Rev. Mark Morgan: The Cross Walk 8/17/14

brother Morgan I'm gonna take this man preaching Apostolic Conference of what are we honored to have him here at Parkway today we're honored to have him here he's the superintendent of the California district and we're honored to have him at Parkway today let's all give brother Mark Morgan a big round of the world god bless him well the Lord said he would give you pastors after his own heart and these are according to Paul's writing these are gifts we call him ascension gifts gave him after he ascended and the Lord certainly the last and smiled on Madison when he sent the Dillon family here to raise that plan I have the utmost confidence and Dillon family and their walk with God their relationship with Jesus Christ amen and thank the Lord for them and the Morgan family our lives have certainly been enriched and blessed by our past crossing amen they are kind giving and people that carry a burden for other people that's manifest through the Apostolic Conference and for it to happen like it does and the concern amen you know when you're in the foxhole and you're on the front lines is good know somebody back home cares amen and that's what apostolic conference does it brings people in from being the frontline of battle and gives them a little reprieve and poor trying to pour back into them and the testimonies they just go on and on and on I meet people all the time somebody sent a message and I always say something about what Apostolic Conference has done for them we think the Lord for that amen may God poured on you amen pour it on him man and we think praise God all right are you ready now I got up this morning to eat little breakfast and I didn't go downstairs I all you like ham and eggs and all that I just I just eat cereal and so I got ready to eat this morning and I was out of milk so instead of eating cereal in my gift basket were something called Turtles no chocolate with the breakfast of champions and and now the problem with sugar highs is they bottom out so I'm gonna go until that sugar high lifts and it's not on it's not gonna last very long and then we're going to decide to go get something of some substance to it you might know what I'm talking about all right let's let's start here this morning Matthew chapter 16 now I'm at a little disadvantage goes right now it's all kind of jumbled up in my head so hopefully it all fall into place here in a second all right if it doesn't it's gonna be the most horrible jumble and yes I am capable of doing that amen Matthew chapter 16 verse number 24 then said Jesus unto his disciples If any man will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me for whosoever will save his life shall lose it and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it for what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul this past week of course you've already seen in the news and I bring no shame or disrespect to the family but there the Bay Area one of the very popular men had everything life could give you he takes his own life for what does it profit a man to gain the whole world yet loses so what shall a man gain in exchange for yourself for the son of man shall come and the glory of his father with his angels and then he shall reward every man according to his works everybody said amen would you let me talk to you today and when I announced this I know it's the word but when I talk to you about the cross walk not a cross walk but the cross walk Amen so let me do that amen let's pray and ask the Lord to help us this morning in Jesus name Amen father I love you I thank you for your Eternal Word I thank you Lord for your goodness and kindness thank you for these wonderful people that have gathered here this morning thank you for Parkway Pentecostal church we thank you for what they're doing not only here in Madison but we thank you for what they're doing in North America and the world we ask a special blessing to rest upon this congregation god I pray that the next few months as they go about to build that new building that there would be a supernatural peace that would prevail and this congregation I pray that there would be no glitches there'd be no hidden costs I pray God that everything would be very smooth and the blessing of the Lord would reign abundantly I also ask God that when they move into it let them move into it debt-free I ask it in the name of Jesus Christ in Jesus name in Jesus name Bay City men Welsh clap your hands before you seated and let's give the Lord another praise and adoration amen praise God may be seated god bless you in the name of the lord amen i hang on a second I won't do something here I'm gonna set the timer on this and this time I'm gonna start it I had it set Friday night and I told him when you sit down I'm gonna push the button and it starts and I had him sit down and I forgot to push the button and I didn't start till after I got into my sermon so it is officially started now I'm not telling you how long it is but it's officially started amen and when something goes the vibrating up there that's my sign stop all right all right everybody happy some of you don't look too happy this morning you ought to be happy about living for God it could always be worse I'm here with no preacher told me one time he said son it's never as good as it appears or as bad as it seems praise yes oh we still don't look happy amen well you could be lost you could a lot of stuff I have I've been a little concerned now I'm not worried about the church I'm not worried about God's kingdom I'm not he said I'm gonna build my church so God's gonna have a church and God's gonna build it and so all these people running around fretting about the church and tell me how bad the church is I'm not I'm not too worried about that now there may be some congregations we worry about maybe some people we worry about as far as the church as a whole the church is well praise God but sometimes we get some crazy ideas and some things that come around and and just some ideology and stuff