hey one of things we've been doing is we've got a little Hebrews Creed that we have put together our team and we've been reading it every week at the start of all of our sermons and someone to bring up on the screen on the count of three can we read this out loud together ready one two three I live by faith and not by sight the Lord is my helper so I will have no fear since Jesus has gone through suffering and testing he is able to help me when I am being tested I hold tightly to the hope of God's promise for my life I encourage my brother and sisters to do the same I run the race God has set before me and I'm not going back come on Lou Church make some noise I'm not going back I want to talk today out of Hebrews chapter 10 I want to preach from the subject once and for all once and for all I don't know if you've noticed this but we are living in a time period right now that people are very self occupied have you noticed this people are very just self occupied how do I know this well think about the last time you took a group picture where did your eyes first go they go to yourself right you don't look at all the other people you look at you what do you look like anybody got that friend that when they post a picture on Instagram they don't care what you look like all they care about is what they look like raise your hand if you're that friend where are you now we live in a self occupied time that the focus is going to ourselves and to be quite honest with you this is one of the greatest distractions of the enemy because the enemy can keep you focused on yourself then you can always remind you that you are not enough that's a big struggle for a lot of us if we can be honest today it's that we just feel not enough go to all the categories of whatever makes up your life but you start going to those categories and when your self occupied over and over again you recognize I don't measure up I'm not good enough I'm not sharp enough I'm not smart enough my capacity isn't big enough I don't know about you but I struggle with just I'm not enough it's amazing because even in places like this the Church of Jesus Christ you can catch this type of thinking showing up even in a community of faith I could be really amazing to take an inventory of your prayers I wonder if God answered all your prayers what would change just your life or the world because a lot of us are just praying about me myself an i if you're not careful you can come to worship and you can think that a worship service is all about making you feel better before you leave making you feel better is a byproduct of worship it's not the point of worship the point of worship is to take the attention off of you put the attention on God and put Worth and value on his name and the more and more I take the focus off of me and the more more I put the focus on him I'm reminded that yes I am not enough but thank God for Jesus who has always been more than enough come on me buddy thankful for a God who's more than enough today I want to try to attempt to help you not be so self-id and become more jesus occupied because every time you become Jesus occupied you will recognize that you don't have what it takes but thank God for His grace His grace fills in the gaps you don't have to leave here feeling ashamed you don't have to leave here walking in guilt and condemnation you can stand in the grace of Jesus Christ secure confident and ready for whatever comes your way Hebrews is a letter written to Hebrew people they're Jews who have converted over to Christianity meaning they've left the old way of the law and a religious system and they put their trust in Jesus saying that salvation comes by his work in his work alone but as they stepped out to follow Jesus they didn't realize that they were going to be accused criticized and even persecuted for this new way of thinking in this new message they were preaching so there's this temptation happening as they start to be persecuted to go back to the old way to go back to the old system to go back to being self occupied trusting in their rules regulations religion rituals and their system and the writer is pleading over and over again no keep your eyes on Jesus never noticed that sometimes the more simple something is the less profound we think it is like sometimes people they can get really spiritually mature and they can go I need something more than Jesus oh I know the gospel but give me the deep stuff the deep stuff is the Jesus stuff the deep stuff is the good news of what Jesus did that you are not enough but Jesus Christ is more than enough not going back to trusting myself I'm moving forward trusting in Jesus that was in um New York last week in Los Angeles and while I was traveling and I went and did this home I'm gonna use the word aerobic class um it's called Rumble and it's a boxing class I don't want to say boxing because I think it's probably real boxers in our church they're like bro that's not real boxing but but but I learned when I went to this thing called Rumble um that there's like six key punches now once again I'm not a professional boxer but there is punch one it's called a jab that was weak but whatever I don't want embarrass people it's punch - it's called a cross punch three left hook punch four right hook punch five uppercut punch six another uppercut you got these six punches and then with these punches you have these