gonna break several hearts their literary fiction pick true biz by sarah novik what's realer than real this witty and life-affirming novel gives us the true biz about a school for the deaf their narrative non-fiction pick bittersweet by susan kane ever cried during a commercial or listen to joni mitchell curled up on the floor this insightful book is for you any book that is going to be reminiscent of emotional times and make me cry is an immediate read for me so this one is going on the list and i really hope it does make me cry i realize now how it sounds but i'm gonna go with it am i i'm gonna go with it i wanna i want to cry i wanna cry i wanna feel all the feels their mystery pick like a sister by kelly garrett sometimes a sibling just knows when her estranged sister dies under weird circumstances lena scott gets on the case i love a mystery book where the family and friends of the victims start investigating because that's when things get intense because you know their passion gets all intermingled with the evidence and the conflict and it just everything explodes in your face this cover is getting haunted but it's also gorgeous and that's a win for me and last but not least their fantasy pick kaiki by vashnavi patel why should boys have all the fun in this epic tale that pulls heartstrings kaiki fights for her place in history this is one of my most anticipated reads of this year and the fact that i'm holding it in my hands before it even comes out also this is a debut author debut author of color look how stunning this book is i'm so excited people say it's for fans of cersei for fans of mythology retellings so this is the mythology retelling but it's indian mythology we don't get enough bipark mythology retellings so i'm really excited sponsoring this video let's get into my rankings i just need to clarify a few things before we begin first being i compiled a list of over 40 books but because some of the books are tied for certain numbers in my rankings my list only goes up to 35 so i'm gonna be starting at 35 and going all the way down to one starting with the worst moving up to the best these are my opinions i don't expect everyone to agree with me i don't expect anyone to agree with me these are my opinions so if you don't agree with me that's fine but really don't take it to heart because it's not a big deal i just thought i would say that so that no one goes feral i have not read all of book talk's most popular books i realize in making this list i've read a lot of them before you comment down below talking about you forgot the lab hypothesis i have not read the love hypothesis i have not read they both die at the end i haven't read midnight library i haven't read verity i haven't read a good girl's guide to murder or the inheritance games a little life kingdom of the wicked the spanish love deception or crime and punishment because yes that was one of them for the classic pose i don't know but if you do want a series where i determine if book talk and i truly have beef and if they can ever ever give me a good recommendation that i enjoy comment down below which book you want me to read first whichever book gets the most votes or the most comments that will be the first one that i read why do i have a feeling it's going to be the love hypothesis it's probably going to be the love hypothesis 90 of these books will probably get me heated when i talk about them so if you like rants you're welcome and welcome i hope you have a good time it'll be like a reward like a little treat when i get to the end and i get to talk about the books that i love let's begin i've been stalling for long enough let the [ __ ] show begin okay so coming in at number 35 no one is surprised we actually have two books tied for the worst spot and if you know me and you know my channel if you've been subscribed to me for a while then i'm sure you know what this is number 35 the worst of the popular book talk books goes to none other than we were liars by e lockhart you all know i have beef with this book it's never ending and there's a prequel coming out so i'm having like flashbacks to when i read this book anyway i'm not gonna explain what this book was about my beef with this book is basically just that it's it's so white it felt racist to me because there's this girl oh my god the whole premise of this book is literally just this rich white family complaining about who's going gonna take their summer house who's gonna who's gonna have ownership over it the main character katie is so whiny and she's like my family hates my boyfriend because he's a man of color and my family's racist and he won't love me because they're racist and i'm like girl how is that a you like how are you making this about you [ __ ] maybe stop being racist also the way it was written really grinded my gears but anyway i can't even talk about it anymore because we're gonna i'm gonna have an aneurism or something so moving on to something that's not even better oh my god number 35 part two harry potter harry potter and we were liars on the same level because they're both terrible and they feel very very harmful racism the black character in harry potter was named kingsley shacklebolt kingsley shacklebolt what's wrong with that i don't know and then you have cho chang we're barely scratching the service here y'all can read so many articles about how terrible and harmful harry potter is but then then we get to jk rowling that woman oh i got beef with her when i see her name when i see anything related to harry potter i see red turf transphobic oh lord have mercy i cannot even i can't even talk about it i really can't it makes me so mad as an ally to the transgender community i cannot imagine supporting this series or this author and i don't understand when people are like we can separate work from the creator and i'm like can you because i don't think you can their ideals are ingrained into their creations are they not you want to be that person and look past it and still read and love and support harry potter then i really can't tell you what to do but i'm i'm gonna judge you and this one shocked me like i was very surprised that this book was this