forty thousand dollar camera [Music] hey guys welcome back we are back as well happy new year to everyone and i wish you all the best in 2022. now let's go inside welcome back to 2022 and copycat guys we're sending out a big-ass green screen in the studio today because we're going to recreate an epic scene from dune the one that you can see right here and we're going to do it entirely inside unreal engine and also a little bit of after effects let's have a look at how yannick is doing with the green screen green screen i mean yannick how's it going good question well green is more sensitive to digital cameras which is why we're using it more often while blue is more sensitive to film cameras you know the actual film roll however if your talent is wearing something green of course you can still work with a blue screen so both work but green is ideal our tube has seen better days it won't fit that's what she this right here is the red gemini a forty thousand dollar camera we're gonna mount it on a very small jib i should really buy a new chip we need one for the red what we're also going to need besides a new jib is some stock footage for our compositing later on but luckily we have story blocks as sponsor for today's video in their ever growing library with more than 1 million royalty-free high-quality stock assets you can find numerous assets perfect for special effects and compositing like for example flying dust smoke clips flares and so on now besides that you can also find stock assets in hd to 4k resolution various after effects templates which will save you a lot of time epic music and sound effects for your videos and so much more everybody knows that filmmakers need to choose their time wisely to work on projects and that's why storyblocks is our best friend they really help us to tell our story in the best possible way and bring it to life great example for this was our space gen dunk effect when our hero is running towards the hoop you can see these hood elements floating around these we all got from story blocks and combined them together to create this big glowing space jam hood effect and to top that off you can download as much assets as you want from their library with the unlimited all access plan so that means you can create unlimited visual effects and create the next blockbuster movie if you want to know more about storyblocks and how to start downloading right away click the first link in the description below or go straight to storyblocks.com sydneycom i'm a professional [Music] hey guys you want to see me do a backflip wow for the effect shot you're gonna shoot from a tripod and if you want to put in some movement we're gonna use a jib of whatever you have laying around to do an awesome movement and then of course is the green screen itself and if you're going to add movement into it very important to add tracking markers which is just some tape on the green screen itself and then comes the lighting guys now the easiest thing to do is actually to work with a low sunlight it's the easiest way to match the lighting with your background scene and finally a pro tip for better green keying is to wear something on your head so you don't show your hair it goes much easier [Music] so much wind here in the studio it's wrap guys now let's go upstairs and do some editing [Music] yeah being productive the first thing we'll need is our tracking data in our previous unreal videos we used actual motion trackers to record our movement but this time we wanted to try something a bit more accessible so after being gone for two weeks blow that dust off after effect and start it up now drag your shot in the sequence with this selected head over to the tracker panel and choose track camera once the tracking is done look for a point where the target seems flush with the ground here right click and choose set ground plane and origin right click again and this time choose create nil and camera and if you now scrub through your timeline the solid should stick to the ground now before we export this project we need to change one small thing open up the sequence settings by pressing ctrl k and set the start time code to zero and to finish it off go over to file export and choose max on cinema for the exporter a pop-up will appear but just press ok and yeah i know it's real that we exported for cinema 4d but that's because you can go directly from after effects to unreal engine so we have to do a small workaround but don't worry with after effects comes a cinema 4d lite for free which should do the job to open up cinema for the light go in after effects to file new and choose maximum cinema 4d file then for me it opened up the normal version since i have the license for it but it doesn't matter which version you use once cinema 4d is open go to file open project and look for the cinema 4d file we exported from after effects now all that you have to do is to go to file and save the project for cineware yep that's all for cinema 4d time to fire up unreal engine just create a new blank project to be able to use our cinema 4d file we first need to install a plugin so head over to edit and choose plugins here you'll want to look for data smith cinema for the importer press enable and on the bottom right there will appear a new button restart now so go ahead and click that once it has restarted head over to content data submit and look for the export we did in cinema 4d choose a folder where it should save everything press ok and after that click import if you now go to the animations folder and double click the level sequence in there you can scroll through the timeline and see your camera move and you'll notice your solid is floating above the actual ground but that you can easily fix by selecting the parent of this solid and using the x y and z axis to move it in the right position our next step is going to be the world building in the same level as our tracked camera is in we started with creating the floor we first tried to create a dune with the landscape tools this way we would have the most control over our landscape but because we are working on unreal engine 5 which is a beta version we ran into some problems our custom landscape blueprints wouldn't work properly and then we tried height maps which also didn't work so we decided to make it ourselves easier we just looked for a pre-made dune 3d model and voila we have our landscape then with a sand material from the free quixote library we added the sand texture making it look desert like if you want you can also add some more quixil desert models but we kept it quite clean now it's just a matter of adding some lights like a low hanging sun a bunch of fog and of course an awesome spaceship this replica ship from dune we found on cg trader if you want you can place a mannequin reference in your scene this will give you a better view for the exact framing of your camera last step render out your scene go to your sequencer right click and choose camera cut track now click on the plus sign of the camera cut track and select the camera you imported which is done we can finally render out our scene by pressing the clapper icon right here when the render is done it's time for the compositing and something that's going to be really handy for us is that we already detract our scene in the beginning so now we can simply drag in our overlays make them a 3d layer and everything will already be perfectly tracked to your scene when you're placing overlays in your scene make sure you're not only putting them in front of your subject but also behind them making your scene having way more depth in it for our shot we added multiple sand overlays dust winds we added flares we added light beams and of course we color corrected everything so it matched better together and when you finally are done with all of the compositing you have yourself a cool looking vfx shot now give this video a thumbs up guys if you enjoyed it thank you so much for watching and as always stay creative check out the video here on my left guys
