so I really like old shutters and if I see them and you know garage sales or thrift stores for a good price I'll pick them up and I always think someday I'll do something with them so that's what I plan to do in today's video is just a few projects that I have in mind that I want to do with the shutters behind me here but before we get into that in case you're new here welcome my name's Mary and here on YouTube I love to share the many projects I have going on around here with you all [Music] oh [Music] so join me as I work on creating some things with my stash of shutters and enjoy so the first thing that I'm going to do is take this tallest shutter apart these sections are screwed together and what I plan to make is a little shelf to hold cups and saucers and I do want the most narrow shutter that I have and it happens to be this one so I'm going to take it apart and just use a section of it since I also have a plan to use shutters that are hinged together I'm going to save the one part for that and just cut the section off that I want for my shelf [Music] [Music] so for this shelf I plan to add braces on the bottom here to you know hold it in place and then I want to screw some hooks into the underside to hang a teacups and then I had a vision for the top to actually stick plates or saucers in here so I brought one out just to see if it would actually work I wasn't sure would I need to cut some grooves in here to you know hold them in place and I'm really quite impressed with how well they're held in place by just sticking them into the slots so I think that'll actually work I'm going to go ahead and sand it kind of get rid of some of these holes here whatever will be exposed maybe putting them give it a Fresh coat of paint and then add those braces and hooks so the next step was painting and I of course waited until I had all my projects ready to paint I took them outside on the driveway and used my paint sprayer to do this I didn't necessarily get a separate video of me just painting this particular shelf but everything got done at once I used do it best brand paint thinned it down a bit and ran it through my sprayer this is something I normally do in the summer time so this was really fun for me to be outside and painting the weather was half decent it was kind of windy and a little bit chilly but it worked [Music] foreign [Music] foreign for the next project I plan to use the shutters that are hinged together and create a corner shelf I'll probably sand the shutters down get rid of any dirt and then paint them probably white and then for the actual shelf part which will be little wooden triangles you know fit it into here probably three or four of them I plan to just use the natural wood maybe stain it so the nice thing about this saw I've mentioned this before is that it actually has a light on the top if I hit the one switch on the top where the handle is it will a light will come on and then cast a shadow wherever the cut line will be so especially for angles like this that's really handy I can see exactly where it's going to cut [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign so here I'm using my air nailer to fasten the shelves [Music] for this next idea I'm going to create a little sign to hang on the wall and I went ahead and cut my shutter off right here and then I also cut out a section of this wide part and I plan to use this on this end so what I do is remove a few of these shutter parts and add this piece in here of course remove these little end pieces and just pipe in or nail this little section in here to create a more Square sign and this will make more sense as I actually do it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] thank you so as I'm working with these shutters I decided to try to use up all of the sections and anything that I didn't have a plan for I'm just basically turning into little signs like this of course putting sanding and then painting I didn't get a video of all of this but I ended up applying these Decor transfers that I've been kind of obsessed with lately onto the sections of these shutters and I love how it looks I do want to mention it does make a difference on how your shutter slats are facing like downward or upward whether it's going to look okay then or I think it looks better if they're kind of facing down and out it's hard to explain in a video but hopefully you can tell in the video how I'm doing it here the first one that I did I turned like the slats were turned the other way and the design just doesn't look as great there's white spaces in between each cut that I had to make and if the slats are facing this way you don't notice it as much [Music] foreign foreign [Music] thank you I decided I'm going to go ahead and distress some of the edges on these shutters I think that would really add a lot of character to it [Music] I want to finish these little signs off using Annie Sloan clear wax it will protect the images and at the same time give it a nice hard smooth matte finish foreign I gotta say I love how these signs turned out and I plan to sell them on the Etsy shop so if you're at all needing a one-of-a-kind Unique Piece for your home check them out and I also want to mention I still have some shutter pieces out in the shop so I may end up turning those into little signs too so if you don't get the chance to buy one of these and you really want one stay tuned because I might add some more later on so for this section of shutters these are also screwed together I will unscrew them separate them so what I have in mind for this shelf is possibly a just a floor shelf or one that you could hang on the wall but both sides would be the shutters and then for the back part I wanted old wood and I'd possibly even create a sign you know add a word or something on the back um just to make it you know just to add some character to it and the actual shelves will be a shutter also and here I'm just measuring to see how wide I need them to be so for the shelf that I plan to use this old wood as the backing I'm going to add add a large word on it and here I'm at the desk and I have The Cameo beside me here and I plan to just quickly design something really simple and then cut it out with the Cameo and apply it to my wood we'll see how it goes [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] random words here of course but I think if I'd have a farm this would be the name of it [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] for the stained shutter I plan to create a centerpiece for our kitchen table I've been wanting something kind of like this you know the wooden look being that our table is white and would really pop and I will probably end up maybe applying a white glaze or something to it and maybe some character such as old you know hinges or knobs or something but for now I'm just removing the hardware and then I actually want to straighten it out as far as I want to get rid of this Arch that is on the top [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] here I'm mixing some paint and water together pretty much equal parts creating a white wash that I plan to brush onto the stained shutter [Music] foreign [Music] first I started out with a wet rag and I soon saw that it would actually take too much off but I'm still going to keep it close by just in case I want to have a little more control of how much is put on here but I think a dry rag is actually going to work better [Music] to finish this piece off I'm going to add this pretty Rusty looking Medallion that someone had sent me once I'm going to glue it onto the one end of the shutter using E6000 glue [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] I'd love to hear some of your ideas on what to do with old shutters I would still have a few of my own but just kind of ran out of time here for this video but feel free to leave your thoughts Down Below in the comments section I feel we can always learn from each other down there and get new ideas and new inspiration but so much fun it's probably one of my favorite things to do like I often say you know taking old unused unwanted items and turning them into something beautiful and useful again so rewarding before ending here I wanted to show you some of the soap that we have back in stock for the Etsy shop and many of you have discovered it already but I thought I'd give it a shout out on here we'll leave the valley is back this is probably still one of my favorite scents I just love it I love the name of it and the color and of course the scent it's one of my favorites and we also have a guy's line which I say guys I think anybody could use this because they smell amazing like I'd use it for myself but we always change the labels up a bit we go with a different font for the the more guy sense and I think they turned out really pretty and they smell amazing too this Gardener soap is back in stock also one of my favorites smells and looks amazing I think and then a few other nuisance Island hibiscus strawberry lemon which I think we had that last year but there's so many more I don't have them all with me here but we are busy making soap my cousin Susie of course does a wonderful job with most of it and then in my spare time I make some too and I have some new soap coming up soon here that I've been making in our basement can't wait to share that but that's for another video and in case you missed the announcement we do have the spring and summer candles available so make sure to check that out thanks guys for watching as always I hope your day is going great and I'll see you in the next one bye