low on the list but at number 34 we have the raven boys by maggie stavatter i really tried to put this book higher up on the list because i was like i don't really have any beef with this book or the author or anything even though i know she has some weird stuff going on too but then i was thinking about it i'm like i think i would rather re-read every other book above this one then re-read the raven boys because the raven boys was just painfully painfully boring not a thing happened in that book that was worth my time no yeah that's pretty much the only reason why that's there i don't really have beef with it it's just it wasn't interesting to me at all simply not not a book that i would like to remember or like so yeah moving on number 33 serpent and dove houses above the raven boys you know what at least it was somewhat amusing at least it had a plot that i could follow i didn't like it no i mean the one black character being named coco was probably the worst part about this book but the other there were so many parts about this book that i just despised and you know what if you want to know more about why i didn't like this book you can watch my reading five star reviews of my least favorite books so i will have that link down below i branded about this book enough first of all it's enemies lovers which i already don't like but when you make it straight people and when you make one of them literally the most awful man you could come up with it just makes it even worse read degree where do i begin with that man the thing is is that this man never went through a single change in the book and i don't understand how people like him with lou he didn't even consider her to be a human he wanted to call her an it he dehumanized her the entire time and then by the end they're in love because he finally called her her suddenly i'm supposed to forgive him for his crimes and his terrible behavior i don't think so no no the thing is i actually liked lou i feel like she really really stood out to me like she actually had a personality and some people thought that was obnoxious i thought it was fun now if she had not been tied to read or in this world that doesn't make sense world building wise lou was the only thing that i liked about this book at all let's move on i'm kind of regretting the next book and not putting it lower number 32 november 9 by colleen hoover this book i remember throwing it on the wall because it made me so angry i remember i was already in a reading slump when i read this book and i was like hey this book should get me out of reading something but it made my reading some worse and i'm not sure how that was even possible because i already like hadn't read for months that's why this book gets number 33. parts of this book have to be rewritten and reprinted because they were so problematic colleen hoover in this book romanticized sexual assault and abuse to the point where reviewers were like um this is unacceptable and she rewrote parts of the book i read the updated version and i read the regular regular original version the main love interest is still a shitty person and the whole plot twist in this book oh my god when i tell you first of all i don't understand why no one in this book went to jail because people in this book should have been in prison second of all there was just nothing romantic about it also this book was really boring it took me like a month to read i was not having it oh lord have mercy okay number 31 we have red queen and shatter me i couldn't decide which one i would want to reread over the other first i was going to say shatter me but then i really thought about and i was like i would rather not read either of them ever again because i didn't like either of them red queen i remember being so drawn to it because the cover was so cool and everyone was talking about how the plot twist was just phenomenal and you would never see it coming i read this book while i was in a reading slump i thought it would fix the reading slump no it made the reading slump worse and it took me a month to finish this book and the plot twist did not hit me i didn't even realize it was a plot twist i thought it was just what was supposed to happen like okay saw that coming i remember this so clearly there was a description of a train in the book and it was described like a worm and i genuinely thought they were writing a metal worm and that's when i knew that this book was not a banger and never continued the series many people have told me that i should and i was like uh maybe but then i heard that the second book is the worst in this series and i was like yeah no i don't think so i wanted to continue it because i know that there is a static character and a sophic relationship but i am so sorry for once in my life i cannot do it for the suffix i really can't and then shatter me the same thing i actually plan on finishing the shatter me series because i love myself some good platonic soul mates and i heard that this book does it very well so i want to read that but yeah i heard that the first book is the worst book in the series i just didn't vibe with it i remember i read it and none of it stuck with me also i'm not a huge fan of dystopian so maybe i shouldn't finish the series but i'm going to because i want my platonic soulmates like [ __ ] all right so number 30 is from blood and ash so i have also ranted about this book many many times it's in the same rant video as my reading five star reviews of books that i hate same video as serbian dev is that number 30 for so many reasons but one being that i appreciate the effort to make new adult fantasy romance a thing i do think that this book did things for the fantasy community but this book also simultaneously made me realize i don't like fantasy romance none of this book made sense none of it not a single bit of this book made sense also hawk the main love interest hawk can't stand that man i know no one is surprised to hear me say that i can't stand a man but he was so bad he was creepy he lied to the main character the whole time i didn't understand why poppy was so in love with him he just lied i also couldn't stand poppy's characterization