On April Fool's Day this year ROG posted a video on the Internet about them making a Windows console Something about the timing made me doubt its credibility I discussed it with my friends for a long time After all, on April first every year such joking videos are not in the few However Look what I just received ROG's first console Well, without further ado Let's unbox it! To be honest This box is much smaller than expected. This is the ROG console. Holding it on hands It wasn't as heavy as I thought and on the back It has a giant ROG logo and two paddles and something interesting I'll show you that at the end Power on Wow ~ That's so ROG, isn't it? The buttons are as big as these of PS5 I think I've never seen such a big button on a console In comparison, the D-pad looks much smaller But now people tend to not use D-pad anymore So Most consoles have asymmetrical layout and place the most used joy stick at the most convenient position so what kind of layout are you more used to? The most incredible about it is its performance Because previous consoles were weak in performance so they all had 720P displays 'cause they can't handle higher resolution anyway whereas ROG used a new chip on it AMD customized Zen4's CPU plus the GPU of RDNA 3 It's safe to say this is the best performer in this category Thus the display was updated to 1080P 120Hz You know what This is the first time I've seen 120Hz display on a console We've gotta pick a game to play Win consoles had problems going mainstream before The most important issue lies in the difficulty in learning it Without practicing it for a while You don't know how to play games But after the release of Steam Deck Its new Steam OS outcompeted Win consoles in all fronts Although Steam Deck was not a Perfect solution as the Linux-based Steam OS still got problems about Compatibility But Steam Deck left a vital legacy the brand new big picture mode and console interaction logic Has any of you used the mode in its earlier days That was... hell of an experience However, if it's just Windows system with no optimizations that'd be worse Without keyboard and mouse From initialization to opening from accelerating to game loading nothing goes smoothly That's why I've been looking forward to a big brand to solve these compatible issues For the ROG console It combines the best of both and avoids their drawbacks How did it fix it? Enter the console for the first time Pressing any key goes into the library where there will be some basic guidance Don't look down on these guidance They are really important say if I download a game from Steam It will be in the library automatically I only have to use handles Hold the menu button to see how to use all function keys And it's not a picture If you change any key It will also show the change Before starting the game You can use a default template on which We can customize the function of each key Or even set operating mode for each game But you can save all these troubles and go in with the default When typing in your name you can press the previous shortcut to use the Windows Keyboard You should know that To type Chinese in Steam Deck you'll have to check the tutorial. Entering the game We can press this button to open function menu For example, if I really wanna play Switch nothing but how Switch feels like we can change the 120Hz to 60Hz and set the resolution to 720P and lower all operating powers yet, still Miku still runs at 60 fps you can't really simulate that If you quit the game Then you will find You are in the brand new Steam Big Picture Mode This mode is made for Steam Deck optimizations are invincible If the game library recognizes that it's a Steam game it automatically switches to this mode In that sense You have Steam Deck's best user-experience coupled with Win's compatibility Another instance EPIC gave me many free games yet the interface is not console-oriented nothing to do with the console at all ROG also has a solution for you After you set it up for the first time Then it'll be in the library in the future Some of the games that you installed may be as big as 10G with several hundred G of MOD Steam can't handle it at all You can also add it here It even recognizes Xbox The ROG console comes with Three system modes X-mode, default dynamic mode, and ultra-durable mode to apply different modes to corresponding games This will make it easier for you to keep the balance between performance and battery life After all, playing Miku doesn't need the ultra mode, right? During my use When unplugged in ultra-durable mode God of War it can be running at 65 fps in 1080P minimum image quality In comparison in Steam Deck with Stead Deck at 800P fps is about 45 What's more with a keyboard and a mouse you can use it to play LOL I did not see this coming to play LOL in a console one day However There's more It can even connect to an extra graphics card Have you watched videos like connecting external GPU to consoles? But these were hard to learn Regular player can't pull it off and it's mostly just for fun because it really undermines performance I've tried it before attempting to connect Steam Deck to the 6900XT However, the Elden Ring ran less than 40 fps at 1080P and even broke my console So ROG gives its solution It's super easy Still remember the weird-looking ports I mentioned before? Through this port This console can connect to Asus's GPU dock In order to use the best so I went for the 4090 edition But the only pity was is it's only for mobile products Just power it up and plug it into the console Then flip the switch Now! The performance of this console is against the advertising law Once plugged in It can also power the console no need of the power cable Like this God of War can run about 110 fps in 1080P highest quality But it's better to use a monitor for such high quality image right? I happen to have ROG's 2K display Once connected fps was even raised to 140 What if I connect it to a simulator Wow, it's so fast Recently, my gaming schedule is planned to minutes I bought a new hard drive last week I never had the time to install it into the computer Gaming time is especially precious for me Maybe it's before going to bed traveling by bus or plane or even family dinners that I had to go I just can't put up with Switch's 30 fps You know I even dreamt about playing Zelda at 4K60 My mom used to tell me when I was a kid. You'll grow out of these games one day When you're busy with work you won't like it anymore but on the contrary, I think I cherish playing games more and more especially with friends after a busy day It's really relaxing You see Playing Overcooked or It Takes Two or even small games in Drum 'n' Fun with friends What was the last time you play games offline with your friends? Sitting site by site with friends and randomly playing a game There's a sense of happiness to it It's like going back to childhood If you can be like me That'd be very cool! On the whole ROG console is the one I'd like to carry on the go It has enough performance nice system optimization to some extent It has shattered my stereotype for Win consoles A lot of people think These optimizations mentioned earlier are meant to be done by manufacturers It's really not Each new console has its own challenges So I'm really glad. A big brand can set a benchmark for hardware and software of consoles Hopefully in the near future Consoles may become Small enough to fit in a pocket with good enough optimization and battery life That's basically my ideal console It seems like that future is just around the corner OK So that's all for this video If this show is interesting to you Remember to give me a like and subscribe ~ This is very important to me I'm Cherry I'll see you next time. Bye!