and and but you know really it's nothing new it's always been around people say I'll we're fighting stuff we never fought before well that's not really true it's the same old girl she just wearing a different dress hey man we fight stuff with the Apostles falton deal with because after all the real problem the real problem is flesh flesh amen I don't settle in for a long one or a nap here it's not gonna be that long amen flash everybody say flash your battle is not so much with the devil as it is simply with your flesh I've had people tell me I had matter of fact I was in an office one time and I was a young preacher and my pastor decided that it would be good experience for me to sit in on a council session and so this this young man in the church had he started praying with the family in the church and the pray our meeting turned into a play meeting and so the husband would leave and go to work and hiddenly he'd leave his life and his hurt this prayer warrior praying together he went on the midnight graveyard shift work well that's mistake number one right there big mo amen and he just turned it to bad situation and then so so my passion was having to deal with this we called me in and I'll never forget I sitting there and my pastor just simply said well why did you feel like that you had a right to you know this and sad the Holy Ghost told me to do it and I was just like funny and I pastor than that excuse me what the sphere the Lord told me in prayer meeting that this need to happen that her marriage was on the rocks and I needed to save her and deliver her from this horrible man I'm just telling you man I I knew the Lightning was about to strike in that office I really did I was kind of backing up like oh my god he's blaming this on God now that's the first time I ever heard that one but most of the time we hear something about you know well the devil made me do it well the devil didn't make you do that he may have prompted through his system and order influence but the fact is you get yourself in trouble I wellmaybe Mississippians are different I don't know some of you acting already glorified on me right now you get yourself in trouble when you are drawn away by your own lust the first step to deliverance is owning the problem owning it now let's let's let's just kind of dive in here so first of all want to establish you know it's kind of like this it's kind of like I hear people you know they're always wanting to we're gonna buy in the Prince of the city well I'll tell you a good place to start buying your own self boy it's quiet in here this morning buying your own self that's good place to start and never forget a friend of mine he's he was in a prayer meeting one time and he he there's a guy there praying as his carnal as a billy goat and I know these guys so it makes it even better if you knew and they were all in there and they were getting real spiritual and they were getting ready to bind the Prince of the city and I don't know why I'm telling this and he praying along there they were praying along and one of those guys started commanding I command the Prince of this city to name yourself and so this carnal boy sitting over there he just starts shaking he said oh my god the names coming to me his name's coming to me man they really went fervent speak it I command the spirit of the city to name itself and this boy oh my god it's coming to me it's coming to me and finally there's a what's his name he said his name is Bob Bob flesh needless to say the prayer meeting was pretty well over and spirited murder Chuck over amen and I I realized that we talked a lot about the cross of Christ we did in Christianity we talked a lot about the cross of Christ but in our text today Jesus did not say I need you to pick up my cross I need you to pick up everybody okay I need you to pick up my head and say pick up my cross except to me and pick up his cross the the emphasis on the cross if you know anything about it the cross is not just something that is there to hang on a church wall or wherever but the fact is the cross was the emblem of death when people seen the picture of the cross they seen the cross and when Jesus referred to it they all knew that he was talking about an instrument of death amen now I want you to watch what Jesus said another reason why that and please I would never attempt to be offensive or any of that but I want I want the reason why I'm saying this is because something that was said to me one time about Christianity and people coming to God and how that people ought to come now I understand and brother don't be very careful here I understand the dynamics have grown a church and hopefully I'll explain this here in a second but the statement that was made to me was is that some of the things that we preach especially about the new birth and all very offensive to people and that we needed to quit being so abrupt with people and that people need to come and connect socially and they needed to come and find a place to fit and all this stuff and all and that and the exact statement was and if it's convenient then we will share with them the gospel and when this man said that to me I said that's exactly what Jesus said well you come hang out with me for a while let's just talk and get connected here somewhere down the road if it's convenient I'll say something to you about the cross but Jesus was very upfront in this statement he said if you're going to follow me the first thing you've got to do is deny yourself now to deny yourself and that term means to disown yourself you've got to decide at that moment that I am NOT my own anymore I am giving this up I'm giving it to him after all you are purchased you are purchased you are purchased you are not your own you have been bought with the price therefore glorify God both in your body and in your spirit now the first thing that we have to understand is now we're not talking about a police here me we're not talking about belonging to a congregation congregation the dynamics of the cleazor of the church or