Road to HANA | Maui's Most Infamous Drive

what if i told you you're the island far out in the pacific ocean and their beach is made of black sand adventure awaits around every corner where there's forest made of a million bamboos and waterfalls that look like they go on forever or sharks are so close you can almost touch them [Music] where you can climb a volcano to the top of the world [Music] this in maui time to get the show on the road hold on to yahaku hakuley's as on the top of the list of things to do on maui has got to be none other than the infamous road to hana let's go [Music] mentioning the road to hana to fellow tourists staying at the many luxurious hawaiian resorts you know the kind the ones you'd never want to leave is usually answered with a mix of respect and a look of why would you do that but to us it's this road that summarizes the best of maui a sense of adventure exploration and some of the most beautiful jungle waterfalls and beaches the island has to offer what is it like driving the road to hana a little nerve-wracking but we're on the inside of the road right now so even when the road gets narrow we're all good people on the outside along the road there are these amazingly colorful trees which are commonly known as rainbow eucalyptus photo up [Music] if you're not currently stuck at one of the 59 bridges of which the vast majority are one lane or taking a dip in one of the many waterfalls along the way you might want to climb into a hole in the ground yeah you heard that right are you ready for this i think yes okay one where are we going we're going to get down to the cave it's a lava oh tube um yeah here you go hold hands which way should we go okay we have a flashlight to light up where we're stepping these lava tubes are formed during volcanic eruptions as a natural conduit created by flowing lava we're in a cave a cave we're in a lava tube and a cave you keep telling yourself that not gonna lie i do get a bit of an eerie feeling when thinking about how this space was once filled with a 10 foot tall river of red hot lava [Music] that was cool did you just go in the lava tube yeah the side of the road just like that all right liv is such a trooper quick pit stop i'm not even sure what that means what is that it's a pineapple i'm almost certain that's not a pineapple how strong are you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] it's just as private as i imagined it to be [Applause] okay it's busy but it's busy for a reason this place is something else with its black sand beach nestled between the lush coastline a fun short hike and an epic viewpoint overlooking the whole setting [Music] i think there's an awesome viewpoint of the black sand beach what is lift doing putting her shoes on the right feet [Music] in case you're wondering we're a german american family and i speak german with the wee ones you know to just throw another language into the mix because it's not like you're already struggling to communicate with a two and a half year old [Music] creating this video in times of the covet 19 pandemic of 2020 sitting at home in the colorado mountains reminiscing over the freedom we used to take for granted makes us all too real once this is over i know we are going to use this as fuel to continue showing our kids this incredible planet to venture further and farther [Music] [Music] people crave to watch me fall everything is [Music] [Applause] [Music] when you take your life [Music] the cattle gate mama all right nicely done all right some of the stops along the road to hana require some climbing the ocean crawling hiking swimming you get the jizz but that's off the front okay [Music] what's papa gonna do how do you get the straw inside the coconut is it working no what do we have to do we need to cut it oh [Music] these little roadside stands are to me the epitome of hawaii first of all no one's manning that probably gone surfing there is an abundance of tropical fruits at each of them and you can supply that stump and a machete and the most amazing part is that you pay for it based on the honor system i know right are we still in the us this means there's usually some sort of menu or writing to be found with the prices on it and a little box to put the money [Music] into people yes [Music] this place is really special walking among these giant bamboo grasses makes one feel small but also somehow really connected it's like walking through a dream no matter where we go on this planet i'm always in awe by what nature has to offer i mean just look at this place [Music] do you see that amazing [Music] i love this can you climb up the bamboo this one [Music] oh such a good climber i can't climb and get my getting bigger i love her so much [Music] wow that was a long day on the road to hana time for some much-needed r r on the beach back in kihei [Music] how do you swim what do you do with your arms and your legs um i do like this moana my favorite place it is right here not thinking about what brings me down my favorite way to be without fear after all that adventuring it's time to kick it back for a change kihei is perfect for that since it has some great family friendly [Music] the beaches [Music] [Music] my soul will tell me what i need to know where to go the aquarium at the maui ocean center is the largest tropical reef aquarium in the western hemisphere but that doesn't mean much until you stand in front of it [Music] i was craving for i try to change the way i see the world around me [Music] in the same way i always do my part i try to make it stay it's the same play but with a change [Music] [Music] will you let me [Music] to make this endorsement [Music] give me all the space i want so much i get lost last but not least it's time to rise above the clouds and visit the house of the sun haleakala this volcano is like an iceberg it's 10 023 feet in height are being dwarfed by what lies beneath the ocean surface it continues for another 19 680 feet to the sea floor when taking in consideration from its base rather than sea level it stands taller than even the highest mountain on earth mount everest itself if you get the chance watch the sunrise over the massive 7 mile crater [Music] i love you [Music] besides being a holy ground for the hawaiian natives and a popular tourist destination the peak is also home to the haleakala observatory due to its geographic location the nearest continental land is the alaskan peninsula which is almost 2 000 miles away let's just say you have never seen a night sky like this before [Music] [Music]
