronaldo and raldo Barcelona arranged a friendly match with AC Milan to introduce their new signing in many ways it was Lor's strategy to reassure disappointed Barcelona players that Ronaldinho was an excellent addition despite not getting Beckham Ronaldinho demonstrated this in that very match as Barcelona defeated the Italian Giants 2 as you can see young Ronaldinho arrived at the club with the mission of ending a long period of Shame and crisis although he had an instant impact on the club in his first year he suffered a s severe injury that forced him to miss most of the Spanish League season however everything changed when Ronaldinho returned to the team in 2004 he was in the league of his own he thrilled the crowd with moments of rare Brilliance and beautiful assists in his second half of that season Barcelona enjoyed a remarkable 17 game unbeaten run however Ronaldinho's absence during the first half of the Season proved crucial as the 17 game streak was not enough for Barcelona to become Champions they finished the Season Five Points behind Valencia nevertheless he managed to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award for the first time in his career despite ending the season without any trophies fans were very optimistic for the future and their optimism was well founded Barcelona had an extremely successful summer that year acquiring Portuguese Prodigy Deco and cameroonian future star Samuel Eto the latter became a fan favorite instantly and formed an excellent partnership with Ronaldinho the duo began conquering Europe starting with a convincing 30 Victory against Real Madrid in the El Classico many consider this match the beginning of the end of the galactico era the Barcelona team consistently demonstrated that they were among the best teams in the world despite losing to mourinho's Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League and missing out on the Copa del rate of Valencia Barcelona managed to secure La Liga a feat they hadn't achieved since 1999 Ronaldinho was the driving force behind the success and his popularity sworded kids in Barcelona were seen wearing his shirt and he was the focal point of the national team in 2005 he made significant contributions to the Brazilian team's victory in the confederations cup in Germany in the finals Ronaldo scored a goal as Brazil defeated their Arch Rivals Argentina by the end of 2005 he was unsurprisingly named FIFA World Player of the Year once again for the second consecutive time the Pinnacle of Ronaldinho's career in Catalonia was most likely the 20506 season during that season he was at his absolute best he became the face of football and almost everyone knew his name he was considered the central figure of the new style of playing football known worldwide as jogab Bonito his incredible technique and dribbling were Ronaldinho scored two amazing goals securing a 3-1 victory for Barca he received standing ovations even from Real Madrid fans he seemed Unstoppable at the time however the greatest accomplishment for that Barcelona side was Yet to Come throughout their existence Barcelona had won the UEFA cup only once the club faced a significant challenge at the state def France going up against Arsenal and their all time greatest player tier enri who was at the peak of his powers in a highly dramatic fashion Barcelona won 2-1 against the British Giants they had finally achieved their leld ambition conquering all of Europe Ronaldinho was considered the main driving force behind this Victory given that he had twice been elected as the best player in the world and had led Barcelona to the top position of European soccer many people expected Ronaldinho to be a key figure once again in the 2006 World Cup at the time Brazil was ranked as the top team in the FIFA rankings and it was no surprise considering the wealth of talent in their national team with players like Ronaldinho Adriano Ronaldo Kaka and more despite comfortably winning their group stage matches the Brazilian team fell far short of expectations when they were dominated by the veteran Zinedine zadan in the quarterfinals this unexpected turn of events led to a division among the fans and media some blame the lack of Chemistry Between Ronaldo and Ronaldinho While others questioned Brazilian team coach Carlos Alberto Pereira for Ronaldo's poor performances despite these setbacks Ronaldinho had another opportunity to prove himself in 2008 when he was chosen as the oldest player to lead the Brazilian team at the Olympic Games in China despite a strong start in the group stage and a quarterfinal victory over Cameroon Brazil Was Defeated 3 by Argentina in the semifinals postponing their Olympic dream following a phenomenal 2006 season expectations were high for Ronaldinho in the 2006 2007 season on November 25th 2006 Ronaldinho scored his 50th career League goal against Villa roale he scored a second goal with a spectacular overhead bicycle kick he achieved this by receiving a cross in his right leg prematurely ended his season on April 3rd Ronaldinho's partying lifestyle and lack of dedication to training had taken a tll on his physical condition on May 19th 2008 Barcelona Club president Jean laa stated that Ronaldinho needed a new challenge and suggested that he needed a new club to revive his career after it became clear that Ronaldinho would leave Barcelona Manchester
