well hello again everybody uh this is a video that i've really been looking forward to making i've been trying to get my hands on one of the new rcbs matchmasters for a while to compare it up against my auto trickler v3 as seen on the right here and i got to say a big thanks to my friend sam uh he's the owner of this matchmaster and he loaned it to me for the making of this video and a little bit of a spoiler alert he's not what you would say thrilled with his purchase of the match master so um you know we're gonna we're gonna kind of put it head to head up here against the auto trickler and see how it compares so let me get everything situated here and we'll get right into it okay so first things the powder we're going to be using is h-4350 again this is kind of keeping with the theme of saying thank you to sam because i believe h4350 is a powder that he uses pretty regularly for all of his reloading needs um so i've already got powder in the in the match master all you got to do there is just like any of the you know automatic dispensers you just take the cap off and and fill it full of powder and make sure your drains closed which we'll get into looking at the drain later but on the auto trickler here let me move the camera around a little bit so you can kind of see what's really going on it's a little different setup because there's there's two parts to this puzzle first thing this is very cool because the hopper just sits on and off and there's a little valve uh down here like you turn it that way to open it and then that way to to close it um if you can see there's a little x right there so you can put your powder in with the hopper on or off of the of the thing so we'll go ahead and just no reason to really fill it up too much so there's that and i'll sit this back on the back on the thing now there is another part to the auto trickler on the version threes there's the actual trickler part and you'll have to excuse the clutter here on my table i'm kind of running out of room for two scales of this size on this little small bench so you also have to put some powder in this thing and you know like if you've got any experience with tricklers how much you feel the little hopper up in there will affect the flow rate to some degree on the auto trickler another way to uh let me take the camera out of the tripod here another way to adjust the flow rate is this little uh kickstand looking the little third leg down here you can screw that in or out and it will tilt the uh you know the auto trickler down or up like that which will affect the flow rate um so let's get let's get back into position here it's always tricky working around a tripod now pay no attention to this little piece of wood with a hole in it that i've got a double-sided tape to the top of my auto trickler that's just um when i have my scales where i normally keep them that's just a little uh contraption i come up with to hold a powder funnel that's the only purpose it serves so uh let's let's start out with calibrating these things because that's something that uh you know everybody's gonna have to do eventually get the camera here in a good spot i think that's about as close as we're gonna get it on the rcbs over here you just hit the i think you take the pan off and just hit the calibrate button it's gonna say zero then you hit the calibrate button again and it's gonna ask for the 20 gram weight so there it is when the scale reads stable well i didn't mean to hit that button but it don't matter when the scale reads stable you hit the calibrate button again now it wants the 50 gram weight so we'll take the 20 off and the whole time i'm doing this i'm trying to be very mindful with my breath not not directing it towards the scale so i'm kind of looking away from the scale as i'm talking to you here um so now that the scale reads stable and 50 on the display hit the calibrate button again it should all be done it should go back to zero now and there it did so here's the pan that they send you with the the match master and i'm gonna just for the sake of being able to [Music] get the pan in and out of the scales a little bit easier i'm gonna take those things out because my finger constantly hits the the little handle on those weights now on the auto trickler over here you know obviously this is a an a and d scale you know auto trickler does not make the actual scales they just make the powder dispensing part um that goes with it so to calibrate these things um let me take my take my pan off here you hit the you press and hold the calibrate button or the cal button anyway and it says cal 0 then you hit the print button and that little triangle shows up there i guess that's just making sure it's zero then you take a 100 gram check weight this comes with the scales set that on your uh on your platform and put it all the way back there where where the pan would actually sit then you hit the print button again on these uh a and d scales the think of the print button is sort of like the enter button um and then you'll see that little triangle appear again and once it's done it'll just say end and it's all over so you've calibrated the scales so now you take take that off and it should read zero and i'm going to set my my pan back in there that is the stable indicator on these on these scales that little zero so now i'm gonna hit re-zero i need to re-zero the van over here now i know i've got a little tiny check weight here this is a three gram check rate checkway and the conversion to grains would be 46.28 or at least that's what it is on my a and d any uh right after i calibrated it i found this little check weight that i had laying around and i sit it on there and it should read 46.28 and as you can see it does and i keep that check weight just sitting around to where if i'm in the middle of a loading session i just kind of wonder if the scale is lost it's you know zero or or whatever like that i'll always throw that back on there and it usually either reads 0.26 or 0.28 and as you can see now it went back to 0.28 so that that way i know nothing you know has really moved around on the scale now let's see just for kicks i know we use different calibration weights and i have no way of calibrating my a and d with the matchmaster weights or vice versa that i know of so let's just see how