combinations that you can put together and you can become a threat you my friend are in a spiritual battle you're not fighting each other but there is an enemy that wants to remind you that you are less than that you don't have what it takes that you don't measure up that you're not good enough and today I want to use Hebrews 10 and I want to give you a three punch combination that when the enemy comes your way you can say once and for all I have exactly what it takes I don't have to back down I don't have to move backwards I'm not going backwards I'm moving forward once and for all let me give you the first part of this combo Hebrews chapter 10 verse 1 these are just basic observations it says the law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming not the realities themselves for this reason it can never buy the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year make perfect those who draw near to worship here's your jab the law is a shadow grace is a substance that maybe you're like bro what is that I'm gonna show you what that is because that's gonna help you today anybody out there like watching movies we're yet lazy you know I'm kidding oh not watching how about this better better question how many this is kind of like a lost art form today in culture who actually still likes going to the movies where are you guys oh okay yeah we got some cultured people here I don't get to the movies nearly enough anymore but but I really do like going but when I go I have a whole system I got to get there early and when I get there early I have a whole thing that I eat I get peanut M&Ms I get a large popcorn for me myself and I and I get a diet coke because I'm on a diet and I ice I sit there and I like to get there early and get my space and like get my area because I want an area I don't want like H I want an area you know and I get in there and my favorite part about going to movies are the previews I don't know man I'm just like oh that's all I get into the previews I go to the previews like I'm going to church I shout back you know I gotta see that you know how that guy Jennifer Lee see you in that like make my wife get the calendar out mark it down you ever been like to the movies and you're watching the previews and you get disappointing she's like dang it I wish I was watching that movie instead of the movie work - because the previews are like highlights they're the package to give you the highlight that the quick moments however we all know that the preview is not actually the movie it's just a glimpse of what's to come the scripture in Hebrews chapter 10 is saying the law is a shadow it's it's not the reality it's not the whole story it's not the best part it's not the fullness my older brother pastors a church in Tacoma Washington and he has two children he has a daughter named Israel we call her Izzi he has a son named Fulton and my older brother was the first to have like kids out of all the brothers out of my siblings and so Israel we call her Izzy she was the first grandchild and so she was like one of the first little kind of kids I used if evergage to come like hang out with and so I'd always be playing with her and stuff I remember one time we were out there visiting them and we were in this hallway that had a corner it was so funny because I would be around the corner and all is he could see is my shadow on the wall she couldn't see me but she could see my shadow and every time she saw my shadow she would get like excited she started laughing and cheering because although she couldn't see me she was getting the hint that I was on the way she could see the outline that I was coming that I'm that I'm on the way shadows ultimately are just light hitting an object nothing wrong with shadows but come on like the shadow is just a glimpse it's it's a preview that something else is coming the law the old testament is a shadow it's a preview it's an outline of Jesus Christ yet how many know you can't have a relationship with a shadow unless you're like Peter Pan but the shadow is is not the object of your affection yet some of us in this room today we have more trust in the shadow than we do the substance we have more faith in the law instead of the one who fulfilled the law I like what William Barclay the theologian he says it this way he says without Christ you cannot get beyond the shadows of God meaning when you read the Bible and especially the Old Testament if you're doing so without adding Jesus to the story all you're getting is a shadow yet Jesus is the substance grace is not a principle grace is a person who has the name his name is Jesus Christ yet a shadow is formed when light hits an object and it gives you an outliner it gives you a picture I love the simple fact that Jesus Christ is called the light of the world that for so long the light was hitting the law you were getting an outline a preview a hint a clue of what was to come yet when Jesus Christ came to this earth he did not come to abolish the law it's better than that he came to fulfill it as if to say he came to walk right through it so you could get a clearer picture exactly of what God was trying to say he was trying to say a name in the name is Jesus come on somebody give him some praise today the law is a shadow grace is a substance everything foretold was all about Jesus and Jesus is where your strength comes from not the law in fact the law