welcome to our slash I don't work here lady where we share stories about folks that are mistaken for employees by irate customers and the first story is I'm not a bus driver I work for a major city transport company this company is run by the city and has multiple companies under one big umbrella called transport for my city no it's not London the name is made up so the company I work for runs the trains in our city and our uniforms differ depending on which company you work for for example bus drivers wear orange jackets and white shirts tram drivers steel jackets and grey shirts colours change to hide my identity you get the idea the only similarity that each company has in the uniform is the transport for my city badge which has the badge on the breast and back with city name buses or city name trams or city name Metro anyway I had to deliver a letter from our head manager I work for my City trains to the head manager at my city buses we usually have an internal post delivery service however they come in the morning and this letter was too urgent to wait until tomorrow's post service so I make my way to the main bus depot in my bright fluorescent yellow jacket and black shirt I walk up to the receptionist who was expecting me and pointed me in the direction of the big boss's office I delivered the letter made idle chitchat and then made my way out of the depot I went out via the staff sign on point as it was closest to where I parked and I also knew some of the staff members as they used to work with me the bright yellow company car that had my city trains marked on the side the car was parked inside the garage where all the buses were stored I parked it in the small delivery bay the staff sign on window looked directly at the bay I went and delivered the letter via reception at the other side of the building as I wanted to comply with the signs that instructed deliveries via reception I also wanted to go past the fuel refill station as I love the smell of oil and diesel anyway I digress I walked out the building and past the sign on window I saw an old colleague and started chatting with them about this and that I then heard someone banging on the glass at the sign on window imagine the sign on office is a bank teller window we both glanced over and my friend dressed in the bus uniform said her goodbyes and walked over to the window she then called me over saying they want me hmm maybe the letter I delivered was missing something and boss wanted me to explain I walked back to the window where my friend was standing with her duty equipment looking at a map on the wall that had her bus location when I arrived I was asked if I was doing anything me not really I'm free now that I've delivered the letter sign on staff right take this a bus is broken down and I need you to continue that service he hands over a key fob and a clipboard I stood sort of amused with my mouth open looking around to see if I was supposed to give this duty stuff to anyone after a short few seconds the penny dropped me sorry you must be mistaken I'm not a bus sign on staff you're parked in Bay 23 C on the Volvo fleet hurry you're about to miss your timings he then turned on his heels and scurried off into the back of the room I looked at my friend who was holding her signs laughing calling the sign on staff member an idiot as she walked over to her bus so I'm now stood in the middle of a bus garage obviously wearing a train uniform holding bus equipment I started to go a bit red with embarrassment as I now look like the idiot who has forgotten which company he works for I ring the bell for attention at the sign on window and the same sign on staff member approached cursing me and asking why I'm not on board yet me look I'm not driving this bus I'm a train driver he mustn't have been listening to me correctly as he's preoccupied with his iPad sign on staff how's that my problem you have your stuff go me no you're not hearing me properly I don't work for this company I work sign on staff then why are you here if you're not wanting to report for duty then call in sick since nothing was getting through his dense skull I decided to remain silent until I had his full attention he must have taken this silence as me leaving as he was fully engrossed in his iPad I slammed the clipboard and fought back on the desk as loud as I could which made him slightly jump but again he was still sucked in by the black hole on his iPad screen me excuse me sign on staff what still had first in his iPad me look at me he then looked at me and I swear to god one eye was drifting down towards his iPad while one was scanning my torso then the penny dropped both eyes snap back together looking right into my soul sign on staff you do realize you're in the wrong building your trained staff I started to look around the garage in complete amazement hoping my friend had just heard this but alas she disappeared into the bus void never to be seen again me I was here to deliver a letter to boss sign on staff well this is in his office me I know I've just come from the office never mind take your stuff back maybe you should listen to your staff more sign on staff maybe you should come to the correct Depot I rolled my eyes and shook my head at him while fixing my bright yellow jacket and over-exaggerating my movements when zipping the front up all the way to my chin so he could see the bright yellow I am a mother effing trained staff jacket I was wearing I then walked over to my bright yellow I'm a trained staff car and slammed the door as hard as I could while looking him in the eyes pointless endeavor as his eyes were back to his iPad I went back to my Depot which by the way is on the outskirts at the opposite end of the city and told my manager about this buffoon after a quick description of him my manager chuckled and said huh you finally met Charlie supposedly the guy's a moron but due to nepotism he somehow has a job in that company the second story is racist because I do not work here so first off I admit I am autistic on a phone and emotional about what I'm attempting to write about I meet my family at a restaurant I love going to I'm wearing black dress pants black shoes in a polo black shirt I was dressed like this because I was in a college choir and that was the expectation the restaurant was rather busy and I'm on good terms with some of the staff so I choose to grab a towel from the outside customer side counter after greeting my family and wipe down the table we chose to sit at my friend slash acquaintance standing on the service side of the counter sees me and we talked for a short moment and I hand her the towel so she can toss it in the bucket I started heading back to my family when it happens CL equals confused lady F equals friend M equals manager mom equals mama bear me equals me confused lady excuse me me I do not realize she's talking to me I don't know her and was focused on what I was going to be eating and getting to see my family confused lady excuse me me