it seemed like everyone in the courtroom today almost gasped when 21-year-old Dorian Lucas read his letter the judge later said it vividly showed he had no remorse for his deadly crimes and sentenced Lucas to 25 years in prison earlier this month Lucas pleaded guilty to four charges steming from three separate crimes in October 2010 he was running from police when he hit Natasha lawet she died 6 weeks after the accident police were still investigating the fatal crash in April 2011 when Lucas shot and killed his friend Jamal Moore inside a West Grand View apartment this video contains the interview of a man who shot and killed another gang member Dorian L Lucas had a long history of violence in his juvenile record this pattern continued into adulthood as he became more entrenched with the Dayton view Hustlers a local gang Lucas had avoided arrest for various charges including vehicular homicide but his criminal run ended when he was brought in for the shooting of Jamal Moore Lucas and Moore had been arguing and as the fight became more heated guns were pulled Lucas shot Moore seven times and several of the shots were in Moore's back as he tried to flee Moore lived for 9 minutes after the shooting as he attempted to crawl from the apartment um this was just that you saw me write the information wrote the date time and then all the information um that I just asked you I'm going to interview you in regards to the crime of murder before we ask you any questions I want to make sure you understand you're right can you read WR number one out loud to me the detective doesn't waste any time dancing around the issue Lucas knows why he has been brought in so she is going to start with the direct approach rather than leading up to the accusation gradually I think you know dating okay and who I want to talk to you is about Molly Jamal Moore okay I know you guys were like friends forever you guys grow up together okay I've talked to a lot of people who you talk to and I think some things that you need to tell me what happened that day Lucas has given the news that the detective has already talked to other people he has no way of knowing what was said and whether or not he will be able to get away with lying cuz I think somebody else was involved with this shooting with him like Jason Sher specifically okay it was serious they really thought I did that now I know you did it Dorian I know because you told a lot of people and all these people have come forward I've got the gun it matches this is something you just you need to talk about and get off your chest didn't he he was doing that even he was doing that almost every day even though I was stupid and still coming around cuz you don't do that to people you love or anything so I was taking him serious then um sh sh and Rocky Rob Shar and Rocky Rob Rocky Rob he the dude he he got killed in Hamilton he got killed in Hamilton like Rocky Rob yeah he his real name Rob or something he grown he grown he just died in helmon he got shot up okay um Molly we all used to not work for him but we used to trap for him like he was like the plug tell me what trap is I don't know what that means hustling trying to get some money okay were you selling drugs for sure um I was not selling drugs for Sharon I was not selling drugs for nobody I was selling for yourself when I was selling okay and I stopped selling cuz i i i c of charged that I ain't I even was not even selling at the time even though I was selling and they caught me but I ain't have nothing but they were saying they found drugs on me so I stopped selling to beat my charge but I was going to court and they told me it was not me so I left um but Shar and Rocky Rob they used to I don't know if they used to joke with Mary but they used to always say we got money on your head we going to get you mer we going to get you mer then they used to try to tell me about it like cuz we used to be arguing and they be saying it to me like bro when you going to take him serious you know he kill Lonzo when you going to take him serious no you talking about Molly taking him serious no they telling me yeah Tak him Molly serious know he killed Alonzo and he shot the dude BG that's um TR or travor he just he killed the boy on popey and on the news it said he beat it for selfdefense but he killed D he was trying to rob D and he killed him but they I guess he told the story that dude tried to Rob him but no mly popped him so they telling me like he already killed Lonzo he killed he popped BG just couple weeks ago what you going to do you going to take him serious and I kept saying like he ain't serious he the B got me I don't keep no strap he had the B got me so um we just arguing then one day um I think Easter we get the arguing we get the arguing and he aimed his gun at me then R and Jimmy and know they bought guns L he bought a gun and Shar he had two guns he had a 38 and a 45 Molly had a 45 it was a it was a tech and the M90 like and he fooling fooling mhm I go to school went to school then um and this is Friday morning right this Friday like 11 or 12 okay I go to school then my [ __ ] Kenny he called me like yeah I'm going come pick you up from school then I'm like all right I'm about to leave he like where you about to go I'm like [ __ ] I'm about to go out of town but everybody knew I was going out of town this been my biggest thing I was telling everybody about I'm about to go to Georgia to go to school I was they was telling me I couldn't leave cuz I was going to court but after I started going to court and they was telling me it was not me cuz I was signing myself in there's a place downtown you got to go in a big building go upstairs and get in a drug program and they was telling me go to school go to the job center get food stamps all that so you know I did all that they they a say out nothing so you feel me it's the