all right and we're live with Riley green here at the pace studio in downtown Atlanta Georgia Riley thanks for being here yeah thanks for bringing a friend Rob also thanks for being here so yeah I guess uh performing regularly together as a duo or is this kind of a one-off special treat or do this as much as I'd like this is kind of how I started out playing was a little acoustic gigs like this Rob's great backup vocals and guitar players so uh maybe we'll get to do a little bit more but usually we're a full band cool cool nice well thanks for giving us this version of this today so that'll give us three pretty cool versions of songs are all three of these songs off your new record no two of them are and one's gonna be a brand new songs okay you know it's always nice try stuff out on folks who like country music very cool very cool well we'll see if it sticks and speaking of that new record congratulations to you a different round here came out the end of last year and you've been working on tour in that and supporting that record sense and this is kind of a part of that so thank you I know you just wrapped the tour get that man a beer which is named after a song from that record then you went on a little hunting trip and now we're here and you're about to do some other cool stuff which we'll talk about more as we keep going but I'd love to hear about what we're gonna hear first and really thank you again both for being here yeah this this first song is like it's a brand new song I wrote it a little while back it's not recorded or anything yet but fans have really seemed to like it we played allow a few times and uh since nobody's ever written a song about a truck I decided I'd try something a little bit different this song's called if it wasn't for trucks [Music] why would any teenage boy cut grass sweet all summer saving cash dream about turning head downtown Street pops on aiming down Pavel it anybody's daddy get around to mend the fences and feed the cows where the hell would a small-town girl climb up if it wasn't the truck [Music] we'll race down the hill and talk to God about my son habit I've got the Tennessee without a bucket see where was I supposed to cry and she loved it crazy dad drag that be really [Applause] if it wasn't for trust we would have furthers Moreau got the nerve to kiss a green-eyed girl where we know God where would lifeline every time you talk to get out by my I've got Tennessee without a puppet see [Music] all right that beer he was [Music] and I wouldn't be Who I am if it wasn't for short pants [Music] we would have raised all that he'll talk to God all by myself that would have got the Tennessee [Music] where is she got a great dear Jane that me really [Music] [Music] thank you right on sounding great you guys feeling good in here oh yeah nice well it really does sound fantastic and thank you guys for sharing this with us today it's a real treat to have you guys make a stop here it's part of the whole experience yeah it's a great way to end the week oh we got another one after this but uh it's pretty cool to have you here right now so I know the the last thing we're gonna hear today I believe is I wish grandpa never died that's the top 20 country radio single pretty cool on that and we'll talk about that a little bit more before that song happens with getting ahead of myself here let's see who are you just wrapped we already talked about you're about to head out with Jason Aldean though that's pretty cool yeah no big deal no big deal yeah you know I never really thought I would be doing what I'm doing in country music and it's been a kind of a whirlwind of accomplishments that I've never really had his goals over the last couple of years but outtie he was one of those that I did kind of sit like when I got a record deal and I saw on the radio and saw that I could go on some major tours it wasn't get a whole lot bigger than Jason Aldean so I'm looking forward to that it's gonna be awesome man yeah and you know I believe you're very deserving that opportunity as well as all the others I mean just one but also you're gonna do another one of these type of sessions that's a little bit bigger in in maybe reach and production you know intensity which is that you can be on the Today Show on Monday so congratulations on that yeah that's a big deal that's a big deal there's that big it was with Jason Aldean no big deal I give well my mom's gonna be telling all the friends about it I'm sure alright so that will be a big deal right nice man well congratulations on on and everything that's happened to know that sort of there was again on that song that was kind of a viral video that somebody you didn't even film this thing or have any knowledge of this somebody shared a video you planned this song and it went nuts you included that on the record you were already on you're on a great track at that point how'd you get here and how does it feel like you said Aldean was kind of a goal what was sort of the build-up to that yeah it was very accidental the success that I had starting out you know I was just playing musics on George I was writing songs because I got tired of playing the same one same covers over and over it shows and uh you know it was really you know due to the fans going out and download my music and and and buying tickets to shows and coming out and you know we were playing a show in Rome Georgia tonight is sold out you know and I've been playing there for years so it's not a new thing but the crowds keep getting bigger and bigger and that's been what it is it's been a really you know somebody riding down the road and letting her buddy listen to my song in their truck you know that's uh that's that's been really cool to watch cuz it's been very gradual but then you know once you get song over radio what happens a lot faster yeah yeah yeah yeah but still in the same way I mean it's like somebody saying hey check this out I believe in this and people taking them for their word and then agreeing and so on and so forth so yeah it keeps it uh you know the wear and tear of going on the road and playing playing