measure could be adopted within the next month. >> One of America's major retailers with three famous chains of stores are all enlisting police proven technology to try to stop the $100 billion plus annual loss from shoplifters and organized criminals. KTVU Tom Vacar joins us now with what the retailers and consumers are saying. Tom it's a sad sign of the times, but retailers are in a major fight with theft, and they're using all legal tools they can. >> The most important question, though, what a customers think. The TJX companies, TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Home Goods are equipping some employees with police like body cams to help cut store theft, as well as record confrontations with thieves. >> It benefits everybody, really, if, if they can cut down on some of the organized crime and retail theft that's been going on. >> TJX sent written statements. Body cameras are currently used by certain loss prevention associates who've gone through thorough training on how to use the cameras effectively in their roles. Video footage is only shared upon request by law enforcement or in response to a subpoena. We hope that these cameras will help us de-escalate incidents, deter crime, and demonstrate to our associates and customers that we take safety in our stores seriously. I don't necessarily think it will help much in terms of preventing crime, but it might just help with prosecuting it honestly, I, I feel like people, if they're in need of something, they're going to take it. Security experts I spoke with say there are four downsides professional criminals are not intimidated or deterred by body cams. Body cams do not necessarily prevent assaults. Many people believe the justice system will just let thieves go, and some honest customers may be offended by body cameras. >> It's time for us to band together as citizens and stop worrying about whether or not someone's privacy is concerned when there's so much more at stake. >> The upside if there is a lawsuit, this camera is serious proof of what happened. This is part of the War on Crime store closures, lost retail jobs and the higher prices. Those who don't steal pay for this is an issue. >> The industry that our our lawmakers, our local communities, as you mentioned, Department, Department of Homeland Security, we need to work together to solve this issue because we need to keep prices low for our customers in other words, marshal the forces, protect the price of those home goods, and do it