our fellowship it's a little different dynamics as far as I'm concerned we're talking about you being a follower of Christ if you're going to follow him the first thing that you've got to do you must resign ownership and give it to him praise God now the next thing he said is accept the man deny himself pick up his cross now he said pick up his cross and follow me now when he says that they understand those disciples understand exactly what Jesus Christ is saying except you disown except you die you cannot follow me you've got to pick up your cross you've got to follow me one other gospel says if you don't do this you are not fit to be my disciple you are not worthy to be my disciple praise God now we normally stop at that particular statement but if you'll watch down through here what Jesus says he talks about gaining the world what does a prophet if he lose your soul and then in verse number 27 he says for the Son of man shall come in the glory of his father with his angels and then he shall reward every man according to his works everybody said works now when people fail to realize there's when Jesus is talking about coming in the glory of his father he's not talking about the Trinity and him coming back with the father there with him but he's talking about the glory of God when you see Jesus coming in the glory of God you will understand at that point every man is going to be rewarded by his works it's all in the same text so in other words when Jesus said follow me follow me it wasn't just I want you to come and let's just walk together I'm gonna stand here and you're gonna stand here but basically he's given us an insight to the fact that where are we going to follow him what is our destiny what is the real purpose I think last year two years ago at Apostolic Conference I preached on his purpose well I told you then that what kind of a person gets in his car and thank God for GPS seriously thank God for GPS I'm telling you when I first started traveling evangelizing if you got anywhere either you called they you wrote the directions out and it was never it's just a mess a Amen or you went and got you one of the maps that filled up the whole dashboard when you open it of your car and you had to pull off the side of the road sit there for 20 hours it's trying to figure out how to fold it back anybody know what I'm talking about right now I'm telling you you needed a you need a PhD just to figure out how to fold the maps back together mmm you finally just crumble and throw them in the back seat and say give up and let Jesus take over amen but the fact is when you get in your car or your use of the GPS system the first thing is it always says current location at least mine does current location the reality is you can't start except at the current location I mean I don't care how much you want to be somewhere else you can only start at the current location I feel like preaching here just a little bit you can only start at the current location you can't start at somebody else's location you can't look at somebody else at a different location and say I think I'll start where they're at now there's a lot of people that need to learn that because they put it to you like this there's a lot of younger people that need to learn that because they look at the current location of elders and people in the seasons of their life and the things that they have and they say I want to start at that location well praise God I thought you'd at least say Amen you know you know yeah haze' I learned a valuable lesson it wasn't that he wasn't supposed to get the destination but the Prophet said to him is it time for you to receive and so it doesn't matter when you look around and you see other people at their current location you can't say that's where I want to start you have to start at the current location you cannot look around in the church and see other people at whatever level of maturity they are and say I want to start where they're at are you listening to me it doesn't work that away you've got to start at the your current location now I'm going to tell you where we all start if we're on the crosswalk amen now the next thing that happens in that little scenario is after you say current location and the little blue deal starts going to now we know where we're at thank God for GPS the next anybody know what the next thing is destination now the problem is we got a lot of people claiming to be Christians that I only understand current location but they don't have the foggiest idea of where they're going everybody is on this I feel like preaching to you this morning everybody is on this journey of everybody talking about the journey we're on this journey we're on this journey we're on this journey well I mean what kind of journey are you on if you don't know the destination of that journey well the deal is you don't get to determine the destination it has been predestined are you listening to me it has been predestined well it's all gonna make sense here in just a second amen matter of fact I'm not gonna go very long so just everybody relax now Romans chapter 8 because we're gonna really kind of get into Romans chapter 8 now I want you to go down to verse 28 if you don't mind all right now I know I gave you the wrong verse but I'm gonna go back to that when he was just second so I said I got how many verses you got enough and we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God to them who are the called according to you know Rick Warren wrote a great book I like the book I think it's great thank you tremendous principles nothing against the book about The Purpose Driven Life well I understand that God gives you a purpose and you have a purpose for your life but this is his purpose for you and would anybody like to know what that purpose is are we okay here this morning would you like to know who what that purpose is let's go to the next verse for whom he did now what's the word there he also did so you didn't get to pick this destination he picked it for you I think I'll preach