the scripture says the law is a mirror so what that means is is that means is that as you stare at the law you see a reflection of all that you're not because God is perfect and you compared to God are really not perfect oh my god I've got wrinkles all the Botox in the world won't clean up your soul you don't compare and what happens is is that when you cling to shadows condemnation and guilt and not enough this show up a lot of us in this room the reason why you feel so not enough is because you're staring into the shadows and the shadows leave you uncertain they leave you confuse you know the law in itself it's like it's not even it's not evil or bad sometimes in church we can kind of give it like the law like a bad like a little law like the law it's giving you an outline of Jesus it's giving it's a mere 'its it's showing you the perfect nature of God and that you don't measure up but the law like all by itself isn't meant to punish you it's it's meant to protect you my son Wyatt he's 17 months of age and he is in the 99 percentile for height he's an incredible kid um and literally last night it finally happened around 2:00 in the morning we hear horror cries coming from his bedroom I wasn't sure what was happening dawn sure he got up of course and um if you can believe it Wyatt climbed out of his crib 17 months here we go it has begun fell out of his crib in the dark screaming crying panic how many of you know the crib that I paid for it's not a cage it's a boundary for safety for Wyatt hey Wyatt you're 17 months you don't really even know how to get a good night's sleep you don't really understand you got a sleep all night otherwise your whole day is gonna be messed up you gotta get it rhythm y'all learn the rhythm it's important to rest I want you to stay in the crib it's not a cage it's actually a boundary I want to protect you I want you to sleep soundly I want you to learn this son I love you very very much but why it is a sinner ah why as my father punished me why is he put me in this prison of limitation let me get past the boundary let me climb out of the cage let me get out of this thing only to stumble into a darkness that he has never encountered on his own and there he is in the darkness it is the closest living hell he has ever experienced as he is panicking all by himself where am I at now I am out of the grace zone I am out of protection I am out of my father's will this is scary let me scream let me cry yet when mom and dad come in we don't look at him and say what is wrong with you you sinful heathen child stay there I'm coming back tomorrow when the light comes on oh heck no we get down we pick that boy up and we say I will never leave you all you got to do is cry out and I will show up cuz I'm a good father somebody give him some praise today then even when you got out there on your own will he came and picked you up the law it's a shadow but if you're trying to fulfill that thing without the substance of grace oh you're going to live every day feeling not enough you'll never be the spouse you could be trying to cling to the shadow you'll never be the employer the employee this is not like some Sunday talk stuff this is some stuff that on Monday when you're gonna I'm not enough you gotta go wait wait a minute wait a minute am I trying to like cling to some shadows or am I am i reaching out for the substance which is Jesus it it's got to be coupled with His grace I was in New York I told you last week and you know I'm a tourist when I'm in New York and so I was with some friends went and saw a show and it's kind of late at night is around midnight but like you know people don't live in New York that come to we want to do like tourist stuff it's like hey let's take the subway real New Yorkers like I'm getting on that thing bran out at midnight nah not today you know huh right I'm like oh I wanna have a cross-cultural experience you know what we get down in the in the subway house you ever been in a New York subway but it's like you know that waiting for the Train and it's just like all you know just like shadows and dark get what's in there you know I saw this I saw this shadow in the wall I'm like what is and out of out of this shadow appeared this massive rat but like New York rats they're not like they should be call it should be called cats like I'm like are you splinter from ninja tortoise thing I've ever seen splinter you know how like freaked me out the more I was like the more I stared into the darkness and into the shadows like confidence wasn't coming up it like courage wasn't right it was just like let's get out of here I just I feel uncertain and what happens to so many of us as so many of us we get we get set free by Jesus but then what happens there's so many of us as so many of us we start we start focusing on the shadow we're clinging to the shadow but the law it's just a shout it's not bad it but it's just it's just a shadow and the more I focus on the shadow the more uncertain I become the more I wonder if I'm actually right with God the more I feel condemnation the more I feel shame the more I feel the pressure of this world I wrote it on this way don't doubt in the shadows what Jesus has spoken in the light don't doubt quit staring at the shadow it's just an outline it's a hint that Jesus is coming see the enemy all he has to do is get you to think about you and the more he gets you to think