Watched all of this yesterday then looked up the synthesis of the A-D and B-C ring systems, so interesting. I'd love to do a total synthesis postdoc once I've finished my PhD, I think this project has taught me to deal with failure well.

Am I the only one that finds it easy to get sucked into spending hours reading about total syntheses, it's (in a somewhat nerdy way) kinda addictive.

For anyone interested, if you Google "classics in total synthesis pdf" then you might be pleasantly surprised.

My company had stipulated that a well known and extremely talented Professor can consult for us, but he can't do lectures open to employees to discuss of work from his lab; only because he curses like a sailor. I kind of miss Woodward breaking the taboo practice of drinking and smoking heavily on the job
