[Music] [Laughter] [Music] so here we see the perfect store-bought pineapple for regrowing the top as you can see the crown is nice and healthy it's not all ragged and torn and it's nice and clear down the center you don't see any rot or anything like that and the center is not pulling out this is ideal if you want to try to grow a pineapple from a store-bought fruit but what if the pineapple you buy in the grocery store doesn't have a crown on it this is getting quite quite the popular thing in some parts of the country i think it's because the growers don't want you to grow their regrow their pineapple so they just cut the top right off but as you can see this one here has a tiny tiny bit of a stump left on the top if you look very closely you can see there's some vestibule roots and i'm going to show you how to re-grow this even though there's no crown on top [Music] be sure to pick a pineapple where it's freshly cut and you can see a little those vestil roots it has to be very fresh it can't be dried so take a look at the pineapple i got it was reasonably fresh it hadn't been drying out it hadn't been stored in the i don't think it had been stored in the refrigerated section because it's nice and plump and everything looks just right for regrowing in a normal store-bought pineapple you just twist the top off and you take a look here and you look and it's nice and healthy but a lot of pineapples you get lately have been stored in the refrigerated section and they are just not healthy if you was to leave this crown on the oh there's my cat if you just leave this crown on the counter it probably stay healthy and plump looking for weeks look at those roots it's very healthy but some of the bad ones they they dry up and die not this one it is ideal for planting whether you want to start it in the water or in a regular potting mix it is ideal for planting you see these roots perfect so many store-bought pineapples have just been refrigerated way too long and at too low temperature and they end up rotting out this is perfect for planting so what we're going to do today is we're going to start a pineapple top even after either the top has been damaged or and then cut off or maybe the maybe the grower cut the the crown off and what i've done is i've taken the little disc that's left in the fruit as you can see i got two right here and uh we're going to propagate them if you take a look we have they're still roots right around the residual leaf bases uh there's also i don't know if you can see but there's the little buds in those layers that are still alive just like a crown from a store-bought pineapple so what we're going to do is what i've done is i've a day in advance i've wet this soaked this sphagnum moss the long fibered sphagnum moss and you can get this at any of the big box stores or whatnot but so i soaked it in water and then i have it here and what i'm going to do and you got to wring it out really well so you can see there's still water i rang it out once you don't want a lot of water in there believe it or not and then i'm going to kind of fluff it up a little bit put it in here put that disc right amongst it you don't want it to be too far i'm gonna pack the uh the wet sphagnum moss down a little bit but not you want it somewhat loose and then take a lid you could do this with other other containers but i took a lid i put a small air hole a very small air hole because you do not want the sphagnum moss to dry out and that's what we got putting the little disk in peat moss here is the results keeping it in a warm area under bright artificial light in my den and within a couple months here's what we got looking good so you want to keep that little disc and the peat moss warm day and night at about a temperature of about 80 degrees and in a couple months this is what you get a baby little little baby pineapple growing off the little disk um and then in a couple more months or about a year i should say you got this a pineapple and once you've got your own crowns it is you don't really have to worry so much about root rot that you get with store-bought pineapples usually your own crowns will produce the best new plant pineapple plants as you can see here this one i have growing it's a small one but here we are going into winter and it won't be too long and it'll be ripe probably in the spring my name is jeff and if you like this channel go ahead and hit that like the subscribe button the notification bell and if you have any comments or questions leave them in the comment section below i do my best to get back to every comment you guys have a wonderful day [Music]
