business majors are consistently ranked as some of the top majors in demand you can get a bunch of different types of jobs and earn a ton of money without a grad degree the struggle for so many business students though is that you have so many options and some are definitely better than others and you'll also probably have to dress up like this every single day which gets old after a while so let me get to something more comfortable there that's better now let's go over the most common business degrees and what exactly you can expect from each of them so you can figure out what's best for you hey everyone my name is hasham khan and welcome to income over outcome where i give you college career and of course personal finance tips today i'll talk about everything you need to know about the six most common business degrees from what you're going to learn in school to job growth and of course what salary you can expect when you graduate be sure to watch until the very end for the two business degrees that i think are the best when it comes to the best business degrees in dead last place we have general business management a lot of schools out there allow you to actually get a general management degree but my school didn't because it's just too broad you'll take all the basic business classes like operations and marketing but you'll never go super deep into anything if you get a general business degree with nothing else you'll compete with all the other business kids that learned everything you did plus they have more specialized skills which is going to make it harder for you to get a job the average starting salary right out of college is also lower than more specialized business degrees at fifty thousand dollars and all these reasons are why business students at my school had to choose a specialization like marketing or finance and i recommend you do the same and that brings me into one of the most common business majors out there marketing as a marketing student you're going to learn all about branding and how companies advertise their products it's a great major for those of you who want to do something more creative and with social media marketing is more important now than ever before all companies need to have a strong online presence if they want to be successful and if you can become an expert on that you can make a ton of money now the growth for marketing is expected to be eight percent over the next ten years which is better than average because the average job growth across industries is just five percent over the next decade the downside is that pay isn't all that much especially when you're first starting out the average salary for a marketing major right out of college is just 45 000 now as you work your way up in the industry you could make upwards of 100k but that's going to take a lot of time and hard work so don't expect to be balling with a marketing degree right out of college a major a lot of you have asked me about is human resources now hr is a great career because you can work in basically any industry you want to since all big companies need to have hr departments one of the most common jobs in hr is recruiting which basically means you're going to screen people applying to your company to see if they're a good fit a lot of recruiters also have to go to college career fairs to find students to hire now there's also a lot of other things you could do in hr like compliance and training if you're a people person who doesn't want to do anything technical then you should definitely look into a career in hr pay right out of college is also a little bit better than marketing at 55 000 but hr managers earn upwards of 120 000 so the upward potential is pretty good and growth over the next 10 years is expected to be 7 which is pretty decent but honestly even though i think hr and marketing are great careers i'm not a huge fan of those degrees because you don't need an hr or marketing degree to work in either of those industries but you know what i am a huge fan of when you go ahead and hit that like button and notification bell because that helps youtube push my videos to more people in all seriousness the reason people with literally any degree can go into hr or marketing is because you don't need to have any super specialized skills i had a marketing internship when i was in college even though i was a health information management major because of my experiences i could easily get a marketing job if i really wanted to now if you want to break into either hr or marketing all you really need are the right internships and soft skills so that should be your main focus while you're in college you also might want to think about choosing a major that gives you more skills that will make you more marketable to companies when you're applying to jobs and internships like the next three degrees i'm about to talk about the third degree is finance everyone knows you can make a ton of money with a finance major you would learn all about the stock market financial analysis and projecting a company's growth which are all great skills to have there's also a huge range in the types of jobs you can get so starting salaries are all over the place investment banking is one of the highest starting salaries for finance majors at a hundred fifty thousand dollars right out of college but there's a lot that goes into that so i won't go into all the detail in this video if you want you can check out this video right over here where i talk all about investment banking and other really high paying jobs i'll also link it at the very end of this video and in the description investment banking is definitely an outlier though the most common job for finance grads is being a financial analyst and the average starting salary for that is around 60 000 now some larger banks pay around 80 but it really depends on where you work and where you choose to live i know some people move to big cities like new york and they're making bank but other people chose to stay in small towns and they're not making that much money growth in finance is pretty decent at six percent over the next decade but if you want a finance job majoring in finance might actually not be the best option and i'll talk about why in just a minute one of my favorite business degrees is management information systems or mis now this used to be pretty uncommon but over the last few years it's become way more popular because technology has become super important in business mis is basically a combination of a business degree with a computer science degree if you go into mis you'll basically be helping companies improve operations and finances using data and software like with any business degree it's really important that you have good people skills but you also need to be really analytical so if you like working with people and solving problems then you should definitely look into management information systems pay is really good with the average starting salary being sixty three thousand dollars and the median mid-career salary is a hundred and forty six thousand 000 so you would definitely be living a pretty decent lifestyle and growth over the next decade is also better than most business degrees with demand expected to grow by 11 for management information managers and in the number one spot we have accounting which in my opinion is the safest business degree you could get because it's so versatile you would basically learn the same things as a finance student but instead you're focusing on the day-to-day management of money it's true that accounting is one of the more boring business degrees because it's so focused on numbers but the reason it's great is because it gives you real life skills that make you valuable right out of undergrad which makes it so you're in really good position to compete for a bunch of different types of business jobs accounting majors are just as competitive for high finance jobs as finance majors the average entry level salary is on the lower end at fifty thousand dollars but that's because so many accountants work for smaller companies big accounting firms like ey and deloitte have starting salaries around thousand dollars you could also get your cpa for a higher salary and there's a lot of upward potential with accounting like with finance the growth is really similar at six percent over the next decade but the difference is you have a ton of more options if this video helped you learn a little bit about the difference between these business degrees be sure to hit that like button and notification bell i'll see you in my next video but until then take care [Music]
