Wow. I did not expect to stumble upon this on youtube. This is Peter Macintosh's documentary, the one I tried to buy but the links were dead. Peter Macintosh has uploaded it to youtube himself.
Wow. Wow! This doco is a surprisingly good mishmash of footage.
Mieko's childhood sounds very difficult, and I am glad that maiko now do not get sold to the karyukai, or resort to becoming a maiko or geiko out of financial necessity.
I thought Haruno was Miehina's biological mother, but she isn't.
I saw Shuji, the otokoshi who unfortunately died recently from cancer.
I learned that Umechika has a kawaii voice, and that Toshiharu left to get married and start a family.
Ichiwaka was a maiko I hadn't heard of before, and I am confused by her wearing a white eri yet a junior maiko's December kanzashi and wareshinobu. I think they she must have been in that unusual phase that Marika is right now, where she is a great dancer yet a bit too young for senior status. She later retired as a geiko.
I'd really like to find out about Mamefuku's store.
Bacon and egg sushi looks disgusting, and Miehina trying Guinness is adorable.
Wow, thanks for posting this!
I have been looking for this forever, and I'm so glad Peter Macintosh posted it himself. Thank you!
