[Revealing Tips for Cabin Crew Interviews!] I reckon I passed the interview thanks to this... [Behind story on her resignation] I remember the day when I handed in notice. Can you share the qualifications when you applied for Korean Air ? [Everything for cabin crew] You can be a cabin crew! Hello, everyone! I'm going to take some time for Q&A about being a flight attendant with you today. I've received many questions related to flight attendant from many people even before this session. After I announced that I'm going to have Q&A, I received even more questions about flight attendants. So, I'm going to carefully go through all of your questions and answer them one by one. Let's start with the first question! 'Tell us about your last flight' [My last flight] Well, about my last flight... After I determined to resign I had to take a few more trips. My last long-haul flight was to Boston and there were three days in Boston until returning to Korea. But it was a bit outside town pretty much suburb area. And I had to stay in hotel for entire three days. [At a hotel equipped with kitchen facilities] So I bought some meat, grilled it on the pan with some guacamole. I had like a beef steak with guacamole. [Staycation in Boston] That was quite lovely. I had a pretty nice relaxing time. [Her special meal in Boston] [On the resignation day] I still remember the day when I handed in resignation vividly. On my last day after finishing the shooting I had to pick my suitcase, uniform and the rest of my belongings by myself and return them all with my resignation letter. [A long-awating moment] I wanted to quit my job a long time... But, after I completed the resignation letter I felt a bit strange in my heart. I thought it would be more like bittersweet. But it was just bitter. [End of being a flight attendant] Yes, at that time, I was a bit emotional. [Photos last forever] So I took a lot of photos. One of them where I was looking at my ID card like this in front of the company building. [It's been quite a while already... / The day I returned my uniform with mixed feelings] [On the way to resignation] [Bye, Korean Air] But I had a belief of that it was a right choice for me [A Choice for a Brighter Future] that will bring me a brighter future so I wasn't just sad. 'Do you not regret quitting the flight attendant?' 'Curious if you have any other plan for your profession' [Do you not regret quitting the flight attendant?] Well, since I left my previous job it's been a slightly over a year now. Now I think I miss that time a bit. It was such a great experience for sure. I miss it a lot actually. Especially, the moment when I had to stay over the night with my colleagues having coffee together and had a little chit-chat about boyfriend and family etc. And woke up after the small talk. Now all these good memories stumbled upon my mind. [Miss the moment as a flight attendant] Lately, I've been missing that times. [No regret] but no regret though. [Only for the memory] I only miss the memory. I really enjoy sharing many different parts of my life [Grateful for this moment] as a YouTuber and influencer to all of you. I will focus on my current happy life that I've been given to myself. [Keep going on as Pro-YouTuber] I'm not planning on looking for anything else. The next question, 'What was the most difficult part when you were preparing to become a flight attendant?' [the most difficult part when you were preparing to become a flight attendant?] A lot of things are challenging. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of things to prepare not only for a flight attendant position but also to other professions. The thing is you have to go on a diet. [Upset] I really don't know why I have to do a diet, but I had to do it back then. The task itself was really tough for me and even I had to go on a diet and that was the most challenging part. 'Have you ever met a celebrity on a plane?' [Have you ever met a celebrity on a plane?] Well, since I work in economy class and celebrity usually fly in a business or first class not in economy class so I didn't have a chance to serve any celebrity personally. 'Any common characteristics or similarities among other cabin crews around you and your colleagues?' [Common for flight attendant] There are some! They have a common characteristic. [Obviously not everyone] Not everyone is extravert but somehow they should be as it's kind of hospitality. If someone tries to survive with an introverted personality I suppose that it is not possible. So, generally flight attendants are more cheerful and outgoing or at least pretend to be that way. I think that's the most common thing. 