close they are would you look at that that's pretty impressive 46.26 now as you can to and now it says 0.28 so it's actually going back and forth sort of just like the amd was so i mean that's that's saying a pretty good um you know some pretty good things about the scale on the match master um it's comparable it's at least thus far with the a and ds now obviously if you've read anything about the matchmaster you know it has two different dispensing modes it has the standard mode or the match mode the difference is in match mode you get two digits past the decimal point on on your charge weight there whereas if you're just in regular mode you just get you know to the 10th um so i figure if anybody's watching this video they are you know probably looking to be using the uh the match master when it is in match mode because i don't know why else you would pay 900 or at least that's kind of what the going price of a match master is right now as of october 2021 so i don't know why you'd pay 900 dollars to steal only way to the tenth of a grain so anyway let's um let's get into a little bit of powder dispensing here um now the matchmaster has four different speeds at which you can set it to dispense powder um the it's settings one through four four being the fastest and one being the slowest and rcbs recommends if you're using long stick powder like like imr 4064 or i guess even to a degree the h4 350 that we're using today they recommend being on the low side of that like powder speed one or two the way you set that is you hit let's just go with the two for now you hit number two and then you hit powder and if you you can see it said dispense two or something something of that nature now you have none of that on the auto trickler over here but what you do have on this is the v3 uh you have a conventional style powder measure uh metering chamber there so what you do is you'll have to adjust this thing and ideally what you want to do is have your measure drop about a grain to a grain and a half below your target way and then the trickler does the rest of the job and trickles it up now the version three is bluetooth compatible and this is what the app looks like on uh the uh on like a mobile device or whatever this is just an old phone i got laying around so i'm going to set a charge weight of 44 grains because i feel that's kind of what i did with all the other powder dispenser comparison videos and let's just set it and see what happens almost messed up right there for a second my oh let's see let me do this now if you lift the pan up like that it will stop the scales momentarily um so you can you can take it off what i forgot to do was rotate my valve open let's uh let's put some powder down the metering chamber now shall we all right now it will automatically detect that there's an empty pan on there and as you can see it only dispensed about 24 grains on that first throw that's because the last thing i was loading with this was some 223. so let's back this thing out and there are numbers engraved on the uh metering chamber here to kind of give you an idea where you need to be uh right now i've got the the four is exposed i think it was probably somewhere around 42 or so let's see what happens there okay see that time it went up to 36 so i'm gonna go ahead and give it a whole another rotation there and i'm just gonna go ahead and stop it let's start it again all right 39 i'm gonna go ahead and give it another heck i'm gonna give it two rotations a little bit of the trial and error here on the now the tripler would have eventually got it there okay so i overshot it i'm gonna go down one hole one whole rotation there on the on the metering during okay see now we're getting close i'm gonna tighten it up just a little bit more and the the way both of these scales operate is if their point .02 on either side of your charge weight they're happy that's when they stop so as you can see this one stopped on 43.98 and 44 was our was our target charge so if it would have hit 43.98 44 even or 44.02 that is considered you know within the the margin of error for this system and i'm pretty sure the the matchmaster is the same way so let's take the little protective caps here off one thing about these little protective caps or the tube covers here is there a little bit of a pain to get on because they they both kind of overlap now you may have noticed uh a kernel of powder did fallen in that pan just then and it read it so all right we're back on zero i'm gonna dispense 44 and go now we had this on powder setting two and as you can see it majorly overthrew just then and that is on powder setting too so let's maybe that was just its first its first attempt and it wasn't gonna it needs to get warmed up so let's try it again forty four point four so it over three by four tenths let's give it a try again since it got better 45.38 so i think you get the idea here that powder dispensing speed 2 is too fast so now i want to hit one powder as you can see it said dispense one and i'll have to type in 44 one more time after making that change all right let's see see if it does better now so you notice the the big tube stopped turning way earlier and now it's just the small trickling tube that's doing all the work there got it on 43.90 now just for kicks let me see if i've got a couple of little uh a little some little containers around here some extra powder pans uh yes i do let's just see how the how the scales weigh against each other um here's the the charge from the auto trickler is going to go in here so there's mono trickler charge now so this is 43.98 let's see what it reads over here on the auto trickler i'll go ahead and i'll just leave that sitting off so it don't throw another charge so 43.98 would you look at that 96 only 200 off let's see if it let's see if it goes back let's see if it repeats on 98 over here on the charge master i mean on the match master excuse me well now it says 96 so again these things are super sensitive i'm trying to be mindful not to talk in the direction of the matchmaster because as you can see it doesn't have any kind of shielding or shielding or anything around it whereas my auto trickler is covered on three sides i'm having to go in from the side over here um to weigh so let's try that one more time we'll cross reference them so