so guess what I've got the gearbox back from The Specialist this is the Honda cb250 Super dream I took on as a restoration project the last time it was on the road was way back in 1986 when I got it back to my workshop I started this project by completely stripping the bike down however while I was tearing the bike apart I managed to snap a head bolt so we welded a nut to the bolt to try and remove it but that failed by also snapping this meant the bottom end had to go to an engineering firm so they could help me out of this predicament can you believe it he actually managed to rescue that thread so this is fantastic news because his engine has only done 10,000 Mi and I don't want to go ahead and have to strip it all down into tiny little pieces that would have been extremely timec consuming and so now I can progress forward I want to see if I can polish this up and make it look like a mirror so I quickly remove the clutch cover this pops off relatively easy because I had already removed it previously same goes for the flywheel cover all right so I'm going to start on the flywheel cover first looking at the condition this is going to be so fun if I can rescue this one then I should be able to do the other one easy firstly I wanted to remove any engine oils and grease in my parts washer then I move on to using an abrasive wheel to make light work of taking away that horrible film of corrosion as for the dull black paint finish but this is how I got rid of that I will look to repaint this at a later [Music] stage so far so good considering where we started that's a huge trans but we're not finished just yet because I'm now going to use this aluminum polish and hope that it gives it a proper mirror finish now the directions for this Mother's aluminium polish were to use sparingly I thought I would just test a small area first using my Dremel it looked promising so to speed up the process I moved on to using the cotton wheel [Music] check this out then what a result look at that it's gleaming that's incredible I'm going to repeat the same process on the other case before I did that though I just need to remove the clutch activation [Music] arm I think the clutch case cover is in an even worse condition so I polish away using my tools to speed things up however I must say this does take a long time 2 hours later look what we have really proud of that what next H okay so I want to come back to these carburetors now I have already rebuild them I used a rebuild kit as well however I wasn't happy with the rebuild kit so what I've done is I've ordered a Kea rebuild kit this is as close as you're going to get to OEM as well as that I did realize something I discovered that I actually haven't replaced the Jets luckily in this rebuild kit we also have new Jets so I'm going to go back through the carburetors because we need to make sure it is perfect you know I'm really glad that I went back through these carbs because looking at the old Jets versus the new Jets the old jets are definitely blocked there is a tiny little like pin hole in these new jets that would have caused me issues if I didn't replace them right what next I'm thinking let's rebuild the front forks now when I stripped these Forks in a previous video I did clean them up though since theyve been sat around getting Dusty I gave them a wipe down using [Music] gt85 I have of course new oil seals to install which I applyed grease to before I fit I use a 32 mm socket to help tap the seal into place then ensure I pop the oil seal retainer clip in and give the area a little wi [Music] down on slides of fork bottom then a new dust seal and of course I tighten up the fork bottom all right so so far so good but now I need to find out how much of this four coil I need to put in those legs looking through the workshop manual it recommends 140 ml per leg so I've got myself a measuring jug here so let me proceed with doing just that if you wonder where I got this trusty workshop manual from well it was thanks to E manual online for me having access to a manual to instantly download to your phone or computer is so efficient and cost effective all the hard copies I've used in the past but they just end up getting destroyed so this is perfect for me and just like that we've got two front forks fully rebuilt now I know in the previous upload some of you shared your concerns around me mentioning the fact that when I removed the rust from these Chrome stanions there was pitting now the pitting isn't actually that bad where I've sanded the rust away and where I rubbed my fingers up and down the stanions there's no sharp edges so yeah I I don't think the seals will tear and the Chrome it still looks pretty decent all right so what I've got here is a brake fluid reservoir which I've sand blasted however I have a little bit of an issue and that is with the brake light switch now I went to remove this before I sand blasted it however the screws snapped so I thought well I'm going to sand blast anyway and now what I'm going to do is for the very first time I'm going to get to use my pillar drill because I'm going to need to proceed by removing that screw thing is I had drilled the broken screw out though the switch wouldn't budge so I thought maybe should try and tap a new thread I was thinking if I could tap a new thread then this would make sure the old screw is definitely out and in the process I would have the thread the switch would still not budge so I ripped it out absolutely incredible isn't it I had to butcher that switch to remove it I can replace it which is fine was it ever going to come out without having to destroy it look at the corrosion in there as for my pill drill though I was able to tap a perfect hole right so I think I'm going to have to use my pill drill again because I want to sandblast this rear mud guard look at the state of it however I can't sand blast it while this helmet catch is in situ I'm thinking I might just try and drill it out I have tried to use a key on this but it's not working but yeah I need to sand blast this before I paint it very Rusty very very Rusty now then that anti- theft Bolt is not coming out so I'm going to use my Dremel and I'm going to try and cut it off that [Music] way so look it might seem a bit of a shame to have to cut this helmet latch off do you know what I might be able to save it I mean at the moment it isn't working if I try to unlock it with the key I don't want to try and force it and and potentially break the key because it's any key I have but if I can get that working I could always reattach it just using a nut and bolt so watch the space however what I now need to do is try and sand blast this up I have been a little bit disappointed in the past when it comes to sand blasting but thanks to some of your comments in the previous videos what you've helped me do is figure out how to prevent dust so what I've done is I've created what is called a cyclone so I've plumbed it into the side of the cabinet comes down and then what I've done is hooked up a shot back and I have put it to the test and it seems to have literally eradicated all of the Dust when it comes to looking down into the cabinet when I'm sand blasting I don't get this plume of dust filling up the cabinet so I can actually see what I'm now doing so as always appreciate your comments so all your tips and advice I'm always listening so thank you very much [Music] so this is the result of my sand blast and I have to say I'm so impressed everything's come out ready and prepared to be painted so that's what we're going to do next this is how I paint my items I hang