hey what's happening guys i have been a fan of the raspberry pi computers since uh then version two i never played with the version one two and i've had a two three a zero zero w and now thanks to the generosity of one of my good friends we have the raspberry pi 400 personal computer kit which is uh i think pretty cool so it's got the broadcom bcm 2711 quad-core 64-bit system on a chip that has the arm cortex a72 at 1.8 gigahertz it's got four gigabytes of ram dual band uh wireless lan bluetooth ble gigabit ethernet two usb 3.0 one usb 2.0 it's got your standard 40 pin uh raspberry pi header it's got two micro hdmi ports uh supports two h 265 4k p60 decode h.264 1080 p60 decode 1080p30 encode opengl es 3.0 graphics micro card slot for operating system and data storage built on 78 key keyboard and it comes with a 5 volt dc usb c connector now it says see installation instructions before connecting to the supply okay we'll have to check that out so let's open up the box and see what is included in the kit i'm excited to uh to see this this a one piece you know computers actually in the keyboard thing harkens back to the the good old days of the uh you know the old 8-bit computers the commodore 64s the vic-20s seem to have lost the key cap but i'm not too worried about that because as you can see they just gonna pop back on there and that actually gives us a pretty good look here at what the keyboard is so it's basically just a looks to be a clear pcb membrane type that didn't go well that didn't go well at all no sir so there is apparently a problem with that key but i'll figure that out as we move on not going to worry about that too much so look at the back of the raspberry pi here we can see our 40 pin header there's our micro sd it's already got a thing in it two micro hdmi slots there's our power port our two usb 3.0 our one usb 2.0 and our gigabit ethernet and this thing is a pretty slim i have uh yeah get the caliper out here and take a look figure that out said zero that out all right there we go so at its thinnest point right here we're looking at a 7.49 millimeters and at its thickest point up here get on there come on at as thick as 21.06 so yeah this is not a really gigantic thing by any means all right what else we got here the official raspberry pi mouse the official raspberry pi power supply a micro sd to sd adapter micro hdmi to hdmi cable and what really is harkening back to the good old days the official raspberry pi beginners guide with just all sorts of good stuff in there yeah that's really nice so i'm going to take a look here at this uh bad key and see if i can do anything about it no i'm not going to really worry about it and we'll go on from there and get this guy set up all right welcome to studio 1b also known as the kitchen we've got i think just about everything hang on one second i need my hdmi to vga adapter which is over here so that's this guy here this is a vga only monitor didn't have any hdmi monitors were somewhat old school here so here is our official raspberry pi mouse whoops i mean to bump the camera sorry about that simple little optical mouse i'm going to plug that into the usb 2.0 and as you can see my key is still not fixed i'm working on it then we have our official raspberry pi power supply so we'll get that guy out and well you can see that but there are some specs on that looks like three amps maybe so we'll plug that in up here then we need to hook up our micro hdmi oh that's going to be a problem well ah shoot shoot shoot shoot okay so two days have passed and we've got a package from amazon which should contain our new adapter let's see what we got this is gonna be fun all right okay hopefully that's what we need a warranty card and get a free gift so hdmi you can disconnect the other one that wasn't going to work out for us so well hook this one up powered on here's our power i don't see a power switch on it so soon we just plug it in and we got a light there we're blue and we are lighting up failed to open device sd card well that's not good let it try again here yeah we're just getting a ton of errors let me pull the power we'll try it one more time nope huh alright good okay let's uh pull the power again and we'll just make sure the card is properly seated in there huh you really want to go in there very well all right let's try it again now what do you got for me huh what do you got for me ah looks like it read it this time this might not have been seated properly no signal analog auto processing something flash there not sure what it's doing ah hey how about that welcome to the raspberry pi desktop let's get started okay well i booted up really fast so country is the united states american english time zone for us will be new york we will use u.s english and a us keyboard now we're setting our location password default pi user account that's fine for now the desktop should fill the entire screen and it does it's actually a bit too big searching for networks i'll set up my network thank you okay we are connected to the network operating system and applications will now be