now he picked it for you so what did he pick for you what is predetermined what is predestined not you as an individual you're not predestined as an individual this damned double Calvinistic doctrine that keeps coming around every once in a while about predestination that I actually had a man again this also I don't know want to talk about this hopefully there's none of it here but there's even some people believe predestination so strong they believe that there's even the old doctrine called serpent seed you know that that even the devil had a sexual relationship and that seed those descendants can never be saved they even go when she said you're of your father the devil and then you know the descendants that was that the sense of Cain but the sense of Abel there are the righteous descents because that's Adam and Eve had a sex relationship to producing this child is this too boring and so they they I had a man argue with me the other day in the office he said that's exactly what happened and so some of us are predetermined to be saved some of us cannot be saved because we're of the wrong seed and descendant and I said you got to be kidding me he said I'm not kidding you he said you're preaching false doctrine I said I'm preaching false doctrine he said yes you are you're preaching false doctrine I said well you can answer me one question I'll change my doctor he said what's that I said how did the bad seed get through the flood how did the bad seed get through the flood because the only people that got through the flood was the descendants of knowing the descents of Noah are the right that they're according the right seed they were righteous so they're the right seat no other human being got through the flood he's always somebody had to stay I said you're crazy everybody else except eight souls were saved the descendants of Noah were saved the bloodline people just lose their minds and go crazy and all that stuff and on then he got off into predestination so when you can answer one more question for me it is not God's will that any should perish but that all should come to repentance all so he didn't say these over here can come to repentance but these over here can't it is not God's will that any should perish but that all should come to everlasting life I'm getting distracted amen no I'm not somebody needs to hear what I'm talking about right now and when Paul determines it talks about predestination he is not talking about individual predestination that you were predetermined by God to be saved because the fact is the the damnable doctrine of predestination denies the very essence of what God is God is love and love is determined by a choice so God who is love decided to give you a choice and when you take that choice away you take away the attribute of God which God is love so you have destroyed the very essence of what God is God loves you enough to let you be lost in like that one but that's the truth now reason I'm saying that is because it's pretty well what is predetermined let's go back to that text what's predetermined now I know I know you're it's a little slow but Anglo that we might be conformed to the image of his son that he might be the firstborn among many brethren now the fact is it's not individuals that are predestined but it's the office of the role of son hip that is predestined and the only way that you can get into that is I told you the other night is you must be born again to become a son of God you've got to be born again Nicodemus except a man is born again of the water and of the spirit he cannot enter the kingdom it is the kingdom of his dear son and the only way into the kingdom of his dear son is to be translated the way to be translated going to Jesus is you've got to be born into it so you can't just pop up at church and say I'm a part of the sonship you may block them I hope this is not offensive you may be a part of Parkway Pentecostal church but the only way to get into what's been predetermined is for you to make the right choice that I want to become a son of God and I want to become a child of God are you listening now jesus said except the man is born again I know where I'm going here just trust me except a man is born again he cannot enter the kingdom he's very emphatic about it and we talked about water and spirit without going to a long deal trust me it's not about physical birth it's about spiritual things he's talking about water baptism it's in fatik and he's talking about the infilling of the Holy Ghost that's what he's talking about now the deal is when Jesus gives us a parable and I have that on my textarea you don't have to go to it on the Scriptures but the fact is he gives us the parable of the Good Samaritan about the man who fell among thieves and I need to get this substantiate so you'll know where we all start so the deal is when he makes the statement about the the parable of the Good Samaritan I feel the teaching revelation here right now it talks about that parable he makes the statement Jesus does he fell among thieves stripped of his raiment in the lost his possessions and all and was left half dead now when Jesus says that at any time Jesus says now there was a certain man trust me Jesus is not just trying to create some neat little story to get your attention he's got something in mind when he says there was a certain man he and reality is talking to you about Adam that certain man Adam fell among thieves stripped of his raiment robbed of his possessions and was left half-dead the law can buy couldn't do anything for him the priests come by couldn't do anything for him but the Good Samaritan did are you listening to me the Samaritan why the Samaritan whether Samaritans half Jew half Gentile he just back in Babylonian captivity Jesus Christ was fully God fully man what he's telling you is here he is I am The Good Samaritan and what the priest could not do and what the law could not do I'm going to bind your wounds and I'm going to heal you and I'm going to take you to the end and put you under the end keepers