[Music] foreign well hi folks hey guess what today we're going to do a little demo and review this is a little weird i don't do a lot of these but today we're going to review a wood-burning stove comes in a nice little pack guess what that's all it says on it wood burning stove i took this thing out and i looked all over it there's no name brand on it there's no manufacturer information on it there's nothing no paperwork in the past in the pouch i received this stove from my oldest son running water and he says pop i got two of these and i thought you'd like one i thought i thought yeah sure now i will get the manufacturer information and i'll put it down in the description so don't forget to go down in the description take a look at it and i'll probably put it on the screen here somewhere a couple of times so that you know what this wood stove really is where it came from one thing i can tell you though is running water by two of these they were twenty dollars apiece now it's not too terribly heavy but when it comes to backpacking well it's a different story it weighs close to a pound so that's quite a bit of weight for backpacking now if i was backpacking maybe eight or ten miles in i'm gonna camp and i'm gonna be there a few days it might be worth throwing this in the bottom of the pack so but if i'm gonna go out on a multi-day hike and i'm gonna be staying overnight packing up hauling again for miles quite a few miles and camping again doing that two three times and then returning back i don't think i'd want to carry this much weight but if i'm packing into a known location it's only eight ten twelve miles and i pack into it and i'm going to stay put for a while and then pack back out it would be worth carrying this much weight but let's take a look at this i'm all set up i've got you probably can't see it but i've got tinder kindling and wood now it's a stick stove so all my wood is small sticks okay and what we're going to do is we're going to set this up and we'll fire it up get it going and i'm going to put a pot of water on it about 17 ounces it's 16.9 ounces of water on it and we're going to take a look and see how long does it take for it to bring that water to a boil and how hard is it to keep the thing going you know is it easy to feed blah blah blah so here we go let's open her up now forgive me i'm i'm in camp in a campground and you may hear voices in the distance or children in the distance because the campground is pretty full of people today but here we go okay so the case is empty and this is it this is the stove um now like i said i know very little about this stove so let's get into it okay you can see it is pretty compact first thing to pull out of there is this that's an ash tray for any ash to fall on as the stoves run set that aside and now we'll open it up it's got two handles on it two little handles pull it apart and inside it's got this nice little grate you'll see where that goes it goes on top and inside okay it's hinged on both sides and inside of it there's this grate drops down and it squares it up it's got two little tabs that it drops into and it squares the whole unit up now it's solid sides you know well this these two sides are hinged but solid back on the front it's got this little door okay that's where you'll feed the fires through this little door now i can already see a couple of things that i'm not very keen on one these handles these little handles those are going to get hot i guarantee you those are going to get hot you're not going to want to grab those with a bare hand this door this ring and rod that it's connected to to get a hold of it is kind of difficult and that will get awful hot on the front door to be able to open and close that door that ring will get hot unless the door is open and the rings hang in there to cool off you won't want to grab that ring so there you go there's the basic stove now what you do hopefully you can see this those two handles those two little handles you pop those up we'll just do the one for now and you take this great now you can see the grate has handles on both ends both sides you take those handles put them over those little handles flip those handles up and drop it over those little handles oops i got it upside down there we go now that grate fits right inside the top and it squares it up that much more so there's the completed stove put together and this base the ash drawer which really all it does is it keeps the ash from falling through to the ground until you're done with it it slides it slides in the bottom there we go slides in the bottom now the unit's complete it's got a solid bottom the great on the top looks good looks good stove's good we're gonna set it on a stone block here get my leg out of the way so you can see okay it's on this stone block hopefully you can see this all right okay well let's get this thing going i'm gonna use some birch bark for tinder in this stove i'm not getting fancy i'm not firing it up with a ferro rod and all that i'm doing this to test the stove not my fire making skills so i'm starting out with some birch bark and i found this dead birch and i'm gonna break me off a bunch of small birch sticks now this birch was this birch branch was standing vertically so i know these sticks are nice and dry so there we go we got a nice little handful of birch sticks okay we're gonna get those in the stove the door is nice and large and accommodating for putting tinder and wood in there now i'm going to throw some sticks of wood in there now you can take this grate off and load from the top if you wish um but then you have to put the grate on over burning wood it's gonna be a little hot to try to get that grate on there and the door is so accommodating that i really don't see the point in in um trying to load it through the top when it's so easy to load it from the front so there's way more than enough wood to get this thing fired up so we'll light it up here we go i'm going to use a i'm going to use a barbecue lighter next best thing the feral rod so let's get this thing fired up that easy just a little bit of fire and she's off and running now let's see how well this takes off in the meantime i've got the stanley pot these stanley cookbots camp cook pots are awesome they're awesome pull the lid off of it set the lid aside and i've got a 16.9 ounce bottle of water here we're going to fill that up with 16.9 ounces now that's a lot of water now for me that's enough water for a cup of coffee and enough water to make a camp meal like a like a freeze-dried mountain house meal or something of that sort and what we're off to do is is just to get we want to get this boiling grab me some more sticks seems to be taking a fire really good there's some good flames coming off the top we're gonna get that water on there right away no i mean we've only spent about a minute and a half doing this so we're gonna oops we're gonna set this water on and we're gonna see how long it takes for that water to boil i'm gonna time it boom timer's started i can tell you already that this stick stove seems to be plenty efficient it's drawing plenty of air in um that's sometimes that's one of the problems with these stoves is they don't draw enough air in but there's a large slot in the front a large slot large slot back here that draws air in and pulls it up through the bottom and it creates an excellent draft so it burns quite well burns quite well just keep adding a little bit of wood and one of the one of the keys to this is have a bunch of these sticks well you find these sticks it's best if you can find branches dead branches on trees that are very brittle and harvest those picking it off the ground if it's been dry for several days it should be okay picking it off the ground if it's kind of on top of things you don't want anything directly on the ground because it holds moisture but if you break it off the trees dead branches and you break them up into little you know maybe five inch pieces at the largest you know break it up into small pieces you don't need a saw you don't need a axe you don't need a hatchet you don't need anything except your hands just break it up and this stove is off and running boy i can see the water is already starting to react to that heat it's getting close i don't think it's going to be long before i've got a full boil on that oh yeah it's boiling hard now there we'll stop the timer i don't know if you can see that or not four minutes 53 seconds four minutes 53 seconds so you can count on it five minute boil there it is it's boiling it quits as soon as i take it off of there but you can hear it sizzling i take the cover off then i yeah as soon as i put it on there it's boiling it's boiling well you might be able to see it in the camera it's boiling i have to say this is a success now i'm going to close this door because i'm not going to add any more fuel because my water is boiled i closed the door now look at these flames you close that door and it creates such a draw it's just rolling boil can you see that rolling boil five minutes and it's just super hot rolling boil i'm gonna take that off because i don't need it to boil away and then the key to the whole thing is let it completely cool down pull the ash tray out tap the stove a few times and the ashes will fall out through the grate let everything cool off completely and then disassemble the stove wipe it down clean it put it back in its bag and you're off and going i would say this stove for twenty dollars for twenty dollars you can't beat that you can't beat that for twenty bucks so like i said down in the description i'll give you some information on where this stove was purchased from i have to get that information from running water and again i'll put it down here along here in the screen and i am so happy that you decided to tag along on this little demo and until the next time you all have a very very nice day bye bye [Music] do [Music]