weekend I'm already planning to leave that's why I never taking nobody serious I'm just thinking they getting mad at me cuz I'm getting at getting out I'm telling I don't want part I'm cool but I changed my life around so so that's when Kenny dropped me off at our apartment on Maine I get dropped off then I go to Georgia then I don't even think Saturday morning I was getting phone calls Molly de Molly de is you all right cuz you be in the spot with him I'm like yeah I'm the same no more he he even tried to kill me I had to take off running Lucas is trying to convince the detective that his life was in danger this was true at least to some extent just because of the pull up my daddy I'mma kill you so don't be here so I went to school to give him time to to clear TR to chill out a little bit okay then we went to the apartment me and Kenny we went to our apartment we went to the apartment I'm calling Shar like bro come you got to come to me I'm not coming over here I'm cool you got to come to me he keep saying I'mma Be Here I'mma Be there and that's one of my little [ __ ] Anisha she was telling me she was could still on her way to come get me cuz I was coming down there to go to school then I left okay you know what I think happened I think you went to the spot and then Molly pulled out a gun and he was threatening you and then you shot him in self-defense that's what I think happened rather than accuse Lucas of murder outright the detective gives him a chance for a partial admission by saying it was self defense that would make sense that makes a lot more sense than what you're trying to tell me don't you agree cuz you knew there were guns there and Molly's been picking on you and picking on you and picking on you for the last couple weeks I think that's what happened Dorian Doran we've talked earlier about being honest and everything and how it'll make you feel a lot better and that sounds is a lot more logical than what I've just listened to okay look at me I know you're really scared and this is horrible and you didn't mean for it to happen but I think it is bre I never it's like I'm always the bad guy man I don't think you were the bad guy in this okay I think I think Molly's the one that that pulled out the gun first I have the hardened shell that is used to cover up any type of fear most brag about threats and acts of violence against him and boast how they took care of the problem this is not the first death Lucas shot him because the same bullet casings from the gun were out here and this little I don't want to say it's a hallway but it's you know that little area before you go into all the bedrooms do you remember doing that I just I probably was still shooting when I'm ran out the room okay but okay now this is a big question I'm going to ask you okay this is the kitchen okay did you did you do any shooting in this kitchen no okay okay I know that's a truthful answer we didn't find any bullet casings there Molly was shot in the ass three times okay so that means he he either was running from you and you shot at him or that's probably when I said when I when I fell in the room MH when I thought I was shot and I just went out shooting and he probably moved or anything cuz I a't get pop him I you remember him falling over the chair no okay but you pretty you do you think would it be a fair statement to say you shot until the gun went empty cut no it's not fair it wouldn't be a fair it's just like if they when they kicked well they they kick in the house this morning if they would kicked it in and we just let off one shot they would just got to shoot it it's just like anybody no I I was not trying to kill Molly I'm probably still in denial cuz it happened but no like I'm in denial CU I couldn't that's no Molly was trying to get me okay and every time you you go to a window I I picked up the strap cuz I was scared and I went to look at the windows and I knew something fishy was going to happen cuz it ain't no reason they just call me Doran he called me DeLorean Dorian he said DeLorean though but Lo like Dorian go check the go check it and that's when he said it to like yeah do take your [ __ ] ass go check the windows and then that's when you went here and then you went here and then Molly came in here I don't think he know I had that gun I put I took it off the couch what kind of do you know what kind of gun he had when he came in the bedroom he had that four he had his 4 five aimed at me he had a 4 five okay okay I know it ain't going to help me in cour or nothing I'm sorry it a mly he was trying to kill me I I wanted to come to the police but I can't these are people that's help like taking care of me making sure I'm cool mhm I don't really got nobody or nothing Lucas leans hard into the claim that he was in fear of his life but that is going to be hard to convince a jury given the number of times more was shot Molly he brought he that happened it's not I'm not trying to say it to be a dog or nothing but he was GNA kill me okay and he and that's him was anybody else when when you ran out of the room and I think you were still shooting inside the room was Kenny and Lok and Jimmy out here still or do you remember you don't know okay I just know how to get up out of there okay which door did you leave the back door okay and Kenny obviously because it was Kenny's car that you were in or his girlfriend's car or his car right okay was Marcus there earlier Maris yeah Maris and I know the answer so be truthful bean I don't know Maris last time I seen him was that morning at his house then I went to the spot then I went to school I don't even think he know I went to school okay but I can't answer that I don't know did Kenny drive he he picked me up and no when you left here did Kenny drive or did you drive I was driving you were driving okay tell me where you put the guns and I know