section down below and get yourself one pretty cool radio so let's check it out the retus TR 635 um so Dimensions really quick we are 8 and 3/4 in in length that includes from this side to the tuning knob we have a height with the handle down of 5 and 38 of an inch and when this handle is fully extended up it is 7 and 1/4 in from top to bottom that the case depth of 2 and 3/4 in that includes the front volume knob to the back of the radio very cool all right let's do a quick size comparison I always like to have a little culprit handy I'm just going to bring that up out of FR a pretty big radio I'm trying to get it all in the frame okay so we have CC pocket in the house here we are I think that's the correct time but there you go cool and then next we have CC skywave in the house nice it's right there in the metal speaker girl area love that and then of course deck of cards Iron Man he's the man with the master plan he can rock it like no one can he loves her attas from can you guess it China land yeah China land all right we rock I have fun with Thea cards so yeah let's talk about features of the Rus TR 635 and what you get with it so first of all when you unbox the radio it comes pretty nicely packaged sty from ends plastic bag around it to protect it even has a little peel sticker here for the window so they take attention to detail when they pack it you get an AC cord which is nice so if you don't need to batteries you just got to plug into the house like uh in the garage or in the kitchen you're off ready to go or buy your beds side nice so we got the AC cord you get your instructions awesome shortwave radio instruction manual yeah I think it's pretty basic I'll just flip it real quick and see I'll cover everything I mean it's pretty simple actually yeah as you can see it's like couple pages of instructions so you got schematic diagram going on what each thing means get the idea right over here we got product specifications it shows our FM band medium Wave band which can be changed from 10 khz to 9 khz short wve coverage from 2.3 MHz to 2119 it's actually kind of nice uh if you're in a short wave listening this isn't a radio that excels at shortwave it does it okay but it's not something you're going want to use it fulltime with there's your extra little stuff there it's going to go slowly so you can read it all and like I said this manual is almost done this is our last page here again very basic and that's it cool that's the manual I love how quick that went all right so yeah feature wise let's check it out so yeah it's made in durable Plastics and put together very strongly uh doesn't feel chintzy at all um that is nice to pick it up feels solid there's no creaking in the cabinet here is our AC input on the left side now that is nice I do like how this is done it's a narrow radio so having it out the side is better than out the back because uh typically we have it on narrow shelves and that's perfect going to the form of the radio as you can see the left side's dominating by the speaker here uh the open area has 3 in so it's probably a 4in speaker if you measure to the tabs Rus yeah again metal speaker girl looking nice I like the black treatment looks cool and they got their name tag really cool there too loving it again you saw the handle which we'll show you in a moment but we have a display now this display I'm not a fan of um it's sharp you know One Direction like this it's 11:39 p.m. at central daylight time I'm near Chicago Chicago Illinois USA for sake of some band scans CU we'll go through the radio and see what it can pick up uh pretty quickly but you can see uh it shows the clock and you can change that by hitting this button here pressing hold and it'll go 24hour now the thing is see how bright that screen is when I tilt it here you can't even see it so during this review video um once in a while I'll tip it to show you but to be honest with you you're going to see a white screen and that's kind of what I see right now you know looking without looking in the camera so it's one thing I don't like about it you can't turn that led and it's so bright I don't know why they did that it's super bright I guess for the elderly that have a hard time scene it's about the only thing I could think of but uh yeah we'll put our clock back to 12 hour mode there you go so pretty much it's just a clock there's no alarm on this radio so yeah there's that white screen that you get to see okay so time set button you saw the setting button to set the clock from 12 to 24 hours press and hold while the radio's off when you're in uh medium wave am. mode uh you can change your am stepping from 9 khz to 10 khz by pressing and holding that same button while the radio is on in that band here we have pause play now I thought they had they had an MP3 player in it or Bluetooth but no it doesn't even though it looks like it does it it doesn't it's pretty interesting uh so pause play this is pretty much just muting the audio uh ATS of course autotune storage system press and hold and it will search and store any station it finds I believe you have 100 presets per band giving a total of 300 presets that's on the radio that's quite a bit uh pretty impressed now I don't know it for a fact cuz it doesn't have it printed in the manual but I did ATS on FM today uh and I got 62 stations with just a whip antenna shows you how good the FM is on this thing we have a previous we have a next uh these are for navigating presets by