charge he's talking about the church the church is the end and ministry is the end keeper and he told the innkeeper whatever you spend on him above what I'm giving you don't worry about it I'll pay you back double when I come back are you listening and so why did he say he was left half-dead the reason why he says half dead is because God told Adam the day you eat the fruit of that tree you're going to die now you've got to understand that Adam was alive spiritually Adam was more spirit being than anything he had a body but it was directed I know I'm gonna get into trouble here just the best way I could tell you it's almost like Adams like you he's Holy Ghost field he's a spirit being he's got his body but yet he doesn't understand that the lusts of the flesh and all the stuff that only comes after each the tree so it's almost like he's already living some kind of a glorified state over here now we know that when he ate the fruit he didn't is this boring he didn't die spirits or physically but he did die spiritually meaning that he's dead spiritually but he's alive in the flesh or life physically he's half-dead the Bible refers to the Holy Ghost as a quickening spirit quicken means to make alive so when you receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost what should have happened is you still should be half dead it should have reversed your fleshly man should have died and your spirit man should have become alive the object until the state of glorification is you're supposed to live half dead but after you come to Jesus Christ you should be more alive spiritually than you are naturally or fleshly well it locked death right there I mean it was like air brakes going on I don't know if I believe that let's see then where you pick up your cross and you start following him what am I gonna follow him - well I'm gonna tell you what shall we say let's go to Romans chapter 6 okay time out let's see what the timer says okay I got 21 minutes left all right Romans chapter 6 what shall we say then shall we continue in sin that grace may abound god forbid how shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein no you not that it's so many of us as were now watch him now watching everybody good out there I need to put my glasses up here so I see all right as we're what into Christ were baptized into one oh except you pick up your cross and follow me let me tell you where you picked your cross up at in baptism well actually you pick it up at repentance it's real simple death burial resurrection see the problem with modern Christianity is we want resurrection but no death but you can't have a resurrection a real resurrection unless you have death and so the problem is we all just want to preach the cross of Christ but we don't want to talk about our cross meaning that for me to be a true follower of Jesus Christ I've got to pick up my cross I've got to start walking with the cross are you with me here so here's what happened you should have died repentance is death her brother would were the other they talked about the fact that one of the old Hebrew terms for repentance is you it's like going back and burning the city down there's nothing to go back to now as long as there's something still alive back there you'll go back to it if you don't believe that just watch the Egyptians in their journey they get over there and getting mad at Moses and God and everybody else say would to God we could go back we want some the fleshpots of Egypt we'd rather go back into bondage and go back into the stuff than to die out of here in this God forsaken wilderness and we have people that try to live for God and the problem is they try to live for God with things in their life that never died and if it never died you have a tendency to want to go back to it I know I'm not gonna be popular this morning that's going because it's gonna get better so therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death the only way that I can die I mean listen I said it the other night in the service sometimes we bury live people and then we wonder why they don't keep coming back to church or why they don't progress because there was no real death they never understood the prerequisite of following Jesus that they had to deny themselves pick up their cross and so they're trying to do this faith walk and live spiritually but they got this old man that never died and they got these struggles in these battles now so what happened is you in repentance it means turning around it means I'm going in that direction I own my own direction I own my life I own this but I'm gonna transfer my ownership I'm going to die right here and if I'm going to die it's got to be buried you didn't don't sprinkle it bury it it's got to be buried so when I am buried with Christ into his death see you want to be a follower of Jesus but the problem is you want to live and but that very aspect of Christianity is to be christ-like and Jesus said now I showed you how to walk this way the only things that I told you is I can only do what my father shows me Jesus Christ showed you how to live this life oh hang on we gotta hurry we gotta hurry we really gotta hurry therefore we bear with him by baptism death like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father even so we also should walk in the new sloughing of Remer jesus said when I come back I'm gonna share the glory of the Father with you right if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death here's what tickles me here's what tickles me Jesus died gave it all and you just want to give a few little things but you want to stand over here with him in the likeness of his death I died just like Jesus died oh then what's that over there alive for you me tell you how he knows if you're dead you'll try to take it trust me you can slap a corpse you can dress up a corpse whatever way you want to dress it up you can stick it with a knife or a pen it's not gonna respond anyway it's dead and when God says let's see if you're dead yeah let's try this that means if