shows every night it keeps you motivated and kind of keeps you going when you when you see new new faces and new towns and people singing your song louder every week I knew you're gonna say that that's like a common common quip in here not to not to take away from the the power behind what you just said but speaking of power when people are singing your song back to you there's no feeling like that in the world like and everybody's unanimously agrees that that's the case of like man just was like motivations kind of fleeting but that's what keeps me going you know yeah well is a songwriter it's that's probably the most rewarding thing is to write a song about your own life how you grew up and see people relate to it and especially people all over the country that's a pretty cool feeling yeah man well connections universal so that's got it yeah thank you for providing that for for everybody who feels connected to your music and I'm feeling pretty connected right now man so can't wait to hear what's next what's uh what are we gonna hear for the second song we're gonna do a song I wrote that actually became my first number-one on country radio it's a song I wrote called there was this girl wrote to my buddy Eric Dylan and you know I thought it would be a song people could relate to I don't know any guys that didn't grow up trying to impress the girl and doing something stupid along the way and that was kind of how I did and you know I thought I'd be a pretty relatable song didn't know it would become what it is and it's a excellent first number-one and it's one of those that they sing every week so it's pretty exciting song to get to play nice man can't wait to hear it [Music] never knew my plans truck you trying like that [Music] she don't better than take that curves old-fashioned daddy I was down in the ditch he asked me why I did what I did there was this girl drinking [Music] so there's a fire [Applause] there was a girl [Music] some folks ask me why I still pick this guitar [Music] even an laughs on road won't get you very far maybe she's looking down too see there was this girl [Music] there was a girl [Music] girl [Music] did note I'm on break also much took his mom's on a farm for I saved up but I got all my drink buddy still out on the town I ever settle down there was this girl she's starting to get a dream [Music] Wow [Music] there was a girl [Music] hey yeah yeah a lot of check-ins on the internet people who love them what you're doing I'm loving what you're doing and I can relate to that I I drove to Wisconsin once and my car broke down along the way and my dad didn't know I was going and it was to meet somebody I was interested in and yeah I had to come clean I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere out of gas on the side of the road broken car is the same similar situation I wasn't in a ditch though that was another time but man yeah relatable music and I can feel that and it's it's it's really important to have music that is so connectable so thank you for creating such a thing appreciate it yeah so the next song that's up like I said it's on the top ten top 20 a country radio right now it's your most recent single and it is also the one that kind of had another sort of accidental thing happened somebody did that recording of you and it you're like crap I got to go put this on the record so I got to go record it real quick that's very cool you want to tell us a little bit more about what is up next yeah so this song is a which Grand Falls never died is the name of it you know I wrote it as a tribute to my two granddaddy's mom gunday Buford have said several times as far the reason I got into country music he was a big fan of country music had an old Epiphone guitar that I kind of learned to play on and he passed away in 2010 and my Grande Linden passed away earlier last year in February and I remember writing down a title kind of you know in that vein my way back from Las Vegas when I found out he passed away going home for the funeral on I wrote the song a little while after and you know the record was done we weren't wasn't going to make the album and [Music] I didn't really have any aspirations of being a hit song or anything I just kind of wrote it for myself I played it at a show in Georgia I believe and somebody video to put it on YouTube and next he knows got how many million views you know so you know go to the label or like me when I need to record this people were singing it it shows and requesting it before it ever even got put out it was the craziest thing to me and deceased people really latch on to a song like that and it's something that's really special about this song is everybody's got their own line and it too you know it's like though it's a different story from a different person every time they come up it's this line means this to me here and that's just the coolest thing in the world because I wrote that song so specifically about my life and that many people are relating to it as a songwriter is one of the best feelings you can get can't can only imagine man I mean we are all in this together and yeah but what a unique thing I am looking forward to finding out what my line is in this song man thanks for sharing that and for sharing all this music today thank you so yeah we'll get into this and then I will we'll chat a little bit and then send you on your way man it's been really great to hang so if you have to hear this [Music] which girls you love never came back diamond rings push ever pour try them in there so there's a few ties happening for what line but that's a great song thank you great so I'm sure yeah I can I can I can Amanda picture some of the stories that maybe you've been told over the years or over the over the span of time that song is going around so yeah it's good one they're all been good ones and we got some check-ins on the Internet Kansas City Calgary UK people from all over so wanting to see I wanted to meet loving what you're doing a lot of holy cows Wow's and other comments about just how talented you both are and and then I share all those sediments fully