quickly pressing them and if you want to browse at the radio you press and hold and it'll start browsing in that direction we have our volume on off control turns the radio on jamming down here we have our band select switch it's rotary knob we have FM medium wave shortwave I think there is an indicator showing you what you're on yep little Notch there Rock cool over here we have a high low tone control which does make a difference and I will try to demo that as well what you heard music- wise was my radio toer which we're going to get to in a moment right inside of the radio we have a tuning knob which is notched so it's an endless encoder um it's okay um you can do some fine tuning because I think FM is 50 khz steps yeah it's amazing you can't change that so you have to really move this dial to get through the uh FM band headphone jack headphone experience now when you plug in headphones uh you're going to have a varying experience with a tone control switch it makes a big difference on FM uh there's no stereo unfortunately expect strong lows moderate mids strong highs of course strong lows go away when you switch the tone control from low to High We noticing the am or shortwave expect a nice low tone tone when you're on low mode and a bright neutral tone when you're on the high tone mode so overall great experience except there is a low-l hiss uh so if you listen to your volume at low volume setting you're not going to be happy with that we have an antenna input now that's great if you're using it uh for FM for shortwave there is medium wave breakthrough unfortunately if you use a very long wire I use a 22t wire which isn't that long I still got medium wave breakthrough which is kind of a bummer but I still got normal short wave stations as well top of the station or top of the station top of the radio we have our fold out handle I'm all in the shortwave station thing still thinking about that okay lot I want to talk about yeah folds up folds down but does hang out the back we have our whip antenna which comes up and extends out to 25 12 Ines nice and of course it pivots 360 using that hooking it up and then in the back here and then we'll get to turn this radio on so here's a little tag showing all our frequency information okay running an AC or DC vented area probably for the Transformer and then on the front here I don't want to set it on the knob let's see if I can get this open there we go we got three diesel batteries oh yeah that's nice to see now I just reviewed a ratty radio uh similar amfm shortwave similar size and everything but it ran on four AA batteries and that for such a big speaker you could watch the battery level dropping as as the music was being played so it wasn't this is way better 3D cell smart move I like that so if R's watching this they're going to want to rethink that strategy and go Dells especially in radio that's large um so rock him uh so we'll talk about FM reception then we'll get this thing turned on FM reception report I always like to talk about FM reception um five tier method Fair okay good very good excellent so fair okay good very good excellent most radios are okay to good category this is a DSP radio Digital Signal processor um it's not the best out there but it's very sensitive on FM which I was impressed with it found 70 stations giving it a solid good rating um also selectivity I was going to give it an okay to good rating but I gave it a good rating because of its sensitivity it was able to find those fainer stations but once you gets to some strong stations it will kind of obliterate stations next to it so something to keep in mind when you're using this radio it can be good or bad depending on your location but uh I had a great time with the FM it's Where It Shines on this radio um so yeah that's it so let's go ahead and turn this on we'll do a demo couple minutes radio tobert so yeah it's hard to get real low volume there we go using a FM transmitter on 977 mehz there you go there's my transmitter I got a MP3 player hooked up Mo this over can see what's playing [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] 765 4 32 1 you'll never have the sacred stone oh this you crazy mother a [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] a [Music] there you go Okay cool so let's go ahead hook up the antenna here uh I have a little short wave antenna that works good on FM and uh shortwave now the cool thing is if you hook it to the whip we may not get that Medium wave breakthrough that's why I'm hooking it to the Whip and not to the antenna Jack area but if you're using FM uh and you have a wire Str outside definitely use the Jack because the FM just things it's absolutely amazing the sensitivity and reception you're going to get with the FM with the antenna Jack just to let you know short wave not so fantastic but with FM it's it's where it's at so we're going to go ahead and uh I think we're going to go yeah we're going to go to short wave and you can't read it I can't read it have to tilt this up what it say 4840 okay so we'll we'll start at 4840 now there's no way to meter band which is a bummer so you have to do an ATS which takes forever on this radio so like I said you're probably going to use it for short way of listening 3 weeks before the worst attack on Jew since the Holocaust so here's 4840 to continue funding Hamas we can hit the bux button our presets there we are this is wwd just coming through I can hear [Applause] it look at our