welcome to our slash I don't work here lady where we share stories about folks that are mistaken for employees by irate customers and the first story is not my store not my problem for the record I do work for Walmart and did at the time of the story my oldest niece goes to college just a couple hours drive from my home every so often I'd make the drive out on my day off to visit with her and make sure she had everything she needed her mom covered the rent on her apartment she walked most everywhere and most stores she needed were within walking distance except the local Walmart so during a visit she thought of a few things she needed from the store no big deal we head over there we wander around and gathered the supply she needed a few school supplies a movie that had just released some fabric for a latest cosplay idea and we're looking over the game case commenting on some recent releases and mulling a purchase enter customer customer excuse me I need a game out of here would you unlock it for me me sorry I don't work here but I see the guy with the keys right over there it's my day off I'm not in anything that could remotely be construed as dress code for Walmart much less a nametag customer no I recognize you I know you work here please stop being another lazy freakin give me that game me ma'am I'm sorry I don't work here can't open any case customer shut up look I get it you're lazy you're flirting with a little twit there you think you're gonna get in her pants you work here it's your job to provide customer service me ma'am this is my niece she attends college here I don't even live in this town please leave us alone customer what's your manager's name I'm gonna file a complaint at this point I realize I can have a little fun with this especially as my manager at the time has a love of snarky behavior and a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to customers like this I give her my manager's name and cell number knowing he was also off that day he listens to the complaint then asks which store she's in because that doesn't sound like the kind of person he wants working under him she's confused but gives the college town name I hear him laugh over the phone loudly then he tells her in no uncertain terms that I don't work at that store and delete me alone he then hangs up before she can get a word in edgewise customer oh very funny getting some friend of yours to cover for you now get me that game at this point the actual associate comes up and asks which game she angrily points at it he unlocks the case and gets a copy out customer at least someone around here can do their D job you need to tell your co-worker here to stop thinking with his D local associate ma'am he's another customer he doesn't work here and please don't use that sort of language in the store customer another cover story F local associate ma'am please refrain from swearing in the store there are children nearby customer F you and your whole Epping store and your effing horny AFC won't do their effing jobs F your effing SH I'm going to gamestop this attracts the attention of the store manager who comes over to see what the commotion is store manager after listening to a profanity-laden rant about the poor customer service ma'am I'm gonna have to ask you to leave you're harassing other customers pointing at me and my niece belittling my staff pointing at the actual electronics guy and your language is not appreciated in Walmart the exit is this way if you do not want to leave of your own accord I can have the police escort you out it finally sinks in that I was telling the truth all along color drained from her face as she slowly walked away abandoning the cartload of merchandise she'd already selected I noticed her again on her way out just staring blankly into her steering wheel update the karin apologizes a decade later so sometime ago I was visiting my niece I just talked to her today and she had a surprise for me she ran into that exact Karen who recognized her and apologized my niece still in college working on her doctorate also runs weekly D&D games at a local game shop to help new players into role-playing a pair of twin boys she tells me they're eight have been regulars since she started and she's enjoyed having them at her table most of the time they come in with their dad a Magic the Gathering player and he watches them from across the room while he plays and hangs out with some of his friends the owner knows him and the boys well and something happened that he couldn't stick around and left the boys in my nieces and the owners care for the duration of the session she tries to keep it to two hours because kids at the end of the session one of the boys looks out the door and calls to his brother that their mom was there to get them she came in and called the boys then stopped short my niece said she wasn't sure how the Karen recognized and that she had almost forgotten the incident until then and had to be job to remember her but their mom approached her and introduced herself ironically her name turned out to be Karen then had the boys go get drinks from the shop owner turns out we encountered her on the worst day of her life she had found out her husband was cheating on her and was preparing to drop divorce papers on her she had lost her job due to cutbacks and seeing my niece who apparently looked a lot like her husband's mistress just cause something to snap she had wanted to get something for her kid to soften the blow of the divorce and the change is about to happen and ended up going off the deep end in the time since she turned herself around and found a new man in her life and had the twins with him plus gain full custody of her kid with the first husband and it found a new career for herself she said that day stuck in the back of her mind as the person she least wanted to be again and wanted to live every day being better than