hey ruin and welcome to story time my name is jake in today we are gonna be looking at the subreddit our such malicious compliance where people conform to the letter but not the spirit of a request if because I am a strange individual with strange friends and a highly intelligent mom as a kid my parents got me a medium-weight gray jacket with 14 pockets they chose it for me because it was winter I don't like wearing bright colors and love pockets and always find a way to use them when they bought it for me it went down a little past my knees I had that jacket and wore it every school day for about six years or so regardless of the weather until it literally fell apart and my parents never questioned me about it one day we moved and I had to switch to a different high school some of the students didn't like that I am a loner and was wearing a worn-out gray jacket I never bothered anyone ate lunch by myself ignored anything that was said to me positive or otherwise and was content to leave people alone but someone told their parents that they were scared I was going to do something this wasn't long after that Columbine school thing and back in the day many schools had the DARE program dare was is the drug abuse resistance education program that many US schools had or have one day the DARE officer meets me at the bus drop-off point insist that I can't wear that jacket since it's scaring other kids and he needs to look through my backpack and lacA the locker they had access to anyways but in order to check me and my bag for anything they had to wait for my parents to show up Locker checked out good and when my irate mom showed up and let them check me to prove a point they didn't know what to say but told her that I couldn't wear that jacket to the school not because it was old and showed it smiles but because it's scared of the kids that night it poured massive amounts of rain and the temperature dropped I didn't have a jacket that I could wear to school anymore so I was thinking I just stay home that is until my mom asked if I had a friend's phone number a friend of mine who was home-schooled had a hobby of making chainmail armor with heavy leather padding under it to keep it from chafing his parents let him do it and he sold it at Renaissance Fairs or at a local flea market and used the money to fund his gaming habit he was about my size and it kept a set for himself that he tinker with if he found out about a different method of doing it always trying something new out she decided to drop me off that day by way of my friend's house and then went to a local gas station to wait for the fallout my homeroom teacher loved it but she was also a history teacher that loved her job the other students didn't have a clue what to do I was fairly comfortable an entirely warm and dry Annette my first class had just started when the door comes flying open with the DARE officer trying to make it sneak in after they'd opened it I never understood why people do that the door latching hinges made a noise as you open them and there was a strange vacant sound difference combined with the teacher stopping mid lecture to draw attention to you sneaking in the class was fairly full about 30 students but it only took a few moments to single me out back to the front office we go where my mum is waiting with my old jacket the principal's mouth drops open as I stroll through the door armor clinking and jingling at every step from here P principal M my mum me and you probably understand that one what do you think you're wearing he's wearing a coat what that's not a coat me being a smart person I am it is a coat of arms intended to provide a squire with some protection during battle to aid his assigned Knight it was also worn by various others throughout history I like the armor and weaponry from that period and its history you can't wear that it's scaring the other kids and violates the school dress code actually no it doesn't violate anything and if someone else's brat is scared that my kid is just wearing the armor then why aren't the goth kids I've seen walk past in their massive black trench coat being harassed what about that other kid that was just in here with the massive backpack they could more easily hide something that the kids should be scared of that instead of my son has anyone said that he said anything dangerous or threatening no but we've had student and parents complaints about your son already what are they complaining about they are scared of your son because he doesn't talk to anyone hangs out by himself was wearing that huge jacket we have to do something everyone is scared after the Columbine thing you have got to be kidding me you're singling out my son a new student because he doesn't know anyone and hasn't made friends yet I'll skip much of the conversation from there but mostly because I dozed off and this is getting long after a while my mum woke me up saying the principal had decided to suspend me over the coal my mum is not a person to mess with and went to the next school board meeting with me in tow she explained the whole situation as she understood it had me stand up to show how threatening I was while wearing the grey coat and then the chainmail I was and still am a tall skinny guy with glasses and my nose always in a book the principal ended up getting a lecture