about you the more you recognize I am not enough I don't measure up but the gospel is not about you thinking about you the Gospels you think about Jesus so you see the enemy missile to do he'll use the shadow he'll use the law against you like the devil knows the scriptures the problem with a lot of us in this room is that we don't know the context of the Bible we keep getting verses getting thrown out in any verse left by itself can really mess with you the text has to be put into context if you take the text out of context guess what you're left with the word con and the devil can con you with the law and make you feel less than because he's taking the context away the context of the whole Bible is that you and I are not enough but thank God for Jesus he came and he's more than enough don't let the devil con you any more speak up know God's Word last time I checked the scripture says there is no condemnation for me last time I checked it says the righteous man he falls seven times homie but righteousness does not dictate upon whether or not you fall righteousness is always found and will you get back up greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world I got the substance man his name is Jesus and when the enemy wants to make me feel like I'm not enough I got a job and it's called the laws a shadow but grace is a substance IIIi got the grace of Jesus Christ and I'm clinging to Jesus what watch what the writer says cuz I'm about to give you the cross that's called punch2 otherwise would they not have stopped being offered talking about sacrifices for the worshippers that's su and I would have been cleansed once for all and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins but those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins now the riders talking to a Hebrew audience that many of these people are going back to blood sacrifices of animals we'll talk about it in a moment but he's saying yo those those sacrifices of animals that they can't take your sins away therefore when Christ came into the world he said now he's gonna quote this is Psalm chapter 40 Hebrews quotes more of the Old Testament than any other New Testament book why because it's written to a Jewish audience and it's trying to get them to see the fulfillment that the laws of shadow Jesus is the substance he fulfilled all of this stuff he walked right through it because you and I on our best day never could so this is psalm 40 now sacrifice and offering you did not desire but a body you prepared for me with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased then I said Here I am this is Jesus now it is written about me in the scroll I have come to do your will my god first he said sacrifices and offerings burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire nor were you pleased with them though they were offered in accordance with the law then he said Here I am I have come to do your will watch this I love this he sets the first to establish the second he sets aside the first to establish the second meeting he shows you what the law is saying but now he's come to establish something new and by that will we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ look at this line once and for all we read again we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all one sacrifice for all one sacrifice for all I'm gonna say it again because some of you do not understand how great this is I'm gonna try my hardest to share with you but once every one say once for all once for all here comes the cross this is this punch to the old way is a reminder of sins the new way is a remission of sins see see see the shadow the law I'm gonna keep using that language it's not good news it's bad news it's it's facts it's true it's just oh here's the mirror you don't measure up Oh the scripture says for um for all have sinned and fallen short of glory of God all in the Greek that means everyone all okay everyone you want to see you want to see some filthy rotten sinners look around the room what kind of message is this yeah we're all sinners filthy rotten sinners I'm filthy rotten on the sinner I was I was with some friends that had all new all very very new Christians kind of on the on the journey sort of you know I like that phrase on the journey um kind of like one foot on the path you know like just beginning okay and so um they were in this conversation it made me laugh they were they were comparing sin like in once again I know you're very like spiritual and very mature he's never done this but the conversation was kinda like ah nah bro but like no I ain't ever done that man nah man no I've messed up I ain't been with that many people that's too far I never I'd murder someone though and finally someone the conversation was awesome like pastor rich what do you think and I was like well you know like there's no doubt that different earthly actions have different earthly consequences yeah there's no doubt that there's certain sins on earth that are going to create a different repercussion here on earth um but like for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God the glory of God is like the standard of his perfection so it's like you might not know this but like LeBron James can jump higher than me I mean I know it's a fact jumps higher a lot higher than me but if we change the standard from a ten-foot basketball hoop to the moon he