[Music] this just reminds me of the end of step brothers [Music] what up guys it is your boy matt from ramsayvoice.com and i am so excited that you're here because if you're here it means that you are ready to experience another mind-blowing reaction video uh analysis uh technique critique um and i'm doing this to some of my favorite singers but obviously i'm doing it for you guys so i'm actually responding to as many comments as i can right now and so many people have been requesting this young man joshen i put this into google translate earlier and uh it's uh i guess it's pronounced joe shen or something like that i i'm so bad at getting the actual uh the uh intonation right uh with chinese even though i have a couple of chinese students and i'm really learning so much about the absolute beauty of the chinese language uh so i'm sure you're gonna murder me in the comments but let me know the right way to pronounce it i heard it was jo shen let's see if that's actually correct i do not know today i'm going to be reacting to joshen's performance of the song time to say goodbye which i assume is in reference to the andrea bocelli and sarah brightman uh duet i think that was shot in like the 80s um is really really cool sarah brightman obviously uh from phantom of the opera andrea bocelli composer singer fantastic fantastic performer and voices and this is from something called super vocal which describes itself as a blend modern and classical singing styles so i think that's going to be really interesting because everything that i teach even though i teach really modern singing techniques has a lot of classical influence in it specifically from the belcanto era of italian classical singing where there are lots of uh kind of uh i should say like parameters and ideas um about the way that singing should be done in that certain vowels should be pronounced in a very relaxed way the jaw should be relaxed the larynx should be balanced it shouldn't be too high or too low and there should be an ability to bridge uh in a beautiful way from the chest voice up to the head voice and back down so i'm really excited to see um how this gets interpreted uh by apparently a chinese singer on a chinese tv show it's going to be really really cool so kind of an east meets west kind of thing by the way make sure that you stick around until the very end of the video because i can't wait to share one of my favorite new segments with you it's called two minute tutorials and in two minutes i'm going to try to explain a technique that joshen is using here uh and how you can actually put it into practice in your own singing voice so without further ado let's just jump in here and watch joshen's performance of time to say goodbye [Music] this just reminds me of the end of step [Music] brothers [Music] wow [Music] [Laughter] up to a c5 flawlessly so he's doing the sarah brightman part flawlessly is the only thing that i would hear to know that this was a man [Music] that is wild [Music] wow up to a g5 [Music] so flawlessly [Music] and he doesn't even have to drop his jaw too much up there in order to get that very very interesting we got a key change here [Music] wow okay up to an a5 there flawless still [Music] he sings an italian beautifully too [Music] i don't know if that's the andrea bocelli track in the back [Applause] whoa oh my god guys whoa this just blew my mind look at that guy that guy has no idea what just happened to his eyeballs into his ears i have no idea what just happened to my eyeballs in my ears well this is such a fantastic fantastic opportunity uh to talk about and this is gonna be our two minute tutorial today we're gonna talk about voice type so we're going to put two minutes on the clock and i want to explain one of the rarest voice types to you and that is that of the counter tenor and the counter tenor is the highest male voice type exceptionally rare kind of like the contralto in female voices and i know that a lot of people are going to disagree with me right here that's totally fine i have a fantastic article and video for you guys to check out if you're interested in learning a little bit more about voice types i'll make sure to link that at the end but basically what we're looking at here the voice type is the voice classification oftentimes uh it's uh to do mostly with a singer's range but that is far from the only uh dictating factor in determining a singer's voice type like bass baritone tenor counter tenor etc and for women it would be the contralto alto mezzo soprano and soprano now what i find super super interesting about joshen here is that i have not heard his other performances and before i bite my tongue off and say something that i'm going to regret i really believe that he probably is a counter tenor it is exceptionally difficult to sing those high of notes uh in that relaxed of a fashion so one of the biggest factors that you look at in determining a singer's voice type is their tessitura the place in their voice where they feel the most comfortable and their voice shines i'd be really interested to see how low his voice goes some men's voices just have an exceptional range and can sing very very low all the way to very high another singer that comes to mind would be dimash in this particular case i didn't hear any of his low notes he basically sang the sarah brightman part the entire time and you just saw how easy those high of notes were and he was staying up there he just stayed up there i mean i can barely i can barely hit those notes and i've been training my voice for years and for him it just seemed so easy and he barely had to drop his jaw you could tell just how relaxed and easy it was for him and this right here is kind of the hallmark of a higher male voice type like a counter tenor um you know i can hit those notes but can i make them seem as easy as he can no and it's not just a training thing i mean i've been training for a very very long time i assume he's been training for a very long time but for him it's just so much easier again it's possible that he just has an exceptionally high range and he's able to hit those notes a lot more easily because he just has more range but my guess is this that is actually one of the very very rare voice types which would be the counter tenor which would be basically equivalent to the mezzo soprano of the female voice type in which sarah brightman is plays between that mezzo and that soprano range all the time so this is a phenomenal learning opportunity and i'm definitely going to have him onto my list of counter tenors to demonstrate to other students so they can hear someone singing in their head voice so flawlessly so beautifully guys absolutely fantastic performance blew me away five stars to mr joshen i'm gonna try to say it with the intonation that i think is correct i've no idea if it's right or not please correct me help me out here i thank you guys so much for