it was going between 96 and 98 there it is still set on 96. okay that was the match masters charge so now i'm pretty sure yeah the the auto trickler's charge weight was uh 43.98 so let's put it in the let's put it on the match master here and see what it says huh look at that dead on what it what it said it was let's see if it still reads that over here on the on the a and d yep so the the the scales check each other out pretty dang good um yeah so that one's kind of flirting with the 44. so you know kudos to the matchmaster there you know i mean these just these scales alone the amd fx 120i you know i think they run somewhere in the ballpark of like 700 or something if you were to just buy the scale they're a lab grade balance you know technically not even you're not even supposed to call them a scale um and they are they're very heavy i will say when i was moving both of them around oh man the the a and d's were i'd say close to double the weight of the entire matchmaster dispenser over there so i mean they're very heavy duty industrial grade you know lab use type scales that i think are really really built to last a long time but anyway so so to say all that i think matchmaster is doing pretty well to to measure that closely to uh you know the a and d so now let's get into to a little bit of a dispensing race here so what i'm gonna do i think everything is set good to go um see where can i set my timer here without just disrupting everything um i may have to rearrange i my if he'll go there and stay no it will not okay i might i might be able to make this work yeah we'll just have to make do um so here we go let's uh let's let them race each other both are set at 44 grains so three two one so about 18 seconds on the auto trickler and what 20 24 or so on the match master and they're both really close to each other um i sort of feel like i'm doing a little bit of a disservice to the match master because when i try to reach in there and hit the timer i wonder if the the air movement just from my hand is you know affecting its start time but you know i don't really know too much else of a way to to get around doing this and having everything in the picture ah let's see it might oh yeah that might work you get a something over here yeah okay let's try that that shouldn't be shouldn't be too bad and i'll dump the dump the auto trickler not the match master i need to reset that all right three two one oh perfect so you're looking at about 13 to 14 seconds on the auto trickler there and i have a feeling the match master's gonna take a minute so about 20 28 27 or so seconds there so let's let's do another one now again there's some there's some speed settings that i can tinker with on the auto trickler there's a little sliding bar in the back of the scale that i probably have a little bit below halfway like favoring the slow side i could speed that up i could also change the tilt of the the trickler to make this go even faster and um i'm going to open up the metering thing a little bit there too because you know i think i can can gain a little bit of speed in that case too obviously as you've already seen on the match master this is as good as it gets if i go up to speed setting two it will over throw by a mile so here we go one more time all right three two one [Music] uh 15 or so seconds there on the auto trickler and about 22 on the matchmaster both of them again i don't think either have you know thrown an overcharge or stopped early well there the auto trickler just ticked up to it's kind of flirting between 0.02 and .04 so now let's do one more just for the fun of it here we go three two one [Music] about 13 to 14 seconds on the auto trickler and 23 or so on the matchmaster so not too bad i mean um for sure the auto trickler there's there's the the matchmaster will never win a race against the auto trickler i think that's pretty pretty obvious to see and i could speed the auto trickler up even more than what it's running right now i just you know just haven't went to the trouble to do it because it practically outruns me as is so um yeah that's um that's that's that should give you a pretty good idea there on the speed at which you can dispense powder on these things let's get into powder draining and clean up okay as far as draining powder goes on the auto trickler the first thing you want to do is shut the valve so you just rotate the hopper until the x is exposed there and then you don't want to pull the hopper out of the thrower part of the body just yet you want to cycle the thing a couple of times so if you've um if you've been loading on your um on your auto trickler all you have to do is hit the print button again and it'll go ahead and throw the charge at it that it was previously set for and then if you just you know touch the pan it will stop so i usually you know throw at least two charges [Music] so there's that now you can it should have let the powder level go down below where we're getting ready to do this so now you can just lift your lift your hopper off get you get your um your powder jug there sit it on there and just open the valve and just watch it flow out and it's pretty dang fast this is really really easy to to do so i think that's that's got it all there and then i go ahead and close this back and i'll set it set it back up on my on on the scale and now the other part you have to to do with the auto trickler is carefully empty the trickler so i usually just dump out what what powder is in the straw to start with and again i'm kind of i'm working here in the in a spot that i'm not used to having the scale sitting so if it if it looks a bit awkward for me it's because it absolutely is all right that is all empty now one thing you'll want to remember to do if you do get an auto trickler is when you set the auto trickler back down after you've emptied it be sure to um set the auto trickler back in the position where it actually goes because um if you forget to do that and then you set the scale down or you set the pan down to to throw a charge then that that thing is going to start dispensing powder out everywhere in there which is not hard to clean up now what i'm doing is just letting the last of the powder um dispense out of the out of the metering cavity here and as you can see nothing's coming out so we're good the