don't jump that much higher than me we're sitting down here on earth comparing our actions to each other's actions not recognizing that God isn't even in your stratosphere you're talking about I can jump higher to the moon than you but bro that might be true but you are still really extra very far from the moon this is why Isaiah the great prophet he said this he said my righteousness is like filthy rags he was saying the more and more I'm drawn to God the more and more I understand who he is I get a bigger recollection of Who I am I do not measure up I do not come close I can't even on my best day even begin to reach him can we just level the playing field for a moment can we quit playing our religious games not as bad as them this is a church that believes in the good news of Jesus Christ I get people that write me stuff rich if you want revival you got to preach harder against sin what what go to every great revival there was sin all around well no they were they were consecrated themselves really oh you still think holiness is a work of your flesh no holiness righteousness it is a gift of His grace I know some preachers that have more trust in the sin in people's lives than they do with the Holy Spirit in people's lives this is a church that wants to shout loud that the Holy Spirit is inside of you anything is possible that greater things we can do together what happens is is that is that we get into this these silly games we don't talk about friend every time you focus on sin shame is the result condemnation is is the guilt guilt is a byproduct of the law our focus it can't keep being self occupied or sin occupied it has to be Jesus occupied and Savior occupying it has to that's the good news that we preach and according to the law the shadow there was a system to cover the sin there was a system here's how the system worked it was called the day of atonement the day of atonement atonement means to cover this what would take place because people would they would sin they would make mistakes and they'd be guilty and they'd have condemnation on their life and they'd be gone I'm not enough they'd be given up and so there was this system the system was there was a high priest in the high priest would go and get a goat it was called the sacrificial goat this is all in Leviticus chapter 16 I know you skip it every year on your one year reading plan but you should read it because it's really good to read all that and go wow Jesus did all that for me is amazing so the whiticus sixteen lays it all down and and and priests would go and they did get this goat it's called it was called the the sacrificial goat and they would slaughter the goat blood really if they didn't slaughter the goat they have to slaughter you because that's the law an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth and so this goat was was gonna cover you and so they would slaughter the goat and then they would take the blood and they would go into the holiest of Holies once a year this is the place where God's presence wasn't inside there there was this thing called the Ark of the Covenant a lot of you know about it cuz you've seen Indiana Jones and um it's this golden box and on the inside of the box was three elements it was the Ten Commandments which represented God's law God's Authority God's supervision it was Aaron's rod this was the same rod that turned into a snake and this was the rod that budded in it represented God's direction and God's leadership and then there was manna which was the heavenly pop-tarts that came down in the wilderness and it represented God's provision and that's true but if you really consider all three of those things really all three of those things man rejected and in many ways they are symbols of man's sin man not measuring up because in the wilderness they were not trusting God and God sent the man and they were shocked and they tried to hang on to too much of it they disobeyed him they many times turn their back on Aaron and Moses to build a golden calf and worshipped around it they were punished for it the Ten Commandments was given because they had no guidelines and they were all over the place but on top of that Ark is this thing known as the mercy seat it's where these two angels are on top of this is holding objects and on the mercy seat on top of the sin for every mistake you make God has mercy to match the mistake on the mercy seat they would take this blood from this sacrificial goat and they would they would come and then they would they would sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat and in that moment this blood as it was sprinkled was covering their sin but didn't stop there you got to go in Leviticus 16 it doesn't always get talked about but there was a second goat it was called the scapegoat and this scapegoat they would go and they'd get this goat and then the high priest would come lay his hands on the scapegoat and all of our sins would be transferred onto that goat and they would chase that goat into the wilderness as if to say as that goat wandered off our sins wandered away with it and the system like kind of worked I want to say kind of I hope that goat doesn't come back oh my God he's back you know because no matter how many times they did this you would wake back up and make a mistake again it's like you ever try to keep a kickboard under water in a pool it's like you can do it for a