welcome to a new video let's take a look at some new malicious compliance stories the first story is called fake data for the client so about 20 years ago I worked in a customer feedback company they did mystery shops and gave out customer surveys when trying out new products for clients one such survey was a countrywide burger joint that changed the way they cooked their fries I wrote the software for this survey but I had made a mistake in one of the questions the questions was would you buy this product argument and unfortunately due to my mistake always was true I noticed the mistake as I was making the reports for the data I went to the boss and told her what happened she said just fake the data but make sure that it is still overwhelmingly true overall I said that I wasn't going to fake the data I told her to just tell the client that one question was an error and we don't have usable data for it but the rest of the survey was good I even told her to tell the client it was my fault as it was after all and we would be good she said to come with her and made me sit in her truck as she pulled out a stinky cigarette you just got married and bought a new house it would be a real shame if something happened and you lost everything so as I said go and fake the data so at this point in my career I was not really terrified of this threat but I did what I was told I faked the data the rating scale was from 1 to 5 every good rating 4 or 5 was changed to would never buy the product again anyone or to dislike the product was given up willing to buy the product again the rest was just randomly applied to any of the groups they took the data made their graphs and send it to the client they were furious none of the data made sense the boss was furious as well I said I just did what you told me she got even angrier and said that I should fix it so I did and made up even more data that didn't make any sense they submitted it back to the company and lo and behold they were even more furious they ended up losing the client the client continued making the new French fries that everyone hated the average rating out of five was less than one and a half I found another job and quit after they told every co-worker to not talk to me or they will get fired the next story is called I made a rude customer pay extra I work at a craft store won the charges all double for every item this is why we always give out coupons so I finished ringing up a customer and called the next customer a rude lady her entire attitude is condescending and she's just blatantly rude so I'm ringing up items and I see that she has scrapbooking paper which I have to scan individually because of store rules I inform her of this like I do most customers and apologize for the weight but I have to follow store policy her response why are you scanning them individually just scan one and enter the number of how many I have I inform her that our computers can't do that she then Huff's air crosses her arms and is tapping her fingers on the table not two seconds later she goes off again I don't understand why you can't enter the number again I apologize for the inconvenience but our computers can't handle it so getting close to the malicious compliance our markers are kept at the registers to prevent shoplifting the rude lady sees the markers and shouts I need markers too I asked her which ones because there are different sets she goes I just want some markers and again I asked her which ones as I gesture at the selection she then goes are you stupid just give me some markers find just some markers so I glanced at them and I pick up the set I know is the most expensive it's 33 dollars without a coupon I checked other non craft stores and they sell them for about fourteen I scan it and tell her the total for her purchase she pays and then leaves but that's not the end of it about a week or two later I see her at the registers again thankfully she goes to the register next to me my coworker greeted her hi how are you doing today I want to return these markers they are overpriced sure do you have a receipt she Huff's air and then slams the markers in the receipt on the counter my coworker is making sure everything was still there but here comes the problem the rude lady is missing two pieces of the marker set sorry to inform you but we can't take this it's missing two pieces but I want to return them sorry there's nothing I can do about it the lady demands to speak to a manager and my coworker calls for a manager my manager tells the rude lady the exact same thing and after a bit of going back and forthwith arguing she just leaves with her overpriced markers again I apologized to my coworker for having to go through that because I was the one who sold her the overpriced markers but she said it was fine after I told her why I did it the third story is called you are not getting the discount I work at a restaurant that is a part of a country club the members pay $45,000 initial fee and 500 per months for their membership attached to the club is a nice resort with approximately 600 rooms people will charge their bills either to their 4-digit member account or to their 3-digit room number members get a 20% discount resort guests don't get a discount Karen lives at the resort permanently always charges her bill to her room but demands a member discount saying she is a member our manager said to give her a discount just so she would leave him alone when Karen comes to eat at our restaurant there is always a problem either there is a hair in her food that turns out to be a thread from a lemongrass dressing or her wine is too warm her salmon is undercooked or her salad had wilted from a hot chicken Karen always wants free things and she used to always get it up until I became in charge this one life I was serving her busy night all of us are running around like crazy Karen shows up with a friend as always Karen makes comments as she knows better than us she demands a Cabernet from Argentina I tell her we only have Malbec from Argentina she laughs at me and asks for a menu to prove me wrong I bring the menu she reads it and says I meant Malbec okay lady cool story then her friend wants a salad from a dinner menu as her side salad to the main course I say that a side salad is just a garden salad if you want to upgrade to one of our specialty salads it's an upgrade and I'll have to charge for it separately Karen starts arguing and I tell her I'll just add another two dollars for an upgrade instead of charging her a whole 12 for that salad despite being so busy I made sure to come