where they were cuz we have them where in the car did you put them I think cany put them in the glove Department okay and how many were there do you remember if I said there were three would that be probably about right cuz one for sure was her four five and then there were a couple other right 29 okay okay and then you guys dumped the car and then Kenny called his cousin is that about right then Raven dropped you off in this case can I talking Court too cuz I ain't trying to go to jail for murder it was not murder I thought I was dead man it for a hit cuz Shar set it up Shar had everything to do with it Shar was the monstermind they kept on saying that like we got I got paid for that when Shar got paid for it I a had nothing I not involved in none of that Shar knew everything he was he was not even trying to stop Molly he was going to let molly kill me sure was that was the plan it was no way if Molly caught me threatening me and you calling me telling me you need me in the morning meet you at the spot then I get there I come out to the car both of y'all in the car and Molly Own It aiming the gun and everything and he Tred to play it out I yell at Sher that's why I went to school I was scared I ain't turn to the L cuz good these people that take care of me this they were family right they but even though you had problems in the morning you went to school then you came back after a while cuz you thought maybe Molly was cooled off y don't y don't SLE no cases this easy do y'all we what got subtle cases this easy well you know sometimes things just kind of happen I know your sister she called me cuz she was scared for you she said she was going to try to tell you to come in and talk to me Lucas's family was concerned that he would be killed in retaliation depending on where he is placed while in jail it might make little difference to his safety and you talked to a couple people on the phone Kenny's scared for you do you think there's anything else that I need to know can you tell me what you think going happen I don't know I'm going to talk to the prosecutors and um see what but they're the ones that decide I just get the information I mean you know you're going to go to jail today you know that um but I tell you one good thing Dorian is um judges like it when people tell the truth or as close to the truth as they're going to and um and I think you're remorseful I think this has been bothering you for since it happened and um I think that's always taken into consideration it ain't it ain't going matter yes it will yes it will don't if there's anything else that you need to get off your chest Now's the Time to do it yeah okay we don't want to find something out you know down the road and then all this comes back all again okay so if there's other stuff that happened you need to tell this Detective let just St like what I mean anything else have you been involved in anything was here didn't you when I See Molly name you knew why I was here and that's what you have to do you you have to tell the truth and that's what a judge appreciates is you're being truthful you you want me over when you ask me was it is selfdefense I ain't going to lie that's I would rather tell you the truth that of cute line the [ __ ] myself up well the the problem with the self defense Dorian is Molly was shot so many times the detective is honest about Lucas's prospects she feels he has been largely honest about what happened but the number of times more was shot as well as several of them being to the back are going to damage his case and he was shot in the butt several times which means his back was to you at some point you're allowed to always protect yourself but once a threat stops you can't continue what about you ain't know you just was doing it just to move and and I understand I understand what you're saying um but I I think you shot till the gun was empty since when there wasn't any bullets left and that's that's the issue that that's the problem and I know you were scared and I have no doubt that um you know there there were guns in the house and Molly had a gun um but you can't continue continue continue continue after the threat's over and and the the shots in his butt are going to hurt you to be real honest they're going to hurt you because that means his back was to you when you shot him and it might have been when you were leaving the room I don't know you know when you were just shooting so I'm going to give you a few minutes going to take just like you you're not going to tell me anything about Kenny you weren't going to tell me anything about Kenny so Kenny's only telling me the least amount that it can so I I I think that you guys were arguing and there and I have uh I believe there were guns in that apartment you know but like I told you you're problem is that he was shot more than just once or twice for some reason Lucas expects the detective to advocate for him Beyond mentioning that he was cooperative there is very little that she can do you shot a lot of times and that's that that's a big hurdle that's a problem especially shot but CU that means he's turned away from you so but I appreciate you telling me what happened I believe your story I wish you would have come in you know back when it happened I understand why you didn't um it would have looked a lot better had you come in right after it happened um but judges like it when you tell the truth they always like it when you tell the truth because it means you're stepping up you know you're you're being a man and um and the fact that you were so emotional it means you have a heart you know you're not some hardcore [ __ ] out there you charges two of them involving the death of others his first victim Natasha Hill was killed when Lucas struck her car as he attempted to evade arrest the other victim was Jamal Moore who died from his