them from a clothes rail using thin steel wire okay so this is the order I'm going to spray those parts and I'm going to start with a Surface Cleaner Then followed by an H primer H primer is great for metals and then I'm going to go for an enamel spray paint in gloss black hopefully that gives it kind of like an oem look and Then followed up with an enamel spray paint clear lacquer when I spray paint I always try to Edge on the side of caution because I am a newbie so my Strokes I like to move quite swiftly on which means the paint goes on fairly light now then in between me applying coats of paint to those parts I'm going to try and clean up the cylinder heads [Music] well I've decided I'm going to start adding some high Build primer now because if you look closely you can still see the marks from where I've blasted away the rust so I'm hoping this will just take away a bit of The Edge from The Sound blasting [Music] [Applause] so this is a result of about an hour's work and while it looks a lot better I'm still not 100% happy however I am going to move on to the other part of the cylinder head yeah it's getting there it's getting there right so now it's time to start adding some gloss black yeah the primer that high Build primer I don't think it's made much difference but I think once I've get the gloss black paint on hopefully they look really good which will find out very soon [Music] [Music] as I continue to work my fingers to the Bone I would like to take a moment to let you know that if you find these restoration projects intriguing I would love to help support me bringing old deric bites like this back to life please consider supporting me you can do this by either Bec a YouTube member of bikes of ride or you can support me via patreon as a patreon member you will also have the opportunity to win selected project bikes that feature on this channel this is my way of giving back to those of you who support me in keeping this passion alive I will leave links in the description if you'd like to know more okay so pretty decent but I think what I'm going to do next with both of these cylinder heads is give them a little bit of a wash in my parts washer just to remove all of the debris and then we'll give it a Polish right so I'm in two minds as to what to do with these chrome parts I say chrome parts they're very very Rusty now I made an inquiry into having replated but I discovered it's going to be8 weeks plus it's going to cost hundreds and hundreds of pounds then I thought hm maybe I could replace them but replacing them for patent Parts also costs hundreds and hundreds of pounds so what I've done instead is I've ordered some down pipes which will be in Chrome as for everything else I'm thinking to sand blast them and paint P them I know some of you are going to be a bit angry but at least the exhaust will be Chrome plus if I make the engine super shiny then yeah there's some Chrome on the bike please don't hate me right the these tires and wheels obviously we need to replace these tires look how cruddy and old they are the front tire is a Yokohama whereas the rear tire is Avon and if you look at the age of the tire c514 actually give you an idea of how old these tires are those tires have actually been on those rims since the80s I need to get them off the rims and I don't have the facility so I'm going to have to go and take them somewhere get them removed so I can clean up the wheels and then fit some brand new rubber all right so with the rear brake and the gear Peg I think rather than paint this I reckon I can clean this up and polish it let's see if we can take these from looking very Rusty to looking very blingy if it doesn't look great then I can always paint it afterwards can't I [Music] [Music] and this is where I'm learning as I go I've tried to polish this up but I think it's so badly corroded obviously it needs reating rechroming but as I mentioned already cannot wait 8 weeks and I don't want to spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds I want to do everything in house you see as well that's the main thing I want to do as much as I possibly can myself that's the whole point I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to whack this in the sand blaster I'm going try and take it down to Bare Metal then maybe if I can try and polish up from there it might go shiny if not I'll have to spray it the gear Peg on the other hand actually looks all right [Music] [Music] [Music] all right so they've cleaned up really well they've polished up better than I expected especially this gear Peg as for the that brake pedal well it's very pitted I sort don't mind it looking a little bit wed anyway I kind of think that adds to the bike's character and age right as I continue on my mission to Tar all of these Rusty Parts up I'm going to see what I can do with this starter motor and as bad as it looks at least we know it works because we did in fact attempt to start the bike before we stripped it all down [Music] but we still need to clean it up so let me do my [Music] best do you know what I think what I'm going to do is move on to my trusty wirewheel because I think this will speed this process up dramatically [Music] now it's much improved however it's taking me a long long time trying to remove this rust so I'm going to put this in my sandblast unit and I'm just going to focus solely on that rust and then I can potentially buff it up afterwards right where are we at well let me tell you this it's gone midnight I'm very tired I've been in this workshop for hours actually to be honest with you I've been in this work workshop for many many days this restoration game is not easy let me just share with you a couple of updates because check this out we've got some Chrome rear shocks brand new obviously and these are a great replacement they're the exact length and the correct springing rate they should be these are the original shocks from the bike and I did want to try and restore them but the damper was completely obliterated also in this box here I've got some brand new Chrome headers so you'll be happy to know that we have got some chrome parts going on on the bike also this is a brand new brake light switch you know the one we destroyed so yeah we've got a direct replacement that as side I've also been so busy painting away I've got a handful of Parts here all drying they're gloss black and they've come out so well and here are some parts I've painted that I've actually dried look at that finish I'm so happy with how they've come out now these Chrome bits I have actually sandblasted these crash bars but what I might do is actually get them powder coated I also really want to keep this luggage carrier you don't see any super dreams with this installed so it'll be a little bit different now as for the frame well it might just be powder coated in a nice gloss black tucked away there nice and safely and yeah and then when you come into my workshop just look at the state of it it's so dusty the sand blasting unit whil have hooked up the Hoover it's made a big difference but there is dust everywhere and it's kind of it's frustrating me a little bit because yeah I'm going to have to give it a good TI up before we rebuild the bike so yes talking about rebuilding the super dream I'm actually going to look to end this one here because in the next installment we are going to start rebuilding this bike from the ground up so let's look forward to that one and for now thank you all so much for watching hit the thumbs up and I hope to see you on the next one real soon see you later going to go home now