now that is a character that normally i would love because you all know i love a murderous female character like when she started killing people i was here for it but just her character it doesn't make sense because she'd be like i feel this way but then she completely contradicts herself two seconds later in her actions and it doesn't make sense world building didn't make sense the plot didn't make sense i couldn't figure out anything that was happening in this book and listen this book was like 600 pages it was 600 pages too long also the fact that they're what four books into this series and there are still more books to come i pray for y'all but i guess if you're still reading it then you must like it if you don't let it go it's just pitiful at this point just save yourself number 29 normal people by sally rooney i don't have anything to say about this book except for mina's review really spoke to my soul this book was just so uninteresting to me i took several naps while i tried to read this book it was so so dull every time i see people with this book completely annotated i'm like truly i wish i saw what you saw because an annotated book that you love so much is such a beautiful thing to me but i would like to know what these people are annotating because there is not a single thing that i could see myself resonating with in this book nope not at all and so that's why it's at number 29 not the worst thing i've ever read number 28 shadow and bone by leigh bardugo this book is also terribly terribly boring to me and i don't understand how leigh bardugo created one of my favorite books of all time and also i've created one of my least favorite books of all time i'm not even gonna finish the shadow and bone series because i disliked shadow and bones so much also everyone talks about darklina everyone loves darkling i read the first book don't even remember any of the darkling scenes that's how uninteresting he was to me that's how uninteresting anything was to me i didn't remember any of him i was like was he even in the first book apparently he was i don't recall number 27 red white and royal blue by casey mcquisten i also included this video in my reading five stars of my least favorite slash worst books of 2020 video it's a lot of my least favorite things put together it's enemies whoever is it's not even actual enemies lovers though that's the thing that's the thing that really is annoying it's also really long for some reason i don't know why a romance book needs to be over 400 it doesn't need to be over 400 pages let's start there this book is like 420 pages and i don't know why it should only be like 300 pages maximum as a romance book especially if it's not even going to be slow burn because this book isn't even slow burn i can excuse a slow burn 400 page romance book but this book wasn't slow burn i swear to god they were together at the halfway point and i was like why is the book still going for 200 more pages also the politics listen i understand the appeal of having some happy alternative world where people of color and queer people are represented in politics and things aren't as disgusting and harmful and problematic in politics i understand the appeal of that but with this book i just think it didn't work also this book is supposed to be funny didn't laugh once i did laugh actually one time because i thought that the mom was ellen degeneres she's not but that was a joke that i made up in my head it wasn't even the book's fault like i didn't even oh god okay anyway number 26 the invisible life of addy luru by ve schwab oh my god i feel like i've been talking for so long i'm already out of breath i feel like i'm about to pass out i gave this book three stars i didn't think it was horrible but i will say that the best part of the book for me was the end the fact that it took 400 pages for me to get to a part that i cared about and enjoy really says a lot people would be like oh my god i love henry so much henry i think henry is the other main character slash the love interest he was a very uninteresting man and let me tell you addie was also very uninteresting here's the thing is this girl she's like i'm gonna live forever she made a deal with the darkness that said she's gonna be immortal she's gonna live forever but no one's gonna remember her interesting concept fell flat for me because here's the thing miss addy didn't do anything with her life how are you gonna be like i'm gonna live forever because i'm a dreamer and then do nothing i'm like girl you could at least become a pirate you could rob a bank you could do a heist literally anything all this girl did was go from country to country in europe by the way for some reason she only stayed in europe which if you're living for 300 years why don't you visit some other continents one person of color in this book in the 300 years that miss addie lived she said i know one person of color and i only know her in passing because she only stayed in [ __ ] europe and only stuck with white people and only did white people things and listen i get it she's white whatever but she's all i'm a dreamer do her dreams not include diversity like [ __ ] that's not even my main issue with the book my main issue with the book was just the lack of anything happening i don't understand how you can possibly be an immortal being and do nothing with your life i don't understand i'm that to get a headache and i know some people said it oh you know it's not like a plot heavy book it's character driven i just related to henry and addie so much i have a fear of not being remembered i really can't relate to that i don't share that fear i'm not saying it's not a valid fear i'm just saying i don't relate i didn't relate to anything at all that happens but literally anything but the thing is i'm like you don't have to relate to a book to enjoy it so i guess there was just nothing appealing about this book to me except for the ending now [ __ ] if v schwab wrote a book like that and she started with the end and then that was the book i would be down for that number 25 the hating game by sally thorne this is a contemporary enemies lovers workplace romance i remember the