you're dead in your finances do you own it or do I own it so let me give you a little test to see if you're dead let's talk about tithe that's the first law of God testing your faith as tithing man we should have stayed in Apostolic Conference I tell you they're right now hey you know we're gonna have fun everybody's down yeah I know some of you are in pain right now let me tell you what the problem is ask the doctors or something called the death struggle you I mean there's something about this whole body people in there's a death struggle I didn't want to give up I don't care who you are from me to you there's something about this so fresh it does it want to give up now let's go back because we got okay if we've been playing together in the likeness of his death we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection verse 6 knowing this that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that henceforth we should not serve sin 7 for he that is dead is freed from sin 8 now if we be dead with Christ we believe that we also shall live with him 9 knowing that Christ being raised from the dead died the more death more dominion over him who for in him for in that he died he died understand once but and that he liveth he liveth unto God 11 likewise reckon you yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord I'm boring yang Tail now let's let's let's go he got more places here let's go over to Colossians well let's just do this alright as Paul says Kostas he said set your affection on the things above factions means set your mind on the things above not on the things of this world love the things above now you just want to tell you the destination and this is to be conformed into the image of his dear son as I preached here Friday night what a lot of Pentecostal spirit-filled people fail to realize is the true destination now I'm gonna use this term and when I use it sometimes it just passes right over but it's the state of Dora fication now let me explain to you glorification when it talks about Jesus Christ being glorified ever heard that statement I had a chemical engineer one night I was teaching on sonship in a seminar and this chemical engineer coming up after church that said brother Morgan did you know that anything that ends with an IDE or an ie D means that you've taken components fuse them together and they can never ever under any circumstances be separated again he said the glorification process of Jesus Christ is is that the flesh and the deity of Jesus Christ was now fused together well they can never be separated again so the process of your glorification which after all Paul says that you are called and you are sanctified see the calling of God is exactly that come pick up your cross I'm calling you come on pick up your cross and follow me where am I gonna follow him I'm gonna follow him after his call come follow me I'm gonna follow him through the journey in the wilderness I'm gonna follow him through the process of sanctification but ultimately Paul said I'm gonna follow him to glorification meaning that right now I've got two natures I've got a divine nature and I've got a human nature and Paul taught us that I am to mortify everyday see you think I'd went to the waters of baptism and I died there well no you died to what you knew you needed to die too but Paul said I die daily and the process of Christianity are you ready for it it's on this journey more of you and more of you and more of you is dying off not that all of you dies off initially because there's things later on on your journey with Gaza smake sense as you carry your cross jesus said that needs to die well I don't want it to die it's got to die because I'm not waiting to get you glorified you're on the process of glorification now the deal is I am to pick up my cross and follow him and the crosswalk you know where that cross is ultimately going to lead me to the ultimate cross the ultimate cross of Jesus Christ was Calvary it's where he physically died my cross is ultimately going to lead me as I've already mortify the deeds of my flesh it's going to lead me to my physical death but all of a sudden I've been planted with him and at the same spirit that raised up Christ from the dead dwelling you it's so quicken your mortal bodies and that state of glorification just simply means when I come out of the grave that this old body of mine somehow I don't know if I believe that okay I'm gonna close with one thing I want to go to Romans chapter 8 if you don't mind and I want to go to the first number five are we good I'm really starting to get hungry seriously anybody else getting hungry with me here today okay we're gonna hurry and get to the restaurant then all you spiritual folks my flesh is not quite dead yet to be honest with you I'm just thinking what you're thinking so for they that are after the flesh well let's what's the first part stay there's C you think you're the only ones got this battle with your flesh Paul so let me taste something he spends a whole chapter telling you about this battle I go to do good Eve was always present was he meaning was always present he's trying to tell you I got saved I got the Holy Ghost but I got this old flash and even though I got the spirit trying to operate and work I got this old flesh of mine it's still there still causing me trouble right so he spent the whole chapter seven but when he gets to eight he says there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who watching who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit I've left off big chunks of this whole study today because the whole thing is about walking it's walking with your cross and Paul said there even those who are not walking according to Christ and he constantly gets into this deal whose bellies become their gods meaning their inner cravings their fleshly cravings have become their God their fleshly desires have become their gods and they have become enemies of the cross and what's everybody say enemies who do mind earthly things don't watch this let's