and written up for failure to do stop harassment of a student and being complicit in harassing a student or some equal legal jargon we were told that I could wear the old jacket again I'm just imagining this tall like skinny dude with huge massive chainmail armor just clinking around at everyone being like what is happening my manager broke my headphones told me to sue him so I did I worked at a fast-food restaurant and at the time this happened I had been working here for a year and a half a bit of context I was 17 at the time and I have anxiety it can vary in severity on a daily basis but sometimes I have really bad sensory overload so I bought myself a pair of noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones that can block out all noise they cost me 220 pounds they were a major investment for me as I was only a part-timer and made about 160 to 300 pounds a month depending on how shifts I worked one day was particularly busy so I didn't get my break until five and a half hours into my 8-hour shift technically illegal as because I was 17 UK child labor laws applied but I didn't say anything as either giving us our breaks way to lay or way too early and having too much time afterwards was a common occurrence here anyway on this one day I was on my break I had just gotten my food and sat down in the staff room with my headphones on I had no music on but the quality of noise-canceling was that good I couldn't hear anything I'm sitting there eating with my back to the door and my manager walks in demanding me back on shift as soon as possible I don't hear this but also remember I was like five minutes into my 45-minute break he must have thought I was purposely ignoring him because he came up to my side and started screaming so loud I could hear his voice through the earphones it wasn't that loud but I could hear him I go to take off my headphones and he starts shouting louder calling me ignorant good-for-nothing and how he needed me back now no excuses hearing this I was on the verge of tears trying to stop a panic attack from happening I tried to calmly explain I've only just gone on break and I'm still eating if he wants me back after I finished eating I'll come back but not earlier I pointed at the dessert I had purchased from the store as if to say look I've spent my money here I'm eating this before I do anything he storms out and I quickly collect my things and go sit in the front with customers as to avoid any more employees of managers the restaurant was fairly busy but still had a number of free seats and I was technically a paying customer I was allowed on front even though it was busy no problems normally if the restaurant is quiet just don't like it when busy I sit down and finish eating my meal and my dessert I pull my phone out to check if I had any messages instantly I felt someone tug on my shoulder it was my manager again my headphones were on so I had no idea why he said but then he violently snatched my headphones off my head pretty much hitting me in the process and snapped my headphones and told me to get back to work normally I would have just shut down and been unable to process what had happened but my parents had talked a lot to me about my rights because of my mental state I could be a pushover my manager looking proud of himself told me to get back to work I told him to go screw himself and pay me back for my property at this point the whole restaurant about 20 customers are staring at us he said he isn't gonna pay me anything because I'm incompetent and the headphones were a piece of junk anyway I was angry and told him that was illegal he chuckled and when Sumi so in my proudest moment ever I went to my bag and took out my notebook anyone who saw what just happened then I want to take a statement off you I will require some personal details and I require a bit of your time so please stay here if you can if not leave a name in a number and we'll get it later my manager looks shocked at me I stormed into the kitchen and grabbed one of the assistant managers figure of speech didn't actually grab him just clarifying because assault and made him back up the CCTV so he couldn't be deleted then I went around getting people to write what they saw and leave names numbers etc my manager just stood there and starts instantly apologizing I pull out my phone and then call the police and explain what happened they come and arrest him I give them the statements they double-check everything with everyone who left and they got CCTV he was charged with criminal damage and assault he wasn't imprisoned instead given probation but while this is all going on I managed to sue him and the restaurant the restaurant under discrimination as the headphones were coping with my anxiety and also breaking child labor laws the restaurant was fined thousands and had to shut down while they had to pay up four thousand pounds for the discrimination the manager himself ended up having to pay 1,600 pounds including court fees for property damage emotional damage including counselling fees let's just say if you do some thing wrong don't tell the person to sue you because they can and they will I could just imagine the manatee going sue me with like a smug look on his face and then someone go ahead alright I will and then the surprise - Pikachu face just comes into mind hey
