And you can see the water line above all the outlets. So this is all just emptied an inside look into the damage, major flooding can cause it's something many Iowans are experiencing right now. As much of the northwest part of the state is underwater. A local five is in the studio tonight to share what some of these families are going through right now. Dana, I imagine there are a lot of questions around, you know, navigating those next steps. Absolutely. Stephanie and many of those families right in the middle of the flooding lost nearly everything and some of them don't have flood insurance. So they have been working to save as much as they can while still trying to cope with the reality. The ground sits soggy and muddy after homes in Rock Valley Iowa submerged two stories underwater. Halfway up the stairs is where the water went, the flooding leaving its impact on Northwest Iowa as residents work to pick up the pieces. I keep picturing when I'm trying to think back is, you know, my kids' toys, uh shoes stuff just floating in our living room in our kitchen, families were left navigating a strong current that was chest deep. By the time they got downstairs, the basement was already full. So it filled up in 15 minutes. Um And then by the time they left the house, it was 3 ft on the main floor. Homes are unsalvageable after everything was soaked and thrown away basements still sit full of water, damaging irreplaceable items. It's just a lot when you just like all of my scrapbooks were in the basement and his son passed away a couple of years ago and we lost most of his memorabilia, um things that we had from him. Uh So it's just, it's just a lot. Um And now the question remains, what comes next. So I don't think my mind is fully wrapped around at all with the flood being as extensive as it is many homes impacted weren't in the floodplains and covered by insurance. So everybody that is losing their homes and didn't have flood insurance, which is the majority are homeless. And um it's just a really big shock for the community. Local churches in Rock Valley have opened up portable showers, they're cooking meals and have shelters, open. Volunteers are also helping pick up items, flooded homes need thrown away truly an all hands on deck effort. Stephanie.