checked and updated next i shall return when this part is done so as you can see it's downloading updates and that'll probably take a bit of a time so while it's doing that let's take a look at this document that talks about the difference between the pi 400 and the pi 4b the pi 400 which is what we have here has four gigabytes of this ddr4 3200 ram the pi 4b you can get one two or four gigabytes connectivity they look virtually the same dual band 2.4 and five 802.11 bgnac bluetooth 5 ble gigabit gigabit then we come to ports we have two usb 3 and one usb 2 two uh same two micro hdmi to micro hdmi now for i o we have the same horizontal 40 pin horizontal 40 pin multimedia they're basically the same the difference is this one has a built-in case and keyboard the price is a little bit more these sell for around 100 whereas the pi 4b can be had for maybe 75 80 dollars so but don't let that fool you because you're going to end up spending another thirty dollars on a case heat sinks keyboard mouse all that stuff whereas we're talking about this you know it's all built into there so the real test will come when it is done downloading its update and we'll see how it really behaves well we started this update process at 1209. oh you can't see that hold on bring this up here and somewhat better right yeah i know it's a little crooked hold on let me get this all adjusted and here we go it is uh 12 35. it looks like we're maybe nine tenths of the way done so we continue on well it's 9 or 12 43 now so i've been going out for about 34 minutes and as you can see it says it's downloading updates but i don't know if it's frozen or what so we'll just let it roll well it's now 12 48 and as you can see it is installing updates so that's a good thing that means it's still running [Music] all right so that took almost 50 minutes it says the system is up to date we can restart it and see what we get i'm used to seeing the uh the raspberry pi and all the cores up there and all that stuff going on so not seeing it kind of freaks me out a little bit come on load up i just saw a little cursor blink okay there we go there's the desktop looks like it's connecting yeah looks like we're connected the wi-fi so if i say web browser that came up pretty quick not bad what if we say youtube it's definitely not as quick as my i7 windows 10 pc but it's i mean it's not a slouch either let's see type you with one finger so pardon my slow typing there we go learn electronics videos just click one here i don't have sound hooked up so full screen not seeing any stuttering or anything going on so that's good i have to set up the browser and stuff like that man that that seems absolutely fine so under programming we've got blue java ide guinea green foot mathematica mu node red scratch scratch two scratch three sense hat emulator i think i might have the sense head off to check sonic pie hey look funny just like mom used to make on the pc excellent what else we got wolf ram okay under education smart sim is this actually a uh a circuit simulator it's real wire it's a pin custom components plug in components from the drop down menu not seeing anything happen there do i need to say file new project click the button for the last used component buffer and gate or gate xor tri-state multiplexer pd flip-flop t-flip-flop memory constant clock this is interesting project component run edit view i will have to play with this um new component okay new component and a pin yeah i don't know anything about i have to check it out smart sim very cool uh office we have the basic libreoffice we have chrome clause clawsmail vnc viewer vlc media player image viewer games minecraft pi interest let's have a look at that i am a fan of minecraft but basically minecraft is a very graphics intensive game so i just wanted to see how it's going to behave all right it's behaving quite well i don't know what all the controls are for this yeah interesting accessories archiver calculator file manager pdf viewer diagnostics let's take a look at our diagnostics test that's the only test it has preferences add remove software appearance keyboard and mouse main menu print settings configuration recommended software okay again i apologize for you know using a camera to shoot a screen but that's just what we got to do here visually okay so you know if you get yourself one of these plan on it taking a good hour to get up and ready and if you do not have a monitor with hdmi inputs if you're vga only you are going to need to get yourself some sort of an adaptor uh mini hdmi to vga female is what i bought so that worked out well for me i would like to thank quincy for sending this to us such a good guy really appreciate a great friend of the channel and i'd like to thank you guys for watching i know we didn't really learn anything here today we're just checking out the new raspberry pi so i'm gonna i've got a spot for this in the house where i'm gonna put it and uh we're gonna use it as a basic you know haas computer and see how it holds out so that'll be fun all right thanks for watching guys that's it i'm out peace
