the video history channel's had reality TV show Popstars dissenters and the daily transactions of the world-famous gonna Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas has been running for 15 seasons now but the pawn shop was already a successful business even before the show debuted back in 2009 obviously this is the result of years and years of experience as well as some questionable negotiation tactics we have heard Rick say I gotta make profit here numerous times so it doesn't come as a surprise that the guys from Pawn Stars usually use the oldest tricks in the book to take advantage of people who trust them to get a good price for their items they would usually ask the customers how much do they want for an item which is a trick question designed to see if the seller even has any idea of the price range that type of object sells for because more often than not people don't do any research ahead of time as to how much the item they're selling is worth obviously the guys from the pawn shop are not in business to pay market value for the items and usually want to buy as cheaply as they can so they always tried to make the best out of the deals by giving insultingly lowball offers in any events without further ado here five times the paw star's lowball customers thanks to blockbuster movie franchises for marble and DC that made superheroes more popular than ever comic books are not one of the coolest and most expensive collectibles in modern pop culture especially the older ones the rarer and older they are the higher their value is especially if they're in mint condition today some of the comic books are worth a fortune with their price going up to a couple of millions of dollars so that's probably what Chumlee mesmerized with the things he was presented with was thinking what he shamelessly lowball the customer which in the end still didn't work in his favor some pretty cool stuff in here in an episode aptly named chums risky business from season 15 a woman entered the pawn shop with boxes and boxes of old comic books she inherited from her uncle all the comic books she doesn't know anything about were handed down to her and she was looking to sell them certain there's something valuable in the pile judging by the prices on them Chumlee concluded they date from 70s or 80s the period also known as the Bronze Age of comics without asking for a second opinion Chumlee started haggling the woman's initial asking price was $2,000 but Chumlee immediately lowered it taken into account the time needed to go through all of them and find the diamond in the rough he offered her $50 per box which summed up to 350 dollars but they eventually struck a deal at 500 with Chum saying that life is about chances and sometimes he just gotta take him unfortunately when an expert checked the comics out it turned out that this wasn't the right chance to take as he said that the comics would sell for about $200 if the pawn stars were lucky and seven boxes of recyclable paper so they're basically worthless back in the 70s no one would have foreseen that the movie Godfather based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel of the same name and directed by Francis Ford Coppola would become a major success it was supposed to be a cheap pot voter that Paramount Pictures thought it could produce cheaply and pick up a quick but small profit however thanks to Koppel as vision in his portrayal of mobsters as complex characters of actual psychological depth the movie became an all-time classic I mean surely getting your hands in the movie screenplay supposedly signed by one of the cast members whose name stands carved in gold in Hollywood history would be worth of low-balling just about anyone in this case that anyone was a woman by the name of Diane in season four she came to the pawn shop with a bound copy of The Godfather screenplay which wouldn't be all that interesting if it weren't for the mysterious signature of Val on the first page Diane wanted to sell the script so she could raise funds for the charity organization hoping it's worth ten thousand dollars still without much to go on except enigmatic Cal everyone thinking about Al Pacino so Ric called in a hand right expert John who eventually confirmed the authenticity of the signature despite the fact that the Godfather is one of the greatest movies of all time Rick wasn't ready to give more than five hundred dollars for it so Diane decided to keep it ultimately she managed to sell the screenplay for whomping twelve thousand dollars at a charity fundraiser but there was a twist after hearing about the auction The Godfather producers stepped forward to clarify some things his name was out ready and he was actually the one who signed the script many people believe that collecting sports memorabilia goes way back to the first decades of the 20th century when folks started collecting baseballs from baseball games and asking Babe Ruth for autographs as years passed and many other sports stars joined their sports memorabilia collectors also began to broaden their horizons still baseball still remains number one when it comes to sports memorabilia as it started at all and today there are many serious collectors out there willing to pay a small fortune as rare memorabilia are bought and sold for prices soaring into the millions the guys from Pawn Stars are very well aware of this so it doesn't come as a surprise that they're willing to lowball just about anyone who comes into their store would such a valuable item one time a man named Clint brought a baseball signed by 1951 World Series champion you work Hank East at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop Clint's initial price was three thousand dollars which seemed more than fair considering the items condition and backstory however not wanting to make a mistake the old man brought in Brenda a handwriting expert who compared the signatures from the ball with the authentic one she had with her and concluded they were the real deal knowingly or not Brenda gave the old man some room to haggle by saying that the value of the ball is subjective and that its price depends on what both interested parties would go for the best that the old man could do was offer $800 for the ball so Clint just walked out with the precious item it turned out it's for the best at least as far as Clint's concerned because last year a similar ball was featured on Antiques Roadshow and only this ball was also signed by Marilyn Monroe who later married team captain Joe DiMaggio that ball was appraised at fifteen thousand dollars because it included Marilyn Monroe's autograph but the expert valued it at five to seven thousand dollars if it were missing hers in other words the old man insanely low-balled Clint but fortunately for the owner of the ball he struck out hard as most fans of the show know very well rick is quite a bookworm something he probably got from his late father as such the Harrises have no problem giving insultingly lowball offers when a valuable book comes through their door and more often than not they usually know more about the book than they let on in the episode title put up your dekes from season 4 a man named Bob entered the pawn shop hoping to sell a four hundred and fifty year old book that was supposedly once owned by Sir Isaac Newton who was aside from Apple falling on his head also known for dabbling in the occult studies the book dealt with the matters of alchemy and was believed to be one of the few remaining books from Sir Isaac Newton's personal library naturally the old man recognized the possible value of the books and recalled in a rare book expert Gary after discovering handwritten notes and formulas in the margins Gary confirmed that the book was authentic and that it really belonged to the famous scientist even though the book didn't have the original binding and had been restored in the 18th century the expert estimated the books valley around $20,000 however in no matter how valuable the book was the old man offered a ridiculously low amount of $5,000 but Bob eventually managed to talk him up to 7,000 all things considered Bob not only got himself a pretty bad deal but also had to buy dinner for the old man give me seven for it I'll buy you dinner sounds like a plan even though Newton is best known for establishing the theory of universal gravitation and the three laws of motion the value of the book for which the old man shamelessly low-balled the customer doesn't just lie in the fact that it was a part of his personal library the book was written by George's Agricola a 16th century physician who practiced medicine in the silver mining district of the borders of today's Germany in the Czech Republic his practice enabled him to pursue his real talent studying geology and he is now considered the founder of the modern science of physical geology the old man must have recognized the name of the author and the importance of the book so he did everything he could to get it back in season seven core we set out to prove to Rick and the old man that he should have an ownership stake in the pond shop he saw an opportunity in the Lord David who came into the pawn shop to sell a 15th century samurai sword David got the sword as a collateral from a client that didn't come back to claim it so the Lord decided to sell it not having a clue how much the sword is worth during the backroom confessional before the negotiation with the seller took place Corey said that he had seen a few of those swords going for thousands of dollars which makes his initial offer of 800 dollars really low in every sense after some negotiations the two shook hands at $1,500 which is a steel still the unsuspecting lawyer not realizing he had just been schemed said that he wanted to jump and do the - how happy he was the expert was brought in only later on and finally estimated the swords valued around five to six thousand dollars in its current condition however it could go up to fifteen thousand dollars if Corey decided to undertake a three thousand dollar restoration which counted as a scorer in Chumley's book thank you for