that she never expected to see either of us again likely she never will see me again I don't have opportunity to go out there like I used to but always wanted to apologize for the way she acted keep your hearts open everyone change is indeed possible for some of these Karen's the second story is should I call them too I feel this tangentially fits the correct category for this sub and I don't like this story so I'm gonna tell you all years ago while I was in college I found a job as a Systems admin for a very tiny new web host we had 24/7 support but all that meant is we had four employees working phones on alternating 12-hour shifts so only one employee was working at any given time one weekend I got a call from a lady who was distraught Dalziel distraught lady me-me-me hi thanks for calling my name is Fink Wolfe how can I help today distraught lady I need to speak to your manager me I'm sorry ma'am but we don't have a manager working over the weekend the earliest I can have one get in contact with you will be 9:30 on Monday is there something I can perhaps help you with distraught lady my site is down me why I can definitely take a look into that for you now can you give me all your information so I can start looking into it distraught lady it's down now I can't wait to give you all my information it needs to be fixed immediately me ma'am unfortunately I can't locate your specific site without information from you can you at least give me the domain name distraught lady its example.com you should know that so already me I'll take a look into it immediately for you I then proceeded to pull up the site with no issues I checked the server no problems I check our ISPs no major service interruptions IVP into a computer I have at home the site loads fine even from an external source me ma'am I'm currently able to pull up the site from both my office computer and an external computer I can't find any issue at all can you check if it's still not working for you distraught lady terrible supports call your manager in I need to speak with him now I then proceeded to attempt to calm the client down for a few minutes that standard procedure at our data center finally she agrees to test distraught lady the site is still down me well that's quite strange does the page give you any warning distraught lady no it just won't load the page me can you send me a screenshot of the issue distraught lady my email won't work either I will be compensated for this mess me ma'am can you open up Google calm for me distraught lady oh my god Google is down too you need to call them and tell them their site is down to me ma'am I don't think Google is down I believe your local ISP is having issues distraught lady you're my ISP me no ma'am we aren't an ISP we're a web host we put your site on the Internet your ISP is who connects your house to the Internet distraught lady I'm sure I talked to your sales guy and you're my ISP you need to fix this me ma'am we don't have sales guys if someone calls our sales line it gets routed to me we're a very small company and I wear several hats currently distraught lady if you're the sales guy then I need to purchase your ISP services immediately me ma'am we aren't an ISP that isn't a service we offer distraught lady do you think I should call Google and tell them that their site is down me yes ma'am I do think that let me know what they say the lady hung up the phone and never called back I checked her call records the next weekend she never called to speak to my manager man I hope she called Google it's been years and I still think about it from time to time the third story is I don't work here anymore please stop blocking the exit I used to work at the IT department of a local high school most of my job was picking up in repairing PCs in doing mate on the Wi-Fi network in the building so the teachers would often come to the IT office asking for me to repair a PC or something one day my contract expired at that school and I got another job so my friends at the IT department decided to throw a small party to celebrate my new job and say their farewells after the party I went to the office to get my stuff in my box and leave for my new job as I'm leaving the office and walking a few meters down the hallway a teacher comes up to me et entitled teacher me marshmallow explosion uh well me entitled teacher wait I need your help a computer at lab 2 isn't working go there to fix it now me I don't work here anymore my contract expired and I'm on my way to the next work now but if you need help just go to the IT office at the end of the corridor and they'll help you out good day entitle teacher but I need it fixed now then entitled teacher ran and block the door leading out to the stairs that exit the building me sir I said I don't work here anymore I don't have the time to look into this matter nor the credentials to enter a lab and use a computer they're entitled teacher but you worked here for a year of course you have credentials me as I said I don't work here anymore I was getting tired of repeating the same thing over and over again and if I go there and fix the computer I can get in trouble since I don't have any authority to meddle with that I just turned around and got through an exit at the other side of the building and left and I could hear him screaming from window entitled teacher I'm gonna report you to the directors board and get you fired me go ahead I don't mind so a few months later I met a friend that still works there and he told me what happened looks like the entitled teacher did actually complain about me to the directors board during a meeting but my old boss was in the meeting and pointed out that I did the right thing since I wasn't an employee of the school anymore and it's screaming like that through the window was less than professional behavior to have it at school I hope you like these insane stories bye you