first half of the book took place in the office and i was upset genuinely because i was like is this the only setting we're ever gonna get and then we finally moved out of the office and things finally just got a little bit interesting just a little bit but then things started to not make sense like i didn't understand why everyone hated josh none of the conflict in this book made sense to me the end of this book was kind of creepy i don't want to spoil it but if you read it then you know what it is and when i read that i wasn't thinking oh how sweet how romantic i was thinking that's creepy as hell buddy that's weird that's weird you're not romantic you're not cute you're odd this was just a very dull dull read to me you're gonna have enemies to lovers force proximity in the workplace i feel like there should at least be more chemistry but there wasn't they also weren't enemies they were just sexually frustrated number 24 i'm probably gonna get murdered for this one percy jackson i don't have beef with this book series at all it's just that the other books on this list i like better i read the first four books and i just never read the last book i want to i just didn't for some reason i don't know why but i see so many fan arts and so many cool videos and quotes from these characters and from this series and it makes me really really want to finish this series i cannot stress this enough i have nothing against percy jackson i really don't i remember reading the books i don't remember enjoying them i don't remember them at all i didn't read them that long ago i read them like five or six years ago no not even five or six years ago i read them like eight years ago oh my god how has it been that long nine years ago it's been a minute i just don't remember anything about them still uncertain about this one but number 23 i have the seven husbands of evelyn hugo by taylor jenkins read there's just nothing about this book that stood out to me i also took a nap when i read this one because it made me sleepy this is a savvy book that did not appeal to me maybe it's because i didn't understand any of the problems that they had with each other they had so much beef all of the conflict that arose between them and that kept these two characters apart i could not get on board with it and i think the whole time i was reading i was just frustrated and that's why i never got locked in with their chemistry i could never get fully invested in the book because i was just irritated the whole time i did have a little moment at the very end where i got a little emotional i distinctly remember wanting to cry for about half a second but i reeled it back in i was all good and that was like three stars it was simply mediocre and i do think that the hype around it only made it worse for me because i went in with the highest expectations possible and i was severely let down this is why i don't ever have any expectations ever also the way this story was told with the black woman and then her dad and then the black man oh girl it was it was the racialized stuff in this book that got me [ __ ] up for some reason like half of my video just got deleted so now i'm like actually irritated i was so rudely interrupted in the middle of my seven husbands of evelyn hugo rant basically what i was saying is i don't like listening to white people talk about anti-blackness or black issues and that's what i felt like was starting to happen here and i was like why are you as a white woman first of all writing from the perspective of a black woman rubbed me the wrong way and i was really mad because i'm like i want to like the suffix in this book but not only is that relationship toxic and unhealthy and messy and hated it but then there is this mess i just don't understand why she needed to include that i really don't like she should have kept it about the white people because at this point it was just too much and i know evelyn hugo is not white but i'm talking about in the situation that involved a black person she should have kept it about the white people because she's white the author is a white okay moving on to the unhoneymooners which is enemies lovers and fake dating this is the one christina lauren book that has filled me i think this is the start of my beef with enemies to lovers because the reason why these two people were enemies was so dumb i have never in a moment wanted to slap someone more than when i was reading this book and it sucks because this book actually had me giggling like i was like this is a legit wrong calm like it's an actual comedy i was having a good time but i should have given up at the halfway point when it had fade to black that's what i should have known no chemistry no smut nothing good then from the halfway point on all the way to the end things just got worse because this male character would not stop gaslighting and invalidating this poor woman and i was like there is no way they can end up together she had there has to be another love interest hiding out there somewhere because this man is not it and then things just started going so so badly for this poor woman like nothing good happened to her ever and then i started feeling like i was reading a tragedy it was no longer a rom-com there was no romance and there was no calm mini that was not having a good time okay and the next book after that the book that we have at number 21 is corrupt by penelope douglas it was so bad to the point of being amusing it's about this girl who has a fear kink but you know i don't have an issue with that that's fine whatever whatever whatever gets her off good for her but it was the structure of this book it was the borderline pedophilia and grooming it was so weird it was it was the white guy gang it was a white man privilege the white man entitlement also another reason why this book is above the odd honeymooners is because i enjoyed this much i'm sure you weren't wondering but in case you were i'm starting to get very frustrated because this is like my fourth time having to film this video because it keeps crashing and deleting all of my footage so really really excited about that so now i have to go quickly i think i left