'What do you like about being cabin crew?' [What I Liked About Being a Flight Attendant] Well. the positive sides.. there are a lot! [Good days] too many! Above all, what I enjoyed the most was being able to treat my parents to an overseas trip. [fulfilling / happy] It was the most proud of thigns I've done in my life. My parents have never been abroad. Since I become a flight attendant Going to travel abroad together with my mom and dad was truly the best part for me. [Proud of myself] you know, something I felt like I've grown well.. The staff discount doesn't only apply for me but also for my parents and my spouse in the future. and my spouse in the future. If I ever get married, to my spouse and their parents as well I can easily provide discount tickets. [90% Discount applied] Because there's a 90% discount applicable. That's one of the best perks. [Flight Attendant TMI] For instance, Asiana Airlines flight attendants get discounts only with Asiana and Jeju Air attendants with Jeju Air. "There are many good stories about you, what's the secret?" [The Truth Behind the Good Stories] I didn't know I had many good stories. First of all, in this world of flight attendants [Survival Tips in the World of Flight Attendants] To survive and to be favored there's a phrase you must always keep in mind. I will do it. I will do it. I will do it. [My Personal Tips for Gaining Favor.] You must always have these words ready. If you do, you can be favored and things will be smoother. "Why I wanted to become a flight attendant." [The Reason for Becoming a Flight Attendant] Since I was young my family's financial situation was always difficult. We struggled with poverty Despite that, I always thought "I must succeed no matter what." "I have to become someone great and help everyone." After becoming an adult, I pondered "What can I do? [Days when I did my best in the given circumstances] What can I strive for with what I have now?" That's why I chose to become a flight attendant. After becoming one I developed another desire to become a great person to truth succeed. A strong belief and confidence in this goal took a significant place in my mind. "When becoming a flight attendant are there things that make you more likely to be selected in an interview?" For example, does a certain height increase your chance, like that..." [Flight attendanct interview tips] Height is important because you need to be able reach the overhead compartments so you must be at least 160 cm tall. Once you meet the height requirement there aren't many external factors. The interview is everything for flight attendants. The interview is everything. You can turn the situation around or lose it in interview. To win in the interview [Image making] image making is very important, I believe. When I was interviewing I constantly thought about what image I would portray and how I would appeal to the interviewers. I was like this. calm yet bright. I haven't succeeded in all interviews and have failed a few times so I had set this image for myself. In one interview, I was too bright saying, "I love pork belly!" and then I failed. After that, I seriously thought, "What is my image? What suits me," and set this image for myself. I aimed to be calm yet bright trustworthy and someone who likes people. I created this image with such keywords and repeated it as I entered the interview room. [Important eye contact in interview] Eye contact is also important in interviews. Unconsciously, while thinking of answers you might look at the ceiling. [Essential eye contact during interviews] But you shouldn't do that in interviews. Constant eye contact with the interviewer and unspoken communication are important. Even when other applicants are answering you must show that you are listening attentively. While answering maintain eye contact with the interviewers. This is also necessary. Interview essential tip! I did something essential [Revealing my interview secret?] in the interview room. I think it was thanks to this. But if I quit being a flight attendant I could teach it in private lessons [Hidden tip kept secret] I thought I must teach it to student or those private lessons. [First time reveal] I'll tell you now. [My little tip] It's nothing big... but in the interview room I wasn't alone. It was a group interview so I didn't know when my turn would come. They ask a common question and when it's my turn I.. [Not answering immediately in my turn] I don't answer immediately but create a brief silence... With the silence even the interviewers who weren't looking at me would think "Why isn't she answering?" [Attention / Fixed] They start looking at me. I make them all look at me. And then, in that moment [I show everything I've prepared.] I make it so that they can't not choose me. [Success, come to me.] That's the kind of presence I aim to have. After not responding immediately and creating a brief silence. [A brief silence of three to five seconds is enough!] About three to five seconds is enough. After a brief silence I start with "Yes, interviewer." So I think... This played a big role for me. [Interview mode on] Yes, interviewer. "I'm preparing to be a flight attendant, how did you write your personal statement or response?" [Tips for writing personal statements] Personal statements are important because you need to pass the document stage to get a chance to appeal to the interviewers in the actual practical interview. [Preparing documents for interviews step 1 is company analysis.] First, company analysis is essential for the document interview. As you search through their website you can find their desired candidate profile including keywords and phrases. [Preparing documents for interviews setp 2 is finding kewrods.] Keywords are crucial in document interviews. [(Many) / (personal statements)] "I wonder if the company could read all