let's go to here we're close five let's go to five well for the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death for what the law could not do that it was weak through the flesh God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin condemned sin in the flesh that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled and us now watching who walk who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit for they now here we go for they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh but they are but they that are after the spirit the things of the Spirit now remember Paul said set your affection on things above set your mind on things above what are things above you me tell you what things are above Paul told you the prize of the high calling you what it is Paul was looking beyond where he was at he's already saying in that statement I'm already perfect in a lot of areas but he said but I'm looking beyond this to Christ and his glorification and for me to become like that right there is the prize of the high calling that is what he's calling me to and so Jesus listen to me is standing at the state of glorification looking at you and saying come on I'm calling you to this now follow me right right now for they that after the flesh do mine and here we go six hurry for the be carnally minded there it is now that word right there and minded is the same Greek word for affection set your affection on things above and not on the things of this earth same word same Greek word for to be carnally minded to be carnally affection is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace now are we good are we okay seriously now the word carnal comes from the same root that you get carnivorous meaning flesh eater so what Paul is saying is is you people that have been spirit filled you are now becoming fleshly minded you are craving fleshly thinks your mind has now got on fleshly things and you're creating an appetite for it you're creating a desire for it is this too heavy seriously I really want priests and faiths for something but but now this looks closer to get ready closer down here verse seven because the carnal mind is enmity that means hostile against God you take the most dangerous people in the whole world it's not sinners sinners have a none regenerated mind see when you were when you were filled the Holy Ghost and life came what it should have affected was how you think it should have the nature of Jesus Christ the nature of God should have come in you and affected how you think and you should have started thinking and having desires for spiritual things but what happens is if you don't feed that and walk toward it and let that become your appetite then you start turning you start seeing fleshly things and instead of doing this you do this and the more you do carnal things what happens is ultimately is that spirit mind of yours dies and carnally minded people are people who have received the baptism of the Holy Ghost but then turn and started eating fleshly things again creating a carnal mind therefore ultimately being spiritually dead again those are the most dangerous people because they sit in church they have no cross in their life anymore they don't say no to anything of the flesh anymore and they just keep consuming and keep carnal things worldly things until ultimately the spirit within them which is the new man says I can't survive here and then they become spiritually dead and when you're spiritually dead Paul said to the Corinthians I have not seen your hath not heard neither entered into the hearts of the minds of men the things that God has prepared for his people see without a spirit mind without the Holy Ghost you can't think it you can't see it you can't even hear it but we got people sitting around under the guise of Christianity that are dead spiritually and you can talk spiritual things and Paul said the only thing that understands the Spirit is the spirit and the spirit calleth to the deep things of God for they are spiritually discerned now if you start talking about worldly things you get their attention real fast you start talking about the deep things of God and you start talking about spiritual things pardon my expression there is lost as a goose and hailstorm they're looking at you like huh now they've named the name of Christ and they've even received the Holy Ghost and they may have started with the cross but somewhere along the lines they decided to lay the cross down which is death to the flesh and they started letting that old man become owner again let me close three minutes and 12 seconds right on track now here's the deal you ready for it we still good let me let me give you a good example of that all right when he lied you went on the other side of the Elijah and he got raptured see Jordan represents death to your will so when he when he come back on the other side he you know he watches he lies you get raptured but he comes back on the other side and the guys from the school of the prophets is sitting there and you know if they said whoa some kind of dust storm over there they call it a dust storm because that's all they say was a bunch of dust dirt debris flying like a tornado but if of course that's the way you perceive spiritual things if you're on the wrong side of Jordan it's just confusing and dirty and dusty and bunch of wind blowing but when you're on the spiritual side of Jordan you see the fiery chariots and the horsemen thereof and prophets being taken and mantels falling see you can have people set in a church service and somebody leave going oh my god wasn't that powerful I mean did you see the mantle fall and somebody set right next to us what are you talking about it's just a bunch of wind bunch of wind blowing and a bunch of dirt let me ask some of you sitting here today so have the Holy Ghost of wallow what happened to your spiritual appetite what did you start feeding things of the flesh to and creating a stronger appetite until that old spirit man died now you still got the trappings and you still