hello we have a new day and news stories from the r / don't work here lady so let's begin Kroger is not owned by Walmart background I used to work at Kroger which is essentially like a fancy-ass version of Walmart sometimes I shop at Kroger because I get a really good discount from being an employee but typically it's expensive so I don't go there I go to Walmart cast om old man M me D deli clerk story time so one night I finished my shift at the Kroger deli and actually got out on time because we were decently staffed for once my uniform was a dark blue shirt with our logo khakis and a Boar's Head apron our main product was Boar's Head rather than spend over $50 for the few things I needed I decided to go a mile up the road to Walmart I didn't even take off my apron because I just didn't give a damn I walked into Walmart still in my uniform and grabbed a cart I was browsing by the bakery because I have an enormous sweet tooth and I like to buy a little cakes and such as I'm stopping to look at a cake an older man middle-aged stop by me and aggressively tried to take my cart I was rather shocked and yanked it back me I'm using this cart sir old man you're an employee you don't need a cart anyways me um I'm not an employee though I'm a customer like you and I'm using this cart please get your own old man stop lying you work here you're dressed just like the other employees I was quite fed up with him by this point so I pointed directly at my nametag which has a Kroger logo on it me what does this say old man Kroger me yeah and are we in Kroger right now old man Walmart owns Kroger so you're really just a Walmart employee now give me this cart you're working me laughing hysterically walmart does not own Kroger they're a competitor now let go and leave me alone old man how rude I'll have you fired for this get me the manager I kept on walking but he blocked my way in motion for one of the deli clerks nearby to come over deli clerk can I help is something wrong old man yes this employee is being rude and disrespectful I want the manager now deli clerk sir she doesn't work here she works for Kroger this isn't Kroger clearly upset that no one will take his BS he stormed away I continued my shopping without incident but I did see him by the front screaming at a manager and pointing at me the manager was just shaking her head and making eye contact with me as I walked by edit for anyone wondering why I called Kroger fancy that's just my personal opinion of it the one I worked at was brand new and had new machines sold clothes had a Fred Myers jewelry store in it etc it's also more expensive than Walmart up the road as the for clothing items I bought yesterday a shirt bra yoga pants and a pair of shoes would have cost 124 dollars if I didn't still have my Kroger card but instead cost me 60 and change I could have bought all that at Walmart for 40 the reason I didn't buy it at Walmart is a whole nother story why not just commit battery on a teenager because he helped a lady and not you even though he doesn't work here so I was in a local home improvement store that has more agricultural related products picking up some welding equipment I grabbed five pounds of the electrodes I need to practice running for school while I'm grabbing them a lady asked me if I could help her find a hood and a few types of electrodes for her husband who was just getting into welding now I like helping people when it's something that I am knowledgeable about I help her by showing her the types I learned on when I first learned that type of welding she thanks me and walks away and I grabbed the electrodes and head toward the front register keep in mind that I'm in jeans and a black leather jacket that in no way resembles the store uniform of red vest with the company name on it this lady pulls on the sleeve of my jacket as I walked by and she didn't lightly tug on it either I don't like to be touched by people who don't know me just like any other person retail worker or not so I turned on my heels and I'm about ready to confront the person who just forcefully grabbed my brand-new leather jacket it's an older lady who immediately looks like she has a stick up her butt she asked me if I know if they have any trailer hitches in the back I told her that I don't work here and she says something like you just help that lady get some things in the other aisle I tell her I did but I do not work here I just came for these and I show her the five pound container of electrodes but you helped the other lady so why can't you go get a trailer hitch from the back this lady says is her brain short-circuits she then tries to grab me again as I step away she starts to come unglued she says something like get back here you sob and since when is it okay to help one customer and blow off another as I walk toward the registers I immediately turn around and ask when is it okay to commit battery on a minor just because he doesn't work in a store there's never a line at the front so I immediately tell the guy at the register what happened in a matter of seconds after I stopped talking to him she marches over all red in the face she then goes to him and tells him how much of a horrible employee I am and how I need to be fired he tells her he doesn't work here you have 30 seconds to leave the store or we will call the police at this point it finally clicks in her head that she effed up she sighs loudly and leaves without another word the guy at the register was very apologetic and offered to cover the charge of the electrodes about $30 including tax which I declined and paid for another departments manager doesn't know my name rages when I don't answer her this isn't the usual ID WHL story where a member of the public demands you serve them but it is in the same spirit when I was a teenager I worked in the general merchandise department of a major UK supermarket ie TV CDs home wear etc basically anything other than food toiletries and cleaning stuff this role meant I was trained to use the till but the majority of my work was stocking shelves and recording stock in the warehouse in this supermarket as I'm sure is the case with most others when things got busy the checkout manager would call over the tannoy to request help from I'll tell trained staff or specific staff members by name when this happened you normally had to drop what you were doing and go and sit on the tills until the queues were reduced one Saturday afternoon I heard a call over the tannoy for someone whose name was vaguely similar to mine but not the same let's say Adam instead of Andrew not my actual name I paid no attention to it and continued working on my stock check in the warehouse when I returned to the shop for about twenty minutes later the checkout manager marches up to me and yells that she told me to come down and I have to do what she says I told her I never heard her call me at which point she says something along the lines of don't lie Adam you must have heard me at this point it clicks that she doesn't know my name despite me having worked there for six months regularly interacted with her and had my name on her list of till trained staff so I calmly tell her my name is Andrew not Adam she doesn't accept this and we get into a bit of an argument where she has convinced my name is Adam and that I'm messing her around I told her to check with the duty manager my line manager or any of the supervisors and her team as I knew them all I then walked off to resume my work at age 17 it felt a bit dangerous to walk away from a manager who was having a go at you but I was in the right and I knew I could easily get one of the other managers on my side if she tried to punish me I worked at that place for about a year after this incident and at least once every couple weeks I would hear Adam to the checkouts I knew full well she was asking for me but never once answered the call out of principle and when she inevitably had a go at me I inevitably told her she didn't ask for me after a few months of this she finally spoke to my manager about disciplining me to which my manager obviously told her she had it wrong she started using my actual name after that but spoke to me like I was a piece of dirt every time she saw me gotta love it when vindictive incompetent people get into small positions of power No I'm not your coworker I have been a longtime lurker but today it finally happened to me I went out today to do some early Christmas shopping I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet but I love Christmas I went to an outdoor store that was having a sale on cozy socks I thought my mother-in-law might like I was browsing all the different patterns when this interaction happened for simplicity sake I'll be me the store manager will be SM SM hello can I help you find anything me No thank you just browsing SM do you need me to bring more socks out from the back me no that's all right I'm fine with what I have SM well the shelves won't be very stocked with just those few pair me questionmark SM aren't you stocking these shelves you really shouldn't be shopping while you're working me looks down at a green sweater in jeans I'm wearing that looked nothing like the blue uniform no I don't work here SM if you don't work here then why are you stocking these shelves me I'm not I'm shopping this circular argument went on for another few minutes until I finally walked away I'm not sure he ever got that I didn't work for him how can a
