Reba McEntire Reveals How She & Boyfriend Rex Linn Bonded Over Tater Tots | The Drew Barrymore Show

I do love me some tater tots absolutely so our gang managed to find all the tater tots in the in Las Vegas in the whole country now Rex is it true that this giant Everest of tots has something to do with Rex that maybe you and Rex have a tater tot something in your story oh yeah oh yeah we met in ' 91 doing the Gambler movie with Kenny Rogers he's from Texas I'm from Oklahoma well he moved where in Texas uh the Panhandle Spearman north of amarilla yep so he moved from uh Spearman to Oklahoma City when he was 12 well I'm in the Southeastern part of Oklahoma all my life until I moved to Nashville in ' 88 so we have that in common we both love the Western Way of Life Rodeo Cowboys I always wanted to be a world champion barrel racer he wanted to be a cowboy team roper but we weren't good at it so he goes into acting I'm into music and so we do this movie together and then 2020 right before Co I'm going out to do young Sheldon he's on young Sheldon Melissa Peterman is on young Sheldon so we were all going to go out and have dinner and Melissa says that that was our first date because I mean I was like a magnet to Rex I just couldn't get close enough to him don't know why we had talked talked and communicated throughout the years had a mutual friend Ed Gaylord and we stayed in contact but for some reason that night was just so special so we had dinner and then uh we went down to Steve malo's wine bar and we went back in a private room and the lady comes in and says I know y'all have just eaten but we do have some really cool appetizers and we said well what are they and she said well we have tater tots and I said ah I love tater tots and Rex said you know I'm famous for giving people their nicknames and that's your nickname I said what he said Tater Tot so later on during pandemic I was in Oklahoma with my sister Susie and she said you know he gave you Tater Tot let's give him sugar tot he's sugar Tot so we're the tots sugar and tater how about that is that not cute we're grown people in honor of that I just have to eat a to May May you know you can put ketchup on this barbecue sauce I do like ketchup on a tot I love ketchup on everything M were you did you feel like that with other men cuz I feel like I haven't been magnetized to a man in so long and when you feel that way cuz it's happened a few times nothing's really come out of it but it's like you're like oh my God I'm alive oh like I'm a human I it's shocking because I for the last seven eight years have just been like nope I'm fine it's me it's my kids this is my time I'm actually committing to myself I've been in relationships my whole life I've got these two kids who need me so much yeah friends job content but it is weird when you actually get the magnet that is a wild concept it was new I'm really glad it happened for you thank you greatest thing ever it was just like why now so I asked Rex so I've been married twice he's been engaged four times but never married and so I said Rex how come you and I have known each other all this time but we never got together and he said probably because you would have killed me he's a wild man he's a 12-year-old it's true I don't I don't wish my old self on anyone um but I I'm I'm excited for when the next magnet occurs I'm literally going to be like you are getting like a newborn like a a like a new human a new version of me that's never explored a relationship so I am excited about that and people do grow in change and I believe it because I've seen it with myself like we are capable of change now you grew up in nature like you come from a rodeo family and this year feels so beautifully cyclical and uh closure with much more room ahead um full circle maybe is the best term for it that you sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl M and 50 years ago this year you sang the national anthem at a rodeo MH what does that feel like amazing I'm very grateful very thankful but wow who to think it little girl going up to the national colge rodeo in Oklahoma City from college in Durant Oklahoma getting to Sing the anthem meeting a guy named red steall and he said hm something different about this girl and 11 months later I have a recording contract with polygram Mercury records and every step little baby steps throughout the 50 years has been teaching learning cuz I knew nothing about the music business p and Susie and I were the singing mcintyres and we'd sing in Honky Tonks and dance halls and rodeos and football halftimes there at k Oklahoma school but I never in my wildest imagination I got pretty good imagination but nothing would ever had would presented that to me that 50 years later you're going to be sing the national an them at the Super Bowl this was like wow mindboggling so I give total credit to God total praise and glory to God because he was the planner he's the one that put it all together I love that what I'm most sensing from you is like gratitude and humility and it's nice to see that look on your face about the 50 and it being such a a glim a glimmer in your eye it's wonderful do you ever think that this is why you're put on Earth do you think that there's a reason why God put you on this Earth because you've touched so many people's lives and their hearts and you've changed people's lives so have you and you know that is a true gift and when I thought one time well I don't I don't want to do this then I thought well if I don't do what God's given me to do he'll get to somebody else well that's my competitive coming out you know oh no I don't want them to have it I want to have that experience so getting to saying the national anthem 50 years after I started singing the National Anthem it's a gift of you know here you go now but it's not about me I'm out there singing but it's not about me it's about the song and hoping to reunite all the division that's going on in the world in our country and hopefully that will heal hearts and I kind of think sometimes that's why I'm on the earth if it's to heal one heart then great