current time there you go I think this is a couple minutes off 1150 and that now you're going to hear something interesting with this radio or on a low signal like if the signal comes in it's like strong and then weak strong and then weak you'll hear it soft muting and then it going away completely and coming back it's it's really abrupt and it's not nice I'm not a fan of it all right [Applause] for like the garden did God really say so let's go out and collect more and let's see what happens well worms and maggots came out of if you if you took more than you needed so it's almost like you know God's got a really good sense of what we we are the ones who are skewed in our thinking then the children of Israel by the way um they figured out real quickly when God said Gather an OM you gather an OM don't don't do Beyond God's word what he says so I [Music] think for as as God moves in a prophet speaks to my mouth reveals things to my heart because that's the way God speaks to his people he speaks to the mouth of prophets that tuning it down or philosophy of the church fathers education who were mostly men influenced by what's known as neoplatonism a new form of Plato who taught about second uh [Music] the so I can hear it soft muting hard muting and then coming back on volume which is really rapidly doing it so I don't know if they can adjust that uh with a value I don't know if I'm used to some DSP radios handling it much better than this again it's on a very signal strength we're almost through there's 10 MHz it's going nice and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] clear okay let's shoot over to FM here and uh see what happens I'm just going to leave it laying down because it's too much of a hassle bringing it back up and down we'll gool through the FM band know I'm near Chicago Illinois and then when I get to the am band we'll see what's going on there so FM is interesting too if if you have your whip antenna and you're using that and you're not using a wire um you'll find that the station sounds okay and then you'll move it and also it'll come in really loud and it'll like the game will go way up and you'll hear it it sounds great but then the volume goes way up so they got adjust the volume really quick so yeah there's something to do with the gain control on on the radio um it's not a bad thing but it's not the great thing so okay let's go ahead and we are going to go to the bottom of the band let's go see my presets are at so yeah I I think I did a just a wire here I found 47 downstairs here I'm going a subfloor basement by the way that's why I'm using the little wire it only goes to my window doesn't go outside the house so it's always good to be by near a window okay so we'll be at the bottom of the band Let's see we get 70 75 there we go all right I'm we'll just uh go up the presets with John Mark groi is next on ew my name is Rich wsel and I'm the going to pick up distance stations it it does really well on faint signals it's if they stay faint you can listen to them but if they start to come in strong and go faint then you get that back and forth uh sound which is just annoying you know the AGC not working just too quick um hopefully we'll get another example on am bam with that note to Republican candidates want to use Trump in your okay so let's uh just do final thoughts on the retus TR 635 is it a recommendation this thing gets a big maybe uh not a bad not a up it's it's a maybe because uh I'll be honest with you if you live in an urban area this is perfect this radio is for you totally if you live in a suburban area towards the urban area still radio for you if you live in a Suburban rural area like me not for you uh this radios you know you pretty much are limited to FM and maybe shortwave but uh am band you heard what it does is kind of annoying and those intermediate uh signals unfortunately um but uh that that's what it is um I do like the Audio I like the fact you can plug it in with the AC chord 3D Cel batteries fantastic it is a nice display you can see it ex except it does wash out that is a problem I don't like that it's too bright so if you're teas if you're watching this the display can be like changed or turned off I almost thought that could do that there um if you could just turn that off for the tuning session that would be nice um then you can I can see everybody else can see what's going on um tone control is okay uh I like the low and high it is Handy in a lot of instances so I think I left it on eye the whole time we were on a medium Wave band Big volume control and the big tuning knob uh they're very handy um you like using it that is nice um so like I said it's a maybe hope you uh enjoyed the presentation of the TR 635 and you can figure out if it's for you or not like if for 26 bucks I don't see it being a really hard purchase to make if you just want a shop radio you're not really worried about dxing on short wave or going crazy on medium wave just going to have as an FM pretty much and maybe some strong medium wave stations like some local sports stations yeah think there's a 604 don't quote me on that number but uh there's a amfm uh with the uh analog dial versus the digital but I think it's the same price so you might be getting a value here uh because you get the presets plus you get the digital screen and you're getting the clock too as well so some things to keep in mind and of course AC adapter just plug in the cord and off you go so all righty