these personal statements." [Incorporating core and keywords] So, I made an effort to include key points, keywords, and specific word. "Can you tell us about your qualifications when you were accepted by Korean Air?" "I'm curious about details like your English scores and certifications." [Korean Air acceptance qualifications] You might be surprised but I only had TOEIC. [Only one TOEIC score in the 800s.] I only had a TOEIC score in the 800s. I didn't major airline service, or graduate 4-year university. I didn't major airline service, or graduate 4-year university. I only had TOEIC score. I knew I had a huge disadvantage but I was really determined to make a difference at the interview. So I applied to as many companies as I could. So, if you think you are not ready because you don't meet a certain qualification for example, 'I'll apply next time', 'I'll apply when I'm ready' I advise you not to do that. [Our time is precious] Age is also important to cabin attendants. Even just becoming one year older is a huge risk factor. [Apply when you get the chance] If you have a chance just apply to the company, even if you think you don't meet all the qualifications. [Be brave and apply] Be confident that you can make difference at the interview. 'I'm curious how you studied English.' [How to study English] I didn't spend a long time to become a cabin attendant so my experience of studying English is just getting a short TOEIC lessons. Other than that I was in a cabin attendant study group where we prepared for English interview. [Practice English speaking with other students] So, I practiced English speaking with other group members. 'Advantages of Korean Air' [Advantages of Korean Air] What's good about Korean Air is that once you become a full time employee you will have your own room. You know how having your own room makes a huge difference in the quality of your life. [2-year intern after entering Korean Air] Korean Air has 2-year intern period once you get in. During those two years [Interns will have one room for two people] you will share a room with another roommate. Once you finish the intern period you will finally get your own room. [However!] But the thing is you don't automatically become a full time employee after you finish the intern period. It will be decided whether you are qualified to become a full time employee based on the evaluation of your two year intern period. So, you need to do really well for the two years to receive good score. [2nd Advantage of Korean Air] You can have menstrual leave every month. This is a huge advantage. 'Pros and cons of LCC and FSC.' [Pros and cons of LCC and FSC] First, Korean Air has a lot of long distance routes. The longer the distance, the longer you stay overseas. It's not just the time you are overseas, but you will stay longer in the air as well. [Make sure to maintain your health] You will be spending almost a whole day inside an airplane. Also, you will provide a whole lot of services. For passengers, having many services is a good thing. But for the attendants, you will be constantly providing services to the passengers. [Short route and long route each have its own pros and cons] So some prefer long distance route, while others prefer short distance route more. In case of short routes it is more bothersome that you have to commute everyday but you can still go back home after work. I preferred long distance flight at first but later I started to prefer shorter flights more [Gym after work is a must] because I can go to gym after work. Also, those who are married, or have children definitely prefer short distance routes, because they have to take care of their babies. So, even the attendants working in FSC, such as Korean Air depending on their situations might decide to move to LCCs. 'Hi Haeun, I'm on a very strict diet since I want to become a cabin attendant.' 'How much weight should I lose? I'm 170cm tall.' [Diet when preparing for cabin attendants] Personally I really don't know why you must lose your weight to become a cabin attendant. But they say you should so you do it. You have to meet the demands from the company, and not demand the company what to do. So you have to adapt. There is no specific number you have to reach. If you look healthy, [Health is the priority!] on the outside, that is good enough. 'I'm 26 and preparing to become a cabin attendant.' 'I'm expecting it will take about a year to study and get necessary certificates.' 'I really wanted to ask you, whether it's not too late for me.' [Regarding the age] I mentioned that you should not miss an application just because you don't meet certain qualifications. Also, 27 is definitely not too late. When I joined the airline there were 31-year-old. Also, there were employees who are 32, or 30 on other years as well. 27 is very common. So [Don't be anxious about age!] don't consider yourself too old for it. Focus on getting prepared. I think Korean Air is less strict about age compared to other airlines. If you are at your early 30s, I don't think you should worry not to mention those who are in their 20s. 