little while at some point that thing's gonna come back up at some point your sin nature is gonna come out again and then once again not enough this shame guilt condemnation I can't measure up and the scripture says that these these these these animals that are being sacrificed their blood all they really did would just remind you all over over and over again that you're a sinner did it take away sins they covered sin I don't you've got a job and sometimes you can't make it to your work ship to call a friend and say yo can you cover for me you know when you say that that means yes if they answer yes that means they're gonna cover for you but that means you're gonna have to cover for them well me a better analogy some of you might not know this either but a credit card you can get those pants you want today but the credit card is just a transfer of debt like some of you really I always just thought that uh here's your problem the cards just covering you the debts still there these animals are sacrificed and their blood would cover you for a moment but it was just another moment that you would make a mistake again and all of a sudden the same feeling of not enough Nisswa come back on you guilt condemnation self occupied I can't wait til next year I'm making my list of all the things I've done wrong I gotta get right with God I got to get right with God God is perfect I am full of sin I've been separated I got to get right with God I got to get right with God and it's this fickle dance I've not a relationship but a religion there had to be a new way something had to be done and done it was John 3:16 for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life for God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world it's my favorite part through him if you have a Bible you should underline that part through him not through your performance not through your sacrifice not through your church attendance not through your pedigree not through all your good deeds and not through your merit through him God made you right through Jesus Jesus gets all the glory my favorite John chapter 1 verse when I think three times a year I referenced this passage this is John the Baptist Jesus his cousin and Jesus shows up on the scene and his ministry begins and when John the Baptist sees Jesus this is what he says he says the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said look the Lamb of God who what say who what who takes away the sin of the world now this is difficult for you tonight because we're not living under the law of Judaism and we're not dealing with the pressure that they were dealing with but I want to tell you that when John said this this is better than any introduction Steve Harvey has ever given because when John said this he said behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world everybody would have opened up their ears on whoa whoa this is some new teaching it would be like me coming and saying today I want to introduce to you the man who takes all body fat away you like what takes body fat away what what who is this takes takes it away because they want to hurt wait a minute all we know is our sins being covered all we know is temporary relief all we know is short-term satisfaction all we know is a reminder of our sins I'm wondering John you what about the sacrificial goat yo John what about the scapegoat and John's like no no you're not listen to me Jesus Christ he is the sacrificial goat and Jesus Christ he is the scapegoat that promises that when he forgets your sin he will never remember it again he does not just cover your sins he takes them away once and for all i wish i could get a witness who is thankful for the good news of jesus [Applause] he doesn't remind you of your sins it's a remission of sins sins no more we're shooting that's a good moment to come in right there your sins are taken away they're not just covered they're taken away some of you like it's almost like even as I'm preaching this right now you're kind of getting offended cuz I've been there y'all bro this is like way too good to be true it's like the gospel it's like the best news ever but rich if we keep preaching this we're like people gonna be like living crazy if they keep living crazy they have never heard the gospel receiving the gospel like my wife committing her life to me doesn't make me go home yeah party time her vows to me her love for me her deciding to say I'm gonna be with you whether you're rich or poor sickness and in health that doesn't lead me to say see a DC you made some vows I'm not to live the good life no the good life is right here and so when I'm tempted to not feel enough many times it's because I'm being reminded that I'm not enough but I have to think about exactly what John says here that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God he's the sacrificial lamb he's that he's the scapegoat he's the good news that he takes away he's removed my sin once and for all one sacrifice for all people see a lot of us I know we haven't received this teaching it because a lot of us come every Sunday and we get saved every Sunday it's because you think that your salvation is coming and going based upon your performance but like Jesus isn't gonna get back up on the cross and be see he doesn't have to sacrifice again and guess what neither do you know the new way is a remission of sins and I am cleansed and