off at corrupts this girl has a fear kink you know whatever gets her off not judging her she wants to have sex in a crypt around dead bodies underground she does that whatever the weird thing that was weird to me there was a threesome which you know inherently not a bad thing not a bad thing especially i love penelope douglas this month so i was excited to read it what i wasn't excited about was the fact that the reason why the threesome happened is because this guy was trigger warning suicidal and he was about to kill himself at least that's what i'm assuming because he had a gun and he was very depressed and he was like i'm gonna i'm gonna go guys and then the main characters walk in and they're like no don't do that and then they all have a threesome and then at the end the guy who was previously suicidal is no longer suicidal he's like hey that was great and i'm like wow all i need to do to hear my depression is have a threesome who would have thought moving on okay so after corrupt at number 20 i have punk 57 why is punk 57 at number 20. you know i love penelope douglas is smut they really delivered i loved birthday girl that was a five star read for me but punk 57 corrupt i don't know what happened they none of those books didn't make sense maybe penelope douglas is just good at creating vibes but not plot because i couldn't understand why punk 57 was happening it was like these two people who were pen pals who didn't realize that they knew each other in real life they loved each other over male in person they hated each other and for some reason they had this weird good guy not good guy bad girl get back bad girl bad guy complex so the girl don't even remember her name i think was ryan she's like i want to be the baddest girl in school they're in high school which is weird that's another conversation for another time but she's like i want to be a bad girl and i don't know why that was never explained and then the guy hated her don't know why he hated her but he i guess hated bad people but then he was also bad and he wanted to be bad i couldn't tell you this book didn't make sense me trying to make sense of it now just makes me sound crazy but in reality it's just a book that's crazy so we move on next up at number 19 the night circus this book i'm surprised it's this high up because this book was very very very very very boring to me the only part of this book that i enjoyed was the writing a bit and honestly if i read it now i don't even think i would like the prose that much but then i also really like the ending like i thought the ending was very creative and it kind of blew my mind a little bit but that's what i was expecting from the whole book and so the fact that i only got that sensation in the ending was very disappointing to me next up at number 18 i'm also very surprised this one made it up this high it ends with us by colleen hoover some people don't agree with why i don't like this book and that's fine i said in the beginning you're probably not gonna agree with me on literally anything but my problem with this book mostly stems from the fact that everyone who recommends it talks about how amazing of a love story it is and everyone's so obsessed with atlas who by the way when i finished a book i didn't even know who the [ __ ] that man was that's how irrelevant he was to the story because this book first and foremost needs trigger warnings because it is about domestic violence and abuse and i did not have a single inkling at all that that's what this book was about so when i went into it i read the book i was traumatized traumatized right off the page i was like this is not a love story but people like to market it that way for some reason and it really pisses me off and you might be like haley you can't be mad at the book for that and i'm like yes i can everyone is obsessed with atlas and to me like when i was reading the book he really isn't a single part of the book here's my beef here is my beef with book talk and book twitter they make the romance in a book the biggest thing they make it about they make everything about the romance i don't have a problem with romance i really don't i love a good romance i really i love romance but i never understand when people especially on book twitter walk into a fantasy book or a book that clearly is not a romance but maybe has a little bit of romance on the side and then they complain when they don't like the fantasy part or the fantasies there's too much fantasy not enough romance if you want a romance read a [ __ ] romance book but also don't make everything about the romance so that when you see a tiny little bit of romance you're gonna make the whole book centered on a romance when that's not what the book is supposed to be about at all this book is about domestic violence this book is about lily escaping an abusive situation and healing from her trauma yet people completely remove it for that for some reason and they make it all about atlas they make it all about atlas and lily for me when i was reading the book that was like a tiny little part of the book i don't know how everyone on booktalk makes this entire book about them when it's not about them and that is my beef with the book also the fact that it needs trigger warnings had i known what this book was about and had was i don't fed straight up false perceptions or views or pictures of it i probably wouldn't have this must be for the atlas i don't know who he is but i'm coming for him and i want him to go away because i'm sick and tired of everyone talking about alice oh my god atlas who the [ __ ] is atlas i was here for lily oh god damn it next up at number 17 i have people we meet at vacation by emily henry this book when i think about it i also have a lot of beef because i don't like the name poppy and i'm sick and tired of seeing poppy everywhere why is poppy such a popular goddamn name i started this book and stopped it like three times because i couldn't get into it this is supposed to be a romance yet i detected no chemistry between the characters i couldn't even tell that the man liked poppy i was like does he even care about her is he even her friend i can tell you that's