hey Cameron here with C Butters Tech taking a look at the Rog flow z13 2023 now the z13 was one of the coolest devices of last year tiny form factor almost surface pro-ish that uh Pat's a lot more punch now this new 2023 version packs even more punch has up to a 40 60 potentially a 40 70 but the documentation is unclear um so there's anyways there there have been confirmed 4070s of this version we're looking at the 4050 here but even the 4050 should fare better than the 3050 TI of the 2022 version so let's go ahead and get this thing open and take a look so say what you want about the actual design of asus's Rog line but the fact is uh it is definitely interesting over here this is a 130 watt USBC power adapter unlike the previous model which was only 100 Watts so we've got 30 more watts of power delivery to the device but check this out that's what I'm talking about so definitely looks really cool it's a really similar packaging the last time again just really nice touches this is just such a nice package this is very soft touch very Alcantara but um I think it was pretty much like this last time but this this feels softer than even before looking on the rear uh the thing that they improved this year that I was not too keen on last year was this right here this window was raised last year and it made setting it down on its back it just kind of wobbled and this is now flush so that's a great Improvement on their part uh go over the spec sheet here 165 ultra high refresh rate 500 nits brightness 100 dcpa DC ip3 Nvidia Advanced Optus like last year I mentioned that this is pretty gamery especially if you have the RGB loaded up and turned on but if you turn it off you know remove the stickers this is not I mean this because this is business passable I think if you took these stickers off so far I am liking uh 2023 a lot better than the 2022 version the other thing I was not pleased with last time was the hinge let's see if they've done any better on this so last time it kind of slammed shut at the end yeah it's not too bad but look at this they did add something that mitigates this a little bit if you see these rubber pads these weren't here last year and that makes it so when it shuts at least they weren't there in this location but when this shuts it's it's not as it's not quite as bad as last year's I would say in terms of range of motion looks very similar just like the Surface Pro um has this rubberized Edge which I don't know if I remember that from last year or not it probably was there but um it's it's refined they have refined this device for sure and uh have the handle here you also have the M2 slot accessible right here so you can open that up to replace your M2 and unlike the Surface Pro you actually get a Micro SD slot in the back here you used to on the Surface Pro but not the latest version so that is really cool both the M2 and the micro SSD for expandability it definitely has a one up on the surface for that and man uh these edges here are a little bit rounder just slightly I wouldn't say they're round but they're beveled and it actually feels pretty nice okay so let's look around the other sides of the device we have Republic of Gamers tag on the top here extra vents I don't know if those events were there last time or not doesn't seem like they were they used to have an orange tab on the side it's now kind of a dark shiny purple logo which definitely looks much better um looking on the side we have the XG mobile Port right here see if I can get in there there should be a usable there's a usable USBC Port there along with another USBC Port right there Thunderbolt on the other side headphone jack surface doesn't give you that anymore volume control USB a surf doesn't give you that either power button right here so definitely a nice little device okay so this is one of the first things I really wanted to test and that is the new nebula display on the 2020 13 z13 this is the 2022 x13 but it had the same panel as the last year z13 as well but I just want to hopefully this is coming across but I'm on the blurbusters page we have from 120 frames per second but there was a major ghosting at that 120 frames per second look at this nebula display at 165 Hertz it is beautiful this is really really good very minor ghosting this panel is so much better that was one of my biggest problems with last year's z13 and x13 and this thing looks great I'm very happy with the way that this display looks very little ghosting and I hope that is coming across confident that's coming across in the video so again uh the z13 panel and I'm hopefully the x13 all the 2023 nebula panels should look very good this 165 Hertz display is pretty decent so I'm super excited all right so let's talk about the performance of the 2023 z13 and we're going to break that up into two parts one just what are the performance figures that I'm seeing in different applications but also what is the performance how does it scale when you're in battery mode third-party USBC the real charger in different Power modes because all of those things can affect your performance so let's go ahead and look at the performance figures because I'm going to tell you this thing is a beast I I was I really wanted to get the 4070 version of this in because this is just the 40 50 but I was blown away by the performance on this thing and let's let's look at those performance figures so um here we are I'm just going to be comparing this to last year's 2022 z13 and see how far we've come because I I just got to say one more thing so you know when the 47 reviews first started coming out and and everyone's comparing the 40 70 to the 30 70 and everyone's like ah this is so boring we're not even going to cover it because we don't there's they're exactly the same chip so yes great on your fancy high-end gaming laptops yeah not too big a performance between 4000 series and 3 000 series but at the low end at the low end when you're using thin and light devices that have gpus in them and this is there's just this classic products that have like 35 to 50 watt gpus 4000 series is so efficient that what we're seeing is uh that power efficiency is going to translate into huge gains huge gains and I guess I better just show you the figures because it's it's actually pretty cool so here we go last year's 2022 z13 in Tomb Raider in performance mode had 72 average frames per second we just got a 61 bump with the 2023 version so that's pretty crazy and so