'Should I quit my current job to become cabin attendant? Or should I get prepared while working?' [Quitting your current work] I'd say you should keep your job while studying to become a cabin attendant. There is no guarantee that you will become a cabin attendant right away. [Don't go all in with the preparation] Preparing to become a cabin attendant isn't everything. The time will pass and you don't know when you will be hired. So, if you can keep your job I'd say you keep going there while you apply to airlines and do your interviews on your day-off. That's the best approach. You can work while applying to become a cabin attendant. So, don't quit your job while you keep trying. 'I've been working at a company for a while, but I don't have the courage to quit.' 'How did you decide to leave Korean Air?' [Courage to quit?] For me it was difficult for me as well to decide to leave Korean Air. It's a great company. It's a job that suits me so well and it's a profession that everyone envies. [It wasn't easy to give up this familiar job.] I had this anxiety of, "Will I be able to find a job as good as this one?," or "Will I be able to have another stable job like this one?" Despite my fears I had a belief that overcame them. I loved my job as a flight attendant and it suited me perfectly but I always had [The buring ambition within me.] the ambition to become more than that. Therefore, I always intended to resign. However, since the job was so good, such a great fit, and made me happy I couldn't quit. The opportunity for a TV appearance came along, as flight attendants can't have a second job I had no choice but to resign. [TV appearance as a decisive factor] The TV appearannce was a decisive factor in making up my mind. [Ambition fueled by courage] So, after appearing on "Transfer Love," I decided to resign. "I'm a high school senior who has applied to six place. "I'm terrified of being rejected by all and not confident in doing well in interview. I'm curious about your unique way of overcoming anxiety." [Methods to alleviate anxiety / Tips for reducing anxiety during interviews] I have one method to alleviate anxiety during interviews. As I mentioned before, eye contact and where you look during an interview are really important, right? [The challenge of dealing with anxiety despite knowing what to do.] But it's so nerve-wracking. I was so nervous. Do you know the technique of looking while having blurry eyes? It's like, I'm looking at this person, but they appear blurry to me. In a group interview think that you will be the one who gets selected. "It's me. I'll get in." [(Being selected) / (Me)] You need to think "I will be the one who gets in." And before the interview everyone has their own way of relieving tension. I've had many interviews and know this. Some people chat and make friends to relieve tension and some listen to music alone. I just quietly, by my self... [(Calming nerve through mind control)] "I am this kind of person, I am calm, I am bright." I kept repeating this to myself. I kept controlling my mind because ultimately, it's about having confidence in yourself so I think that should help in alleviating anxiety. "Preparing for the aviation department, I feel inferior because there are so many beautiful friends around me. Did you ever feel a decrease in self-esteem while preparing to become a flight attendant?" [Self-esteem regarding appearance] Of course. Why are there so many beautiful people in the world? Honestly, I've always had a small dream of becoming a flight attendant since I was young. But seeing how pretty my friends who were preparing for the entrance exams were [(Feeling small) / Gave up on the dream because of those around] I thought, "I just shouldn't do it." But being a flight attendant is not about being pretty. If you become one, you'll realize it's not about being pretty but about having your own strengths. You need something of your own to appeal. Appearance is absolutely nothing and it's something you can completely overturn. Keep that in mind. [It's important to develop your own strengths.] You should definitely develop other strengths. "I'm a student who failed the entrance exam. I want to live happily, but I keep feeling restricted. I'm someone who can score 200 but I feel I like I'm trapped in 20. How can I live happily and splendidly?" [How to become a happy person.] You're feeling very depressed and have low self-esteem due to failing the entrance exam. I can feel so much sadness... [The sadness felt in the message.] In this message. But, you know in life failing an entrance exam or a university might seem huge but it's actually nothing, right? But the good thing is You know you're someone who can score 200. so it's just a temporary confinement to 20. Just for a moment. I hope [Let's quickly achieve 200!] you break through and emerge quickly. By receiving these questions I can feel everyone's concerns and it reminds me a lot of the past. Actually, even if you perfectly complete the specifications for being a flight attendant. It's difficult because there's no standard. But the most important thing is your conviction about yourself. Continue with that conviction and belief and keep striving. Don't lose your dreams and keep challenging yourself. Alright, that's the end of my Q&A about being a flight attendant. I hope your questions were answered. And I support your dreams. Definitely become my junior. Goodbye.
