this album I you know I made sure and I made a promise to myself that after a long career of being forced to chase hits and Chase the chart and kind of like make songs to sell or post to make songs for art I promised myself on this album I would be honest and I'll tell stories that are important to me things that I've truly kept in the dark things that have eaten me alive over the years and um ladies and gentlemen I want to sing you this next song which is probably one of the hardest songs I've ever written in my life um and I'll tell you why the subject is sexual assault rape um and and sexual violence is heavy it's dark I'm asking this for a couple of reasons like I made this song Because I had to not because I wanted to this song is like my medicine all my music is medicine for me in some ways because it's a subject that I find really awkward and horrible to talk about but I also knew that it was important to put this song out because I read a statistic that broke my heart and I included it at the end of my music video and that's one in four women and men will experience this in their lifetime and looking at all your beautiful faces here today there's a quarter of this room and that's freaking heartbreaking um and it's wrong and it's so sad and there's no instruction manual on how to heal how to be okay again so anyway I wrote this really sad song to remind myself that I'm a [ __ ] Brave strong woman and it's called ice cream man [Applause] for you today thank you and I really really hope that you don't relate to these lyrics but if you do then this song is for you
