There are few things that I found sub-optimal. As kamisori user, seeing edge being sharpened with 12k grit soft pad gave me goosebumps. These pads bend slightly when pressure is applied and in time will round off the edge requiring more material to be taken off during next sharpening to achieve the same edge and shorten the lifespan of the tool. Whetstones and oilstones are best for these kind of blades.

I strongly recommend reading Honing Razors and Nihonkamisori by Kouske Iwasaki from famed Iwasaki razors. He covers pretty much everything from honing, edge maintenance, drying to choice of sharpening stones and stropping. A bit hard to follow and read since book is a translation from a very old document with old Japanese language, but it's worth it.

free handing any material on a belt sander like that is not really smart.
