welcome back if you missed it just before the break we were chatting with the chair of history at the University of Arkansas Dr krie Bon who is filling Us in on the history of this great holiday we're celebrating today many Americans celebrating juneth today and it's going to be kicking off today's trending stories here's a look at our hot topics brought to you by Walton Art Center well as we've mentioned several times today is juneth which commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned they were free more than two 2 years after then President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that liberated slaves in the Confederacy during the Civil War a law signed in 2021 declared juneth a Federal holiday and those most local celebrations happened over the weekend there are a few happening in Northwest Arkansas today for a full list of those juneth celebrations you can head over to our website right now but what a day to go out commemorate and celebrate I know I went to the June celebrations that happened in downtown Springdale this past weekend did and man it was just a it was just a great time great time we together celebrate yeah well Oscar winner Jordan peele's fourth film has a new release date okay good update yes so the film which was announced in March 2023 had an initial release date of December 2024 but because of the you know the writer strike production was delayed but fans only have to wait a little bit longer Peele announced a new release date of October 23rd 2026 on social media on Monday and beyond that we don't really know anything about the project however he did say quote I do feel like my next project is clear to me and I am psyched that uh that I have another film that could be my favorite movie if I make it right so really excited about that man I'm excited about that so his film so far let me try to remember they are get out and there was us and then there was nope and and then they're mon like monkey man or something I think he was a producer on that monkey man film yeah so so we got to see what's going to happen with number four that directing here he's done he's made waves I feel like in kind of the horror psychological horror genre which is interesting because he's coming from that comedy world yeah what a talent guys talented dude well to some great news to some sad news now Willie Mays the electrifying say Hey kid whose singular combination of talent drive and exuberance made him one of baseball's greatest and most beloved players has sadly passed away ma family and the San Francisco Giants jointly announced that the Hall of Famer has died his son said in a statement quote my father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart for the unwavering love you have shown him over the years you have been his life's blood Willie May was 93 what a legend uh Legend Willie May I so many stories so many great moments I I think I heard this morning he had over 600 home runs in his career as AER and everybody knows that catch that he made um just just famous and uh you know sad to see him pass very sad very sad well the Empire State Building has a new tenant take a look at the 270t dragon that's wrapped around the Empire State Building Spire NBC's New York's Chopper flew over it the dragon is there for the next couple of days to promote the new season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon the Empire State Building is also hosting a Game of Thrones experience on the 80th floor of the skyscraper along with a chance to sit on the famous iron throne and the experience and the dragon will hang around through the rest of today okay wow interesting are you a big Game of Thrones fan I have never seen an episode honestly I mean I've been told I would love it but never never aot what about you never taken it you know what I haven't either I haven't really uh dived into this yet I know everyone here in The Newsroom loves this show and I feel like I'm the last we're the hold outs I feel like but here we are got to jump in because man what what effort it took I think to get that 270 uh foot Dragon wrapped around the Spire there in the Empire State Building amazing