play the part but the question is is your spirit man alive you're gonna be half dead one way or the other you're either gonna be dead to the spirit and alive to the flesh or alive to the spirit and dead to the flesh until until you get to glorification and then when God says you don't believe that read on down through the eighth chapter because Paul says this is the adoption to wit the redemption of our bodies he's talking about when this old body goes through the Grace and it comes out on the other side of glorification see the spirits redeemed but the body is not and that's your battle between your spirit in your body and whichever one your feed is going to rule well how do I overcome it what do I do well it's real easy ready for it Paul understood the problem he understood the whole situation and this is what he said he said here's the only way that you're going to survive with the infirmities of your flesh or the weaknesses of your flesh for likewise the spirit also helpeth our infirmities God says okay I gave you the we okay we still good it's about to go off see when he said to the Corinthians he said from glory to glory remember first second Corinthians 3:18 we up with open face beyond the glory is in a glass we look we see him and are changed into the same image by his spirit so see God gave you the Holy Ghost because he said without the Holy Ghost of my spirit I cannot conform you or change you into looking like me over there so I've got to allow the spirit to do its work and the only way see I didn't lie to mm and so the only way for that to happen is you have to learn to let be ready you have to learn to let the Holy Ghost have active ministry in your life and you have to learn not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God or quench the spirit that's within you because if you listen to that spirit man that's alive he'll tell you not the preacher not the UPC not a manual but the Spirit will tell you no don't do that yes I like that no I don't really care for that and if you learn how to quench that and not listen to that you'll keep pushing that far enough behind so that voice will die in you and you'll be so currently minded you're not subject to any law you become your own law the carnal mind becomes its own law and then you learn out of your carnal mind how to go around verses that you know you ought to obey you learn out of the carnal mind how to reason and find some argument on the Internet to deny things that you ought to do because after all that carnal mind you're not hungry for spiritual things you got a fleshly appetite and instead of going on to the promised land which is the glorification what you want to do is you want to go back to Egypt you want to go back to the house of bondage and start eating out of the fleshpots of Egypt again here's how you win for likewise the spirit also helpeth our infirmities for when we know about what we should pray for as we ought the spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered and Here I am trying my best didn't have a spiritual mind and sometimes in my flesh I don't even know what to pray for I don't even know what my battling but the spirit does and we get to that glory by the holy ghost and see when you start praying in the spirit that old flesh of yours starts getting pushed down in the spirit you know what he says praying and the Holy Ghost building up building up building up your most holy faith if you don't learn how to pray in the spirit and pray in the Holy Ghost and knock that carnal man down and knock that fleshly man down to where the spirit can breathe Express and have life and to itself trust me you'll never make it because there's too many struggles with the flesh too many battles with the flesh but oh when the great intercessor himself steps up and says I'm gonna pray for you I've come to help you with that battle I've come to help you with that struggle I don't think I can go on any further you're right in the flesh you can but in the spirit and the Holy Ghost when the great intercessor himself in that would eat Oh Peter Peter I have prayed for you that your faith with failing not and when you don't know how to pray and you don't even know what the mind of God is that Holy Ghost in you that spirit in you says let me live let me breathe let me do what I was sent to do you can't survive and you can't make it on your own you've got to let me do what I need to do and somebody here today you've taken just about all you can take and your own flesh is about to take over and your own mind is about to rule but the Holy Ghost today says let me breathe let me breathe let me do what I need to do for you right now see here where you at listen to me listen to me when God cursed the devil he sit on your belly you go and dirt you'll eat there's not a snake on the face of the earth that literally eats dirt there wasn't some serpent that he was cursing it was your enemy he said in dirt you'll eat and you know what Paul said you are you're nothing but dirt this old body of decay you know what that means you're worm food you're going back to being dirt and God told the enemy the only way you can rule over them and is through their dirt or through their flesh but if they ever learn how to live in the spirit you have no dominion and you have no power over them so somebody today just needs to let it go whoa anybody here today just I won't let the spirit express itself come on anybody here today won't let the Holy Ghost intercede you weren't the Holy Ghost speak anybody here anybody here come on lift your hands right now and just cry out to God let the Holy Ghost do it right now let the Holy Ghost do it right now let the Holy Ghost do it right man let the Spirit of God do it right now boy so be loud hey if you'll open and let it hit a prey through you right now somebody needs to pray in tongues here a little bit somebody needs to let the Holy Ghost pray through you right now that's where you special your Street comes from that's where you build up your faith you strengthen the inner man you