back to them more often because I know what a particular guest Cheers in the end she says what a great service I have provided and tips me 10% instead of 20% I get from virtually everyone else despite the fact I didn't charge her another $10 and that I gave her a 20% member discount before she asked for it and she also said she liked the service that's when I said no more I'm actually a bartender and therefore I'm in charge when the manager is not there now that he quit it's only me and another bartender that he's in charge of the front of the house until we get a new manager every member of the staff is sick and tired of Karen because we all had the pleasure to serve her I told everyone not to give her a discount anymore and refer her to me if she protests sure enough next time she comes in there is something wrong with her salad she wants it off the bill we refuse her wine is again too warm even though it came straight from the cooler and into a chilled glass then she wants her member discount and writes down her room number the server asks her for her member number but she won't give it to him and says she is a member and that's when I step in I say madam we will be glad to take 20% off your bill if you can provide your four-digit number for your member account so we can tie to something she goes my boyfriend has an account and I don't know the number and he is not answering my texts I say not a problem I can look him up by his name she mumbles a name that I can't hear I asked her to write it down and she scribbles something on a coaster I say madam I can't read this name and if I can't find it I can't give you a discount so she gives me a made-up name okay lady I punch this name into a system multiple different ways and there is no such person I know all members buy names and I don't know this guy I go back and tell her I couldn't find him and if she gets his account number from him I'll try that she scuffs and says that she will pay the bill in full this time leaving her server a zero tip now I know it's petty of me to seek revenge over a 10 percent tip because she did tip me and I should be grateful for anything but it angers me that she demanded a member discount every time members paid over 45 thousand dollars to get the discount but she wants it for free at the end of the day she wasn't supposed to get a discount at all plus she was always mean to her service and always wanted freebies which is the type of customer we disliked the most in a restaurant business the restaurant actually lost money by having her so she didn't do us any favors by coming in we all hope she is never coming back all I did was follow the rules the last story is called you will never get a penny from us five years ago I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle the drive turn across the front of me pretty much into me and I had absolutely nowhere to go I hit the passenger door of the car then tumbled over the front of the car still clipped into my pills taking it with me the car was pretty damaged I dented the door scratched the paint in many places ripped the door mirror off smashed the glass cracked the windscreen and dented hood my bicycle emerged fairly well the front wheel was bent the saddle tore and the pedals damaged from hitting the road I broke my collarbone and lost a lot of skin in various places that hit the road I trashed my helmet and my shorts too the driver said Sorry mate I did not see you which was pretty obvious the car was his daughters and he was taking his grandson out for ice-cream the poor little boy got covered in glass from the door window that exploded inwards when I hit it but seemed to be okay the driver gave me his phone number and I took a photo of his driving license and insurance details along with a pile of photos at the scene I crucially got the details of two witnesses to before I passed out from the pain this all happened on a Friday I got patched up at the hospital and my partner was able to get my bike home because of my broken collarbone I was in a huge amount of pain while the doctors could figure out if it needed to be pinned or not over the weekend on a Saturday morning I called the driver and his phone went straight to voicemail I had taken a good look at my bike and figured out it needed about 350 pounds worth of parts and something for my cracked phone screen on the message I left him I said that I was not sure if he wanted to pay for the parts or go through his insurance his daughter called me back and shouted and swore at me for damaging her car I explained that he has turned across the front of me and it was his poor driving to blame I mentioned that I was sitting on my sofa with a broken collarbone as a result of him and all I wanted was to get my bike fixed you will never get a penny from me talk to the police if you want to we will tell them that it was not my car you will never get a penny from us okay I can comply with that I called the local police station and they sent a constable down to see me I carefully explained what had happened and showed him the photos from the scene the damage to my bicycle phone helmet and shorts gave him the details of the witness in several cups of tea and he advised me to get a solicitor on the case too so I did just that my bicycle insurance has a legal aid cover so I used it long story short I had three surgeries on my shoulder over the next 18 months or so the insurance details that the driver gave me was fake the daughter's insurance company did not cover her father as a driver the driver had six points on his license already but crucially the police found he had insurance with the company that did cover him on her car but only for third-party cover he only admitted this when they threatened to charge him with driving without insurance and documentation fraud the police eventually convicted him and gave him enough points to banning him from driving for a year and find him 1500 pounds in the costs the insurance company that he was with was one of these we only cover really bad drivers obviously did not pay out for the damage to the car this was probably another 1,500 or more the insurance company paid for my bicycle damage five hundred and fifty pounds once assessed by a local shop they also paid for my clothing and helmet two hundred pounds and my phone screen then finally the insurance company paid compensation for my injuries and time off I would have been quite happy for them to pay for my initial assessment of my bicycle and phone damage but as they wanted to make my life difficult it cost them thousands got the driver