the max went from 123 to 180 46 gain men's even look at those mins those are great 77 Improvement in minimum frame rates in turbo mode the z13 of last year in turbo mode actually had a little bit less graphical power because it boosted the CPU so much at the detriment to the GPU this one doesn't have nearly those issues so uh yeah an 89 boost in performance 129 uh frames per second Max 207 Min 112. that's a 111 improvement over last year time spy 8109 versus 4561 that's a 77.79 Improvement uh some of that was because the time spy in the 2022 I did in performance mode which doesn't let the CPU boost as high but I did that to get the maximum GPU score so there were some trade-offs but in this year's times why wow 77 Improvement the CPU 12578 but really look at this GPU 80 almost 80 percent jump in performance okay so we went from 42 68 to 76.31 crazies crazy stuff Final Fantasy 15 in performance and Turbo Modes 9094 versus and in turbo mode ten thousand five two two that's a 66 gain in frame rate from last year and sorry I'm just so upset about this so the 10522 score you're thinking well what is how does that translate to maybe something well if I look at my Benchmark database that I have for all the devices that I've that I've had a 10-522 if we look at it this is this is performing this Tablet Surface size tablet is performing at the same rate as the zephyrus g15 from 2021 which had a 3070 Mobile in it and a 5900 HS this Nvidia told us this was true that the 4050 was going to perform at the level of a 30 70 um at these lower wattage points um which is what we're seeing it's really really neat stuff like I'm I'm actually super excited about this I think it's I think it's great okay so now let's move to the next part performance modes and scaling so um different Power modes give you different tgp on your graphics card so when you're running no USB connected uh just on battery you get a 25 watt tgp on the GPU okay uh when you put it in performance mode on a USBC uh that's a third-party USBC not the Asus USBC you get a 35 watt on the GPU um so I will confirm that you can pull 100 Watts if you have 100 watt third party adapter you can use it what I find is it's only going to let you use a 35 watt tgp which translates from the wall 75 to 80 Watts when the battery is charged so it's not going to let you pull 100 Watts out of it unless you're charging the battery if your battery is full it's only going to pull 75 to 80 watts into the to into it but that's much better than last year's last year's only let you pull 65 Watts from the USBC so this is a proven step in the right direction so performance mode when you are plugged in with the Asus USBC adapter gives you 40 to 45 Watts on the GPU and it pulls about 88 Watts from the wall and on the turbo mode that's where you get your maximum performance last year turbo just gave you CPU power but this year turbo mode gives you extra GPU power to the tune of about 20 watts actually so um from the wall that's pulling 110 and you may be saying hey it's 130 watt AC adapter what is your number only say 110. I only run my performance figures when my battery is completely charged and the reason I do that is so that a the battery isn't charging and heating up the device or taking power from the GPU or whatever it's just not a good way to do things so when you're if you were playing a game and charging your battery that 20 watt overhead would go towards your battery so it should be able to keep your battery topped off and keep you gaming at full speed with that 130 watt adapter so that's good news so yeah um how does that scale let's look at the performance here so on battery 6724 in Final Fantasy 15. you plug in the third party USBC 100 watt that's going to get you an 8412 that's a 25 Improvement you use the AC adapter from Asus and plug it in in performance mode that's going to give you another eight percent to nine thousand ninety four drop it into turbo mode on that AC adapter and you're going to get 10 522 which is a 15.7 percent Improvement now I want to I want to tell you how big the gains are let me put it to you in this in these terms the 2022 z13 last year z13 in turbo mode as fast as it could go is slower than this thing using 25 watts on the GPU let that let that sink in last year's model as fast as it could possibly go is slower than this thing when it's not even plugged in crazy right absolutely crazy so yeah uh that's the performance scaling on the wall it's on the uh on the C13 um so you can see I also included GPU and CPU temps and there they look super great I mean the CPU doesn't get hot must be the liquid metal I'm sure it can when you're running uh more CPU intensive tasks or something like that but in gaming this thing is very quiet I will say that uh the silent mode that I've used so far I need a little more time with the device but I am having a few issues popping it in and out of eco mode I'm not sure if that's the Nvidia Advanced Optimus because when I click the button to change to Ultimate mode it still wants to reboot I'm not sure what's going on I'm I'm not familiar with Nvidia Advanced Optimus or whether the drivers are even working for it yet but right now it seems to not be working but I would say that there's a little bit more work that needs to be done in Armory crate but wow the z13 2023 super awesome uh even the 4050 is beast mode like it it really is for something this size the 4050 is performing at 30 70 class notebook graphics performance and this device is definitely a winner LA on the 2022 I saw the CPU throttling pretty heavily still see some of that but it's so much more efficient or has more thermal overhead that it's not translating into stuttering and gaming everything is working incredibly well and I'm very happy with the figures I'm seeing from this device if you are considering a z13 I think the 70 to 80 percent performance buff with just the 4050 version is worth hey don't even if you can find a z13 the last year for Less I'd highly recommend looking for this current Year's version because it is much faster so anyways I hope you enjoyed this video hopefully answered questions about charging about the screen about performance about the performance modes uh if you enjoy this content I'll be comparing it to the Future x13 2023 which should have some of the same performance improvements in terms of GPU so be sure to subscribe hit that Bell and uh get more cool content from see Butter's Channel talk to you soon