still thinking about food but dude a louder voice took more notice confused lady excuse me slams hand on table and pulls out phone angrily walks in front of me confused lady hi I was wondering why you're ignoring me she holds phone in my face and talks really fast about how I ignored her talk to co-workers instead of doing my job and how I would not help her then points at my family confused lady notice the white customers that arrived after me have been helped by her she tells me to look at her table and puts the camera on it she asks angrily did you wipe down the white family's table after they came in me having anxiety attack on a to speak and crying because I am overstimulated yes I wiped it down but I get cut off confused lady so you admit you were taking care of that table while ignoring me because of the color of my skin me what I don't cuts me off confused lady I will be sending this video to your owners tomorrow you chose the wrong person to do this to me I'm just crying at this point because I'm so freaked out I don't want to be in her film and I try to hide my face confused lady oh now you're trying to hide now that I'm making you take accountability I want your name now luckily my friend sees what is going on and walks over with the manager confused lady goes off with the video camera in his face about how he needs to fire me for my clear racial discrimination how she was going to send the video up the chain asking my name and gets more upset when the manager who's trying to find his own response stays quite a moment too long she screams louder that she wants my name and other angry stuff the manager is in his 30s and more soft-spoken he lets her talk for what felt like forever my mom comes up at this point mom hey you coming back confused lady goes off about how entitled my mom was and that other people even if they are black deserve the same customer service my mom understands what was going on right away with the all-black outfit I was wearing I looked like I worked there with my need to try and help out by wiping my table I acted like I worked there how she explained it to me later my mom looks at the upset lady in the eyes starts breathing deeply eventually magically getting the lady to start to copy her helping her calm down while the manager started off with the apology of being so busy she is still filming but not yelling anymore at this point my mom then said this mom excuse me this is my daughter I understand she's dressed similarly to the employees here but I promise you she is not employed here I'm sorry you've had a bad experience but I'm gonna be taking my daughter back to our table now confused lady if she doesn't work here why was she wiping tables down and talking with her coworkers this is where my friend slash acquaintance finally cuts in friend she's a regular and helps out by wiping her own table her bussing some of her dishes from time to time I told her it was fine as long as she did not go on the service side of the counter confused lady was clearly embarrassed at this point she finally put her camera down my mom wishes her well over her explaining how I should not give the impression of working there mom pulls me back to our table with the ladies still talking she ended up leaving after the manager and her finished talking and my friend said he gave her a free dessert to go I ended up getting free dessert that night as well I really hope she doesn't post that video anywhere I've been looking online daily since this happened it has really kicked up my anxiety my mom and I concluded that when you're harassed by society everyday because of who you are it starts to break you inside I get bullied a lot myself when my autism shows I can try and hide that and get away with hiding it often she did not hate me she hates the way she has been treated by others I just wish it could have gone better the next story is girl stops me in hospital lobby asking for diagnosis I'll start this story by admitting that I actually am a doctor but was not practicing at this hospital I had just come off my shift at a hospital on the other side of the city and was stopping in to visit a family member I was wearing scrubs no lab coat or name badge but I understand how I could be confused for someone who works there I was leaving the hospital and it just got into the main lobby when a very hyper girl about 17 to 18 years old grabbed my arm and stopped me hyper girl excuse me me yes hyper girl can you tell me what this is hyper girl then proceeds to lift up her shirt exposing her abdomen which is covered in a rash I took a step back because I was caught off guard by the encounter and said uh no are you going to the ER hyper girl no do I need to go to the ER me probably not I just asked because you were walking that direction hyper girl well can you at least try and figure out what it is it's really itchy and there all these bumps feel it me no thanks hyper girl why are all the doctors around here so unhelpful me I'm not even a doctor here hyper girl whatever you're wearing those doctor clothes me most everyone working in a hospital wears them if you're grabbing random people from the lobby chances are you've asked housekeeping or volunteers to diagnose your rash you need to make an appointment to see someone in the clinic hyper-girl was starting to get more hysterical at this point I don't even know where to go to do that can't you just prescribe me a cream for it me no I can't I don't even know what you've got truthfully I didn't I'm an ob/gyn dermatology is outside my wheelhouse hyper girl I guess I'm just gonna go to the ER then since you're so unhelpful me okay good luck seriously such a weird encounter the last story is Karen mistakes me for an employee while on vacation short so I was at a resort in Punta Cana Dominican Republic my parents are Dominican so I speak pretty fluent Spanish I always by the pool chatting with one of the lifeguards when a Aaron in her 30s tapped me on the shoulder Karen excuse me I need a clean Oh tallow she stares at me while holding a soap towel me sorry I don't work here you might want to Karen cuts me off Karen yes you do I just saw you speaking Spanish me so what I'm also speaking perfect English Karen well if you're working with tourists you should speak English trying to not seem rude I pointed to the towel station Karen can't you grab me one I don't speak Spanish me no you can figure it out Karen walks away angry and me thinking that was the end of it I headed to the bar lucky for me I was able to overhear her screaming I need someone who speaks English in this place I have a complaint about one of your employees an employee takes her to the front desk to speak with the manager 20 minutes later I see the same employee return to his post and I asked him what happened employee that crazy lady started screaming in English so he took her to the manager she wanted to get someone fired but nobody knows who she's talking about I laughed and told him it was probably me he laughed and