cancel button on here if you don't want to go through the app to do this is you just hit the mode button it'll flash to grams and then go right back to grain and that cancels everything out so that's sort of like the cancel button and then the print is sort of like the start button a cool thing about the the v3 here is if you wanted to manually use the um auto trickler without the bluetooth app you can manually weigh a charge in here like just keep putting kernels of powder in and setting it on the pan until you get to your desired charge weight and while the pan is sitting on the scale with that charge weight in it you just hit print and it's just going to duplicate that charge so when you dump that the powder that you had in the pan out set the pan back on the scale it's just going to try to copy that charge over and over but there is the bluetooth app with the um auto trickler and it is very handy because one thing you can do is it's very handy for load development so you can set your charge weight like up on the top end say let's say 44 grains was the hottest charge that you wanted to test that day and then you were going to go down and test 43.7 what you can hit this minus 0.1 button you hit it three times and it automatically sends that to the scale you don't have to hit the charge weight or tap to set charge weight button or anything like that again the next time you set an empty pan down on the scale it will automatically throw 43.7 so that's pretty handy for low development and there's a few other buttons down here like the cycle auto throw you can see i just hit it and you can also [Music] start motor like you can hit that and you see it's if you can hear it it's running the auto trickler right now and i'll stop it so it's it's pretty cool i kind of like um i kind of like the bluetooth app with this i'm not a big fan of bluetooth apps on the dispensers that have a keypad because you know why am i going to pull my phone out of my pocket or or keep up with it or whatever when i've already got a number pad right there to use so anyway that was uh emptying of the auto trickler now let's move on here to the match master now they send and one of the big complaints that you hear about the match masters is the drain for the powder is on the very bottom of the scale so we'll have to turn the scales around uh drag it off to the edge of the bench and hold a powder jug underneath it here and let me get the camera a little better a little better situated here for for this um they also rcbs sends this tube and this sticks onto the spout on the bottom of the scale so let's see how this goes i i have yet to drain this thing so move everything out of the way here and carefully grab it and turn it around well that was not careful not as careful as i'd like to be in anyway okay let's see there's i've got the yep i got that stuck in the stuck in the spout there i'm pretty sure this is all still in the picture yep all right now there's a great old big handle under here that you turn and find it there we go and you hear that alarm that lets you know the drain is open so that's kind of cool because you know on a lot of the you can see it just draining the powder out now let's see how much is still straggling around in there that's pretty much got all that i kind of need to to dispense a charge now to get all this out of the uh okay so it will not dispense a charge to clean the powder out of the little dispenser tubes in there with the drain open um all right so there i just shut the drain now let's see if it'll it'll dispense a charge there's some of it out all i'm trying to do now is just clean the get the powder out of the tubes all right there's i don't know if there's a a better or faster way to do this maybe i could lean the scales back and shake shake the powder out of the tubes this is a lot more aggravating to me than the system that they had with their old charge masters and charge master lights that just had the drain on the side i don't know why they decided to get away from that design because this seems like way more of a headache let me just try to get it to dispense another charge well i don't think anything's coming out so we should be good there so as far as ease of emptying i believe the i believe the charge master i mean the auto trickler has it beat for sure um take the pan off here this is what i was dealing with under there there's the the drain and you can see that big spout there where they want you to stick the stick the tube in and i would say you would definitely not want to lose this thing because man that would probably really make a mess trying to trying to use it without a tube maybe if you had a big funnel or something um but anyway i guess that's probably just about going to wrap it up uh final thoughts here um if you know the matchmaster costs like i said somewhere around 900 right now the auto trickler is about 960. so if i was going to pay 900 for a powder dispenser i would definitely rather have the auto trickler and they are coming out with the with the v4 on the auto tricklers that stands for version four this is version three or v3 um it's gone it's completely redesigned they no longer use a um traditional powder measuring type meter here it sort of would remind you of kind of what the charge master's got going on uh it's got two dispenser tubes uh one large one like this except it is way bigger than this it's probably like three or four times larger than this tube from what i've seen pictures and stuff off and the trickler tube i believe is just the same as what they they already use and the whole unit sits on top of the um of the scales there's no trickler off to the side that you have to empty separately so it's pretty clever what they come up with i'm i'm looking forward to uh hopefully getting to use one of those uh one day but um it's no faster the version four would be no faster or any more accurate than this one because they both use the same scales it's it's just the the method in which the powder is dispensed is different um so that's something to be on the lookout for i think they're coming out in early 2022 i think is the is the release date so anyway hopefully you enjoyed this um if you did i hope you like the video and maybe subscribe to my channel and uh until next time i will be talking to you then
