REAL LIFE AIR DRUMMING? Ft. AeroBand PocketDrum 2 Plus

[Music] hey what's up everybody so if you're like me uh if a great song comes on it doesn't matter where you are you're going to start air drumming to it I mean I I literally consciously have to like stop myself from slamming my arms through the air or beating on the things around me uh it's just it's a drama problem but I will say that you know it's always been the ideal to have the capability to just you know whip out a pair of sticks and play drums wherever you are and so today we are checking out the arob band pocket drum 2 plus which is truly Wireless drumsticks uh you can also bring the foot pedals with you if you want to bring those as well and they're Wireless they just connect and sit on the floor so you can you could literally play drums anywhere we're going to try it out uh I'm going to put them to the test I'm going to throw some songs on that just make me want to play drums see what happens I'll show you my experience with the pocket drum 2 plus and we'll see you know it's it's a difficult technology but I think that uh it can be done and I think that if it's done well it's a lot of fun so let's check it out should I make you should I make you wait the entire [Music] time but I've been waiting for this moment for all my life [Music] oh [Music] [Music] no stick tricks casy [Music] uhoh they ain't ready for it they ain't ready for it I think we got [Music] it right on that floor [Music] time going R it taking that time [Music] oh lay it [Music] down that's right little high hat [Music] there all right so now you've seen me play and have a little fun with the aob band pocket drum 2 plus let me show you a little bit about it explain it some so in the Box you get your two aob band pocket drum 2 plus sticks uh they're a little shorter than standard drumsticks which makes them more compact easier to carry uh they also don't taper off at the end which I assume is to fit all the technology inside and overall the weight balance is pretty good I mean it feels a little bit shorter but um it's not like oh these are weird this doesn't feel anything like drumsticks like it's pretty close the overall size is uh a little bit thicker than a 5B I would say um it also comes with the adapter this can clip straight to your waist uh you can hook up your headphones to it you can also run audio into it if you want to uh also listen to like songs you've got volume adjustment on there you've got different sounds of the drums and I'll show you that in a minute when I turn it on and then you've also got two foot pedals a kick pedal and a high hat pedal and you can actually hit a few things on the adapter here to change it to double kick mode so both both of these will be kick drums and so you can play double based stuff um outside of that it's pretty simple to turn on you just hold the power button and uh you can adjust the volume here then you can hold these turn them on and then hit them once while they're at like a 40 to 60° flat angle to calibrate boom now the actual placement of the drums is also an interesting thing because you've got two different planes so instead of thinking front to back you think down and up so on flat you've got snare floor tom high hat at an angle up not vertically up but at an angle up you now have your Toms and crash and [Music] ride so you see how it's all about that angle flat angle flat angle angle flat angle flat I'm hitting it about the same place but it's all about angle flat you could [Music] go for the most part it's all snare through here but you go up from those coms so that's the one thing you kind of got to figure out outside of the calibration but then once you figure it out it should be as easy as high hat move over to the high hats snare [Music] kick down [Music] angle down so you can see that this is uh a relatively accurate system as long as you are hitting in the areas that it is determined and you've calibrated the drumsticks then you can get some really good results now you cannot buy something like this any of the products out there you cannot buy any of them expecting them to be 100% perfect so that is a thing that I knew going into uh trying out these pocket drum 2 plus uh sticks and the setup is that it's not going to to be perfect this technology is Affordable and something you can get your hands on and to fit all that into the sticks and to make it Wireless and make it something that like you can just take with you like there's going to be some like it's never going to be 100% perfect tracking without extremely high level equipment if you can even do it to where the the the drumming experience is exact and that's the thing is that this is not replacing drums this is not like hey if you get this you're never going to want a drum set in your entire life like no this is you can practice your rhythms you can have fun you can challenge your friends you can play with your friends you can like take it with you you it's a it's something to do when you're bored it's something to do when you want to play drums but you can't you're going to Thanksgiving at your grandma's house you don't have a drum set you still want to practice you still want to play you still want to have some fun like this is this is a tool that is also like a toy you know know it's not it's not something that is uh you know going to replace drums forever it's not something that's going to keep you from ever wanting a drum set but if you don't have the cash for an electronic drum set and you just want something to play around with when you can't play acoustic drums or you know like there's a lot of situations where this makes sense and it's fun and it's great uh as long as you have realistic expectations for it um outside of that there are some other cool features um like I said you can change the voicings let me show you that so we've got voice One Voice two voice three voice four voice five Voice six voice seven voice eight voice I think maybe nine or maybe back to uh to one there but it is it is cool to have different options also if you want double base mode you hold the volume plus and minus at the same time for about 3 seconds makes that sound and here we go recalibrate [Music] uhoh [Music] is [Music] so yeah you got lots of options you can also do midi uh Bluetooth or plugged into the USB on the adapter so that you can connect to a laptop to a phone to another device and you can use midi on like GarageBand or Ableton um also midi for like a lesson so like if you ever heard of melodics they have these like video gamey drum lessons kind of thing uh that connects via midi to go in and like see if you're playing in time and are you hitting the right thing it's it's pretty cool um and so you can actually use these via midi to try out a lesson like that or to use it to program drums in garage band or use a virtual software instrument and so there's a lot of extra things that the pocket drum plus can do and at the end of the day it's fun you can mess around with it and the more that you learn the the more you get better with your placements and and all of that the better that you can be with the actual pocket drum 2 plus and uh it's it's the joy of drumming and that's something that I like about products like these is that you know they they aren't perfect there are things about them like you have to you have to figure them out you have to get better at them you have to understand that every once in a while you're not going to trigger the exact note you want to trigger and that's okay but it's the joy of playing music and doing something you love the smile that's been on my face the whole time my kids kids have been begging me to let them play with it and I told them like let me get the video done first and then we can all play with it together and I'm excited about that like it's going to be so much fun to sit down and let my kids play around with it my daughter came in and started hitting the foot pedals and like they're just pumped about it because it's music and it's fun and it's enjoyable so it's a great gift for a kid it's a great gift for a beginner drummer it's a great gift for anybody who like wants to sit down and have some fun even if you're not a drummer like that's the thing about it is that it's low volume not a lot of cost involved like it's something you can just do because you want to because you you want to have fun because you want to try it out um that's the thing about drums is like I think it's the most accessible instrument outside of the volume and difficulty and size of the actual instrument so when you have something like this it becomes so accessible because now there's no volume component and there's no size component you can just try to be a drummer you can just have
