[Music] [Music] so welcome back to my channel today we're creating three designer dupes on restoration hardware and cb2 decor so let's get started and let me show you how you can create these designer dupes at an affordable price the first project was inspired by the cb2 chain link decor as you can see they run anywhere from 139 dollars to 299 what you need for this project is a dog toy from dollar tree some vinyl spackle some tape and paint the first step is to take your tape and wrap it around all of the links i wrapped tape around the links because spackle won't stick to the rope toy [Music] now this step is a little bit messy but take your spackle and apply it to your chain links [Music] [Music] before your spackle dries use a wet brush or even your fingers to smoothen out the spackle for the next step i decided to switch to lightweight spaffle because i felt like it was much easier to work with once your first layer of spackle dries go in with the lightweight spackle and fill in any cracks or missing pieces you can see on the right how the lightweight spackle begins to smoothen out the shape of the links before this layer of spackle dries i just used a wet sponge brush to smooth out the surface now use sandpaper or a sanding block to smoothen out the surface you could keep working on this as long as you'd like i did go back with a little bit of lightweight spackle and a wet paint brush and filled in a few more gaps that i wasn't too happy with but after a while you could definitely get a nice smooth surface and the last step is to paint your chain links i would recommend using a glossy paint because matte does show a lot of the imperfections and it also leaves marks behind when they rub together overall i'm super happy about how this came out when it's sitting out on your coffee table nobody will notice the imperfections and i only spent three dollars to make it not including any materials i already had the next project was inspired by these weathered stone spheres from restoration hardware as you can see they range anywhere from 65 to 125 dollars each for this project you will need two to three different sized spheres i'm using epsom salt to get all that nice texture i'm also going to be trying some of this textured paint that i picked up at michael's and i'll be using mod podge and some paint as well as sponge brushes the first step is to apply a light layer of paint to cover up the color of your ball [Music] then i applied some mod podge to my ball and rolled it around on a plate of epsom salt painting your textured spheres is going to be a layering process i began with some dark browns and dark grays and just dabbed all around the ball it's okay if it's uneven or not perfect [Music] once that layer dried i went in with an off white and light gray and here is my version of the textured fears it only cost me about five dollars to make the next project i've been really excited to make these paper mache bowls come from restoration hardware and range from 175 to 295 you can also see that i found other paper mache bowls online for 218 what you need for this project is some water plastic wrap and paper mache which i picked up at hobby lobby a bowl of your choice i decided to go with one that wasn't as deep but had a nice wide opening and it's optional but you could also paint your bowl at the end the first step is to cover your bowl with plastic wrap this step is important because the paper mache will stick to your bowl once it dries [Music] the first thing i did was take about a third of the bag and pour it into a bowl i do have to warn if you've never used this before it's very dusty you can follow the instructions on the back of the bag but i took about two cups of water and just mixed it into the paper mache until i got a play-doh consistency mix it up really well because any dry paper mache won't stick and it will crack later on now begin putting your paper mache onto your bowl make sure your layers are nice and thin because this does take a few days to dry then continue placing your paper mache all over the bowl i decided to roughly put down the paper mache then go back with wet hands and smoothen everything out [Music] now most of the inspirations that i looked at did have a little detail around the edge so i decided to add that as well as a little base to my bowl i created this one and a half inch thick edge by just placing the paper mache down and smoothing it out as i went remember these bowls are meant to look very handmade so it's okay if they're not perfect my bowl took about three days to dry so don't worry while you're working with it you have plenty of time to smoothen it out and here is the edge i created for my bowl once it was all nice and smooth next we're going to be creating a base for the bowl i made this donut hole shape and place it on the bottom then smooth it all out creating a donut hole allows it to dry much quicker now that you're almost done take your wet hands and go through again and get rid of any imperfections smoothing everything out to make it just how you want it after the second day of allowing it to dry i wanted to see how wet it was so i placed my two thumbs between the bowl and the paper mache and i pushed up to slightly release the bowl this did cause a little bit of damage around the edge but i was able to easily fix it you can see how the wettest areas are where the thickest paper mache is what i did was just place a fan on my bowl and allowed to dry for one more day finally after three days of drying i used my sanding block to smoothen out any surfaces paper mache dries nice and hard so don't be afraid to sand it down here is my version of the paper mache bowl and it only cost me seven dollars to make not including any materials i had at home [Music] if you loved today's video please give me a big thumbs up and subscribe to my channel this year i'll be doing many more designer dupes hacks and tricks for your home decor thanks for watching
