[Applause] hello my name is Frey I am going to take you through a sound Journey using some of my favorite things [Music] Welcome to My Mind massage if I can get into it [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] I am from South London be precise Croydon a place called Croydon my heritage oh on these flags on my arms the UK Switzerland and Ghana London is a beautiful place with lots of rain and if you haven't been there I would recommend that you go there and have a bite at the pub [Music] this is the moment I'm nervous I'm nervous I'm Gonna Let Her Fly it blew very well I started singing when I was about five or six but I wasn't very great at singing when I was very young but I always had a love for songwriting and I wrote my first song when I was seven years old and I recorded it under a duvet on a really terrible microphone and I will never hear the light of day but the thought was that the energy was there my favorite song I've ever written for myself the thought question because I think it varies after time has passed right now it's my song escapism one of my favorites right now one of my favorite songs I've written for someone else was pick up the song the week I wrote for The Lion King by Beyonce which is a really special song to me it came at a time where my self-confidence really needed it and it was written with an incredible some incredible incredible talented people and and I found out that the song had made the album on the red carpet um and she told me herself meeting Beyonce was ridiculously ridiculous it was all a blur but brilliant there are so many words to describe that moment or that feeling grateful yeah not amazing I don't know I'm a songwriter and I'm lost for words so maybe lost for words is the phrase describe that scenario I have this knife and these bath bombs yes [Music] [Music] I'm gonna start with green green is my favorite color [Music] I thought this would be as simple a task so satisfying the inner child in me is screaming with a joke [Music] I'm now going to cut the purple one I'm having such a great time foreign [Music] [Laughter] [Music] of which I think I am I believe in forgiveness and I believe in love but don't get it twisted though if you do cross me or actually more importantly if you cross someone I love and it gets very ugly but that's just because I'm very protective of the people I love D I think it's a Scorpio thing so it's a it's who I am I am me it's my it's made to conduct for me you're right and conduct Ed right all the parts every single type of instrument [Music] oh this is getting so satisfying 100 writing is a healing experience writing for me is medicine dependent artist believe being very vulnerable in lyricism is so important I mean ever my thumb coming out in every song on it is some form of healing medicine for me it covers a very interesting variety Concepts and topics but it's all very very honest even uncomfortably so [Music] swap making music is about music is exceptionally healing for all of us [Music] from my upcoming album you can expect some quite intense songs what's uncomfortable come through Concepts and topics I have nothing to lose and nothing to hold back so I think some of my lyrics are quite extreme unbold there are songs about things I've dealt with in life such as battling with addictions and [Music] assault and uncomfortable things um we don't talk about how in the open um body dysmorphia is explored my fear of climate change and the planet ending is explored being this honest and vulnerable is therapy in itself even though it's scary oh because some of my closest friends don't even know that this is how I feel about some things meanwhile is that my album [Music] the sound is like dreading fresh snow [Music] [Music] look at those colors this is my fidget spinner [Music] wow I mean it it sings for itself was a beautiful relaxing sound [Music] foreign I really recommend carrying one of these around in your pocket get one and I recommend a metal one like this [Music] yeah when you get a good spin on it it would just go and go and go and it also creates this vibration in your hand which travels up your arm and it's so relaxing my recent release escapism is about running away from reality as fast to be honest it's a very sad song um I'm one of those people that I can't listen to Adele when I'm sad I listen to Adele when I'm in a good place in life and I nice because escapism is a sad song but the production is the opposite the drums are ready live and feel quite thick and exciting [Music] the bass and horns and the lyrics are quite sad but for me juxtaposition in in music 's my favorite thing I like opposites and it also features some amazing eyes called 070 Shake who's an amazing it's brilliant on this song should give it a listen the video for escapism is I think an honest depiction of a knight oh really really crazy night out but with distorted and weird Parts I worked really hard on this video I put a lot of my art into it and I got sick actually when we were filming it I had to run out [Music] tails down the street in a little black dress printed after the truck that had the camera in it because we needed to get that song you know I did that a couple of times and my feet hurt so much but the short looked really amazing we used like seven different camera techniques at one point I was um strapped to a giant camera and I had laid down on the floor and I was being pulled by my legs also we shot um 070 shakespot in my living room I'm independent you know it was great you'd definitely give it a what it's bonkers being an independent artist is so liberating for all the things it lacks it makes up for tenfold and all the things you gain as an artist your freedom being able to control your career entirely to trust your instincts and move where you want to move to create where you want to create both visually and sonically for me this process has been [Music] creating for a purpose to express my art for the first time instead of creating for the purpose to sell which is what the system encourages because it's a business but when money becomes the focus the r loses something as an independentized I get to choose what what drives me and the artist what's driving me and the euphoria that I feel being able to just do what I want after seven and a half years in the major label system [Music] I am I put together a body of work I'm so proud of and I'm so excited and art is the driving force of it all so yes being an independent artist is freaking amazing I have in my hand the common lighter I will use it to make a flame when I see a lighter like this I go back to my 16 year old self you know when you had a lighter and you would find money you just light the flame and stare it in your bedroom and just depressed and you just feel like you're in some sort of music video throughout my career as an artist I I have grown very in many ways trusting yoga is actually one of the most important things in being an artist I think or being a human being on this planet we all have a little feeling inside of us I've got Instinct and it kind of makes a noise or sound if should be somewhere or if you can be somewhere if you like something if you don't like something and as an artist I was often encouraged to ignore inside [Music] but um the older I'm getting and the more time I'm spending this industry the more I'm realizing you have to trust those instincts above everything when it comes to the music you want to share all the way down to should I even be in this room with these people feeling safe and knowing when to get out all of those feelings and I've just got a lot more growing to do I'm excited for my fans to sing albums albums with an s my goodness my dream since I was 10 years old was to be a songwriter and I was always to be taken seriously you know and also the live shows performing this music that I'm so passionate about oh good lyrics and good music I'm complexed I like to challenge Norms in the songwriting structures and my only wish in this life is just to build fans a fan base that doesn't care what genre they get they're just excited for the next story thank you so much for coming to my mind make sure to check out my single escapism right now be sure to go and check out my very first date my 21st person now in February I hope you enjoyed
