yeah with another video from season and this time is about driving and renting a car in Sicily I've been doing that for the last four weeks I'm really really love it I will tell you all about driving you know how is it driving in Sicily is it crazy is it a good idea to actually drive into the major cities how is the parking and how is the petrol can you give me a tip for a cheaper price yes I can but look up to the end of the video because I will also tell you the comparison full comparison between taking public transportation and driving a car which one works better [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] let's start straight away with an important subject what about the driving license short story short if you are from Europe absolutely fine you can use your license if you are from outside Europe you need an international license if you are from UK it's a bit of a foggy situation at the moment after brexit but also in this case you need an international license now in saying that if you renters probably can give it to you even with an American Australian or UK license and it's all fine you know but you're gonna risk it to the last second baby change their mind or if you have an accident the insurance doesn't pay [Music] driving side Sicily like Italy and most of Europe except UK they drive on the right side so if you're used to the left side just keep it in mind and my suggestion here is to try to go with the flow try to follow at least in the first days other cars driving so you're gonna stay on the right if you're alone you tend to go on the left I live in Australia for example I'm used to driving on the left so the first few days I just take it very easy to chill out and the drive following another car and then I'm used to it and then it's just part of the game probably it's a good idea to rent an automatic car so it's one problem out of the way [Music] thank you and now where can you rent a car here in Sicily well you have two options one you do it online and one you do it on site on site the issue is that you don't really know who you're renting with so my suggestion here is to try to rent online I usually use a website which is a competitive website I'll put a link down in the video description which compares the price of all of the usual rentals and it provides the best price overall plus I can add an insurance a full insurance to pay which takes me to the next Point absolutely add a full insurance to your car because no matter what whenever you park a car probably they're gonna scratch it maybe because the parking is so natto but what's happening is that you can have the best deal online but man you take the car back and they're gonna charge you 200 users because it's scratch and this is something you want to avoid [Music] type of roads and speed limits let's start from the highways which covers most of the island a Saturday South Coast and there's highways the speed limits can go from 130 to 110 to 80s when especially when you're going into tunnels the highway is free to accept from Palermo to Messina there are other major roads which are absolutely fine like the highways but just one lane and then there are the small roads especially when you go Inland in that case we become another but nothing major just to slow down a little bit speed limits usually between 50 and 70s and they can go down to 30k per hour my only suggestion here is to avoid to go into the old towns some of them has that TL which means you can't go inside that is a camera if you can side you get to find so just park the car outside and you venture inside the Old Town by foot [Music] and now just a couple of words about the locals how do they dry it how they're going to make you crazy here well my experience has been very very good actually but people in Sicily are driving very relaxed for sure and I'm not going to have a stressful situation like you may have in Rome of course in Naples it's quite an easy going except probably but two major cities which are Catania and Palermo where personally I would avoid venturing also because of the streets of badinado part of it is covered by ztl which means you can't go inside with a car I will park the car outside and take the train in or you can select to take an accommodation outside and mentioning with a train or with a public transportation and in that case probably you're going to spend also less money by the way [Music] foreign [Music] well we'll have fun most of the time you find the white lines which means a free park you don't have to pay other times like on the other side you see yellow lines which means it's dedicated to other people with needs handicapped so you can't park there otherwise we're going to remove your cars other times it's not signal at all so you can park there and hope for the best then but there's another time where you have to pay for the ticket and in that case it's a blue line and for vet it is an easy parking app but I suggest you downloading because with that we make your life so much easier because you can move the time you go back to the car I have a back bottle forward and if you move it backward because you go to the car a little bit before the expected timings You're Gonna Save money or if you go forward You're Gonna Save The Ticket [Music] thank you and here I am from a petrol station in Sicily I just wanted to tell you a couple of things first thing you can save some money if you do the picture yourself so you have to go into the self column but there's another one which is called servito and that means that it's a service so become and we put Perpetual for you always do itself Because You're Gonna Save Us 10 to 15 percent on the petrol cost thank you foreign [Music] rules obviously based on the age of the kid and that's like any country really the only thing I want to say that is from 9 to 12 years old for example in Australia we don't need to have any seat but here in Italy you need just to have a bumper like this one here that's enough for a nine years old depends not only on the age but depends also on how many kilos or how tall it is again in the post that I'm gonna add to this video description uh you will have all of this information and I know you're gonna see cars maybe with five six seven people inside and nobody has a booster like I have now but the point here is the insurance if you have an accident hey you don't follow the rules the insurance may not pay so you can either rent the booster from the rental car or you can decide to buy yourself like I'm renting this car for the month and the cost of the rental of the booster is so high that I went to a local shop and I bought one for 20 bucks as easy as that [Music] foreign [Music] tip here never leave any bag visible bag into the car like for example I will never leave these back here into the car even if it's absolutely empty doesn't really matter because people don't know it you may get to the car open and damaged because of that so don't let it I haven't seen still after the month as mesh window but this doesn't mean we can't open the car we're not going to open the car for these bags so never leave it if you have to really just put everything here behind it's all hidden and the number is gonna take it but even that it's not the thing I would suggest [Music] and what about the traffic now I'm down here in the main road close to Messina and you may hear a little bit of a traffic but overall I must say I haven't found much traffic I've been driving here for the last four weeks in September 2022 and I never had to queue much to be honest with you except probably when we enter Palermo and in that case we had a little bit of a traffic which is totally expected was 6 p.m so people living in the office probably so I guess it's just commuting time so my suggestion here is to avoid entering or leaving the major cities on commuting hours foreign [Music] just before heading to the beach for the swim I wanted to give a little bit of a comparison between public transportation and also driving public transportation is good in a way that you can go from A to B somehow there is a good train system in the East and the north of the Bay Island otherwise you can take a bus and to go from any destination to any destination if you go to minor destination probably there is a bus but it's only maybe once a day public transportation is no water experience you jump on we jump off there is only one thing probably but for example if you go to agligento it's going to take you to the bus station of agligence bay you need to take another local bus to go to your accommodation so it's going to take more time with a car it will be more flexible of course personally I prefer a car here in Sicily especially if you want to visit some of the beaten path places like I visited in these four weeks I'm thinking here the ghost town right in the middle of Sicily and on the Toronto place is a salt hands close to Masala my most important tip here if you rent a car you have a full insurance it's a no worry experience you're not going to be worried where you're parking not going to be worried if someone is going to touch your car that's so much better more expensive yes but here on holiday at the end of the day and you want to have a no worry experience now I'm gonna go down to the beach for the swim I'll leave it to you and remember you can read more into my post
