so to be clear about this diminished v chord to the one chord there may be a little bit of confusion because if we're in the key of g and we want to go to our iv chord i play g diminished to get to the four chord the the language can get a little bit confusing because you know we're we're we're saying that we're in the key of g like we're playing a g blues so the g diminished scale [Music] is an altered five chord it's not an altered one chord so right there you have some confusion right um any seventh chord is a five chord because it wants to go home to its central headquarters if you play a g7 you're playing a c major scale [Music] g because seven is going to go to c major [Music] so [Music] g diminished [Music] wants to go to c and that's why it works in the blues because it's an altered v chord it it becomes the uh altered and is is um it's it's the way that they alter it's the way that the five chord is supposed to work so you use that chord you use that altered scale to take you home to the key that you're actually in when we play the altered five chord here at the end of a blues d wants to go to g [Music] right [Music] g wants to go to c [Music] any seventh chord is a five chord we talk about it as the one as if we're in the key of g but if you play the scale i used to call it the g7 scale because i didn't know what else to call it [Music] because i didn't know it was c major [Music] again you have to hear these things you have to hear it you have to be listening and go oh yeah that's c major [Music] we're just starting on the fifth degree [Music] sounds like g right [Applause] which has a flattened seventh [Music] it's a c major chord you play a seventh chord [Music] you're playing you're playing the c major scale with the fifth in the root altered [Music] takes you the four chord of a blues altered five chord in the key of g [Music] will take you to g so i hope that's clear i think that's the best i can do on that subject i understand that it can be confusing but it's just a language barrier you know listen to it get it with your ear you know that's really what you need to do and i also always recommend the piano you know sit down at the piano the white keys of the piano are the key of c it's a beautiful thing put a g in the root and play as g7 chord c major scale you can see it it's right there oh yeah okay you know and in fact that's the modes you you basically it's called the mixolydian mode and that would really be the proper language to refer to it it's modal that's what the modes are but it's still just c major with a g in the root okay you know simple it's not complex