I am clean therefore I can have relationship with God not because of what I have dumble because of what Jesus has done this is the confidence that I have this is the security I have I got the substance I don't have a shadow I don't get a hint I get him as I get him my sins are removed as far as the East is to the West he remembers and no more here's the best part John Hebrews chapter 10 verse 11 let me give you let me give you jab cross here comes a hook there's a hook there's a good hook you don't use this on Wednesday day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties everyone says that works it would stand this is again and again he offers the same sacrifices which can never take away sins there's that same exact this is the exact same phrasing but when this priest speaking of Jesus had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins he sat down at the right hand of God what did he do go back go back go back what do you do what did he do he sat down at the right hand of God next next slide and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool for by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy here come here comes here comes your hook the priest stands Jesus sits priest stands Jesus sits this is Hebrews 10 priest stands because the priest is in there every year striving and working and getting stuff done and making sure people are right and they're not right okay the right they're not right cover uncovered cover uncovered holy unholy relationship no more relationship good days bad days oh my goodness this is a roller coaster home I hope Oh working striving striving but no matter what they do no matter what they do all of their religious duties all of their good behavior all of their good stuff it doesn't produce confidence it doesn't produce security it doesn't produce relationship with God but rather when Jesus Christ he came he went to a cruel rugged cross he died so that you wouldn't have to and unlike the sacrificial goat and the scapegoat they didn't have a choice in the matter Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd he laid his life down for all of us sheep and he is the son of God and when his blood was shed from that cross once and for all his blood granted us the mercy that we had always needed His grace empowers us to live the life we were called to live and now today if you're wondering what his posture is he's not standing and busy but rather he's sitting at rest you have to ask yourself a question why is he sitting rich um is he tired no God doesn't get tired good news is he lazy nope God is very active in your life regardless of what you believe is he disabled no can't let him down you would never hold him up to begin with why is he sitting well it's like at my house I got this brown leather chair I got it when I first got married probably be with me forever I love it this big brown chair and I'll Co go to work and I get stuff done I'm working really really hard and finally when I get home when I get home my first place that I go is I go right to this big brown leather chair and I sit in it why because I am declaring I'm done for the day isn't it amazing that from the cross Jesus stretched wide and hung high he did not shout out friends children strive earnestly no Buddha said that that was his last words but Jesus full of grace and truth he declared it is finished and he sat down not because he's tired not because he's lazy not because he's disabled he sat down because he's finished in our nation we have a law it's called the law of double jeopardy that if you commit a crime and you are tried for it you can only be tried once for a certain crime God has the same law that Jesus Christ when we put our faith and trust in him he takes the place and Jesus he was tried and found guilty on our behalf he who knew no sin became sin so that what so that you and I could become the righteousness of God he was condemned so you could be exonerated yet every day we feel not enough and every day we live in condemnation every day we walk in shame and guilt all we're doing is trying Jesus again but God would say to us no he has already paid the price he has already pled guilty on your behalf and because he pled guilty I now see you as innocent he will not and you will not be tried again if you put your faith and trust into him it's good news let me take it a step further because this is really good news the good news is is that Jesus he's sitting there I guess what he's doing while he's sitting that the scripture says that he's interceding on our behalf then he's like a really good lawyer because you better believe that devil has got evidence on all of us and it's true if it weren't for Jesus and the devil shows up into that courtroom and he brings to the judge evidence against me my sin my mistakes my thought life my weaknesses my shortcomings all of that which makes me not enough he says rich is not enough but Jesus Christ author Perfector and finisher of our faith without even getting up just stay seated I feel like he doesn't even say anything I feel like he just lifts his hands up and he shows the scars that declares once and for all my son Jesus he paid the price for every human being who would receive his good gifts this is the gospel that once and for all we've been saved if we put our trust in him come on if you believe it somebody give God some praise in this house [Applause]