how little chemistry they had together people were talking about how this book made them cry it was so angsty not a single emotion detected on my half nope didn't feel a single goddamn thing from this book not from these characters not at all i don't understand how a book about vacationing can be made so dull i don't understand but emily henry did it i was so disappointed because i love best friends to lovers that's one of my favorite romance tropes and this one did not deliver there's one point at the end which by the way they weren't even together at the end talk about unsatisfying when i'm reading a romance for romance there was barely any in this book the more i think about this book the more i want to lower my rating for it i'm gonna stop talking about it now the next books that i have at number 16 are these violent delights and the song of achilles these were a tie because i couldn't tell which one i liked or disliked more they both kind of disappointed me i really enjoyed the concept of both of these books i love a bipark twist that has a down with imperialism theme and a [ __ ] westerner's theme i love that in these violent delights and i don't even like shakespeare but i love the way that chloe gong really took this tragedy and made it her own but i really couldn't connect with any of the characters that ruined the whole thing for me also a lot of stuff with the mystery and the monster it didn't fit well together for me there were plot points that just weren't flowing well i really loved chloe gong's prose i think she's a talented writer and that's why i will be following her throughout her career and checking out her other books but this one was just not executed well for me like i was so here for the rival gangs and this plague spreading and enemies being forced to work together but it just didn't deliver for me the song of achilles i love the writing madeleine miller she has some of the most beautiful pros i've ever read but the song of achilles for some reason i enjoyed it but just not enough i think if i hadn't bought into or leaned into the hype so much i probably would have enjoyed it more because it just kind of felt like a letdown in the end everyone's like this book had me sobbing like i didn't feel anything when i finished it like i was sad yeah but i wasn't like it wasn't overwhelming in the sense that i feel like the book was trying to make it seem like this huge tragedy and i just was kind of like oh so i stand by it madeleine miller is very talented i just didn't love this book sue me next up at number 15 i have ugly love by colin hoover once again very surprised that this book made it this high i think it's because it was the first like new adult romance book with smut that i read i just remember being really sucked into this book i don't remember really liking any of the characters but i was just very intrigued like i wanted to see what was going to happen besides the weird technically not incest but incest adjacent step-sibling love plot in the weird slightly almost homophobic comments at the end this book was decent it's the best colleen hoover book i've ever read and that is why it's at number 15. next up on the list we have crescent city by sarah j maas now this book was a wild wild ride i have a whole video explaining my thoughts on this book i'll have that link down below the only thing i truly loved about this book was bryce quinlan i still to this day believe that this is sarah j maas best piece of writing now do i think it's a great book no but i'm saying for her i think it was better than a lot of her other books in terms of the way the plot points fit together in the way the plot twists unfolded i personally was very satisfied by the way she laid everything out i was very pleasantly surprised with this book sergey mast has a great job of getting me really attached to her characters oh my god i literally hated every character though except for bryce hunt i need that man to die i need him gone and thinking about the second book because i've seen spoilers and i know what happens i will not be continuing this series because of the ending of the second book i don't want that i don't like that it makes me want to throw up i don't want it i don't want it at all so anyway i'm gonna move on next up at number 13 i have legend born by tracy dion i love the black girl magic in this book i love the focus on intergenerational trauma and the collective history and just connections that the black community has to each other and i love how bree's ancestry influenced her magical abilities and the way that she saw magic and the way that she was able to adapt to her situation i thought that was very very brilliant i loved the way that this book talked about grief i loved it that being said for like 75 of the book i didn't know it was happening because the lore and all of this setup and the different lingo and the words and oh my god it was so confusing it was so much don't get me wrong i love the i love how she twisted authority and legend around and she was like let's put some black girl magic on here a girl was confused i didn't know who what who anything was i didn't know what anything was i was girl i was i was lost i had to consult a friend for help i felt like an idiot i also didn't like the romance in this book thought it was completely unnecessary there was no chemistry it was so awkward i really didn't like that but i will be continuing the series because i like miss brie matthews next up we have a court of thorns and roses at number 12. i love pharah i love nesta i love me some archeron sisters but let me tell you it took me three tries and i mean reading acotar three times to actually enjoy the first book and the second book and i never liked the third book so what does that say i don't know sarah j maas writes some fun characters that i easily connect to i don't know what that says about me maybe i'm a depressed [ __ ] i love pharah so i rank this book higher also because acamath makes me it just makes my heart so soft there is a lot of problematic content in these books and with sarah j maas now thinking about her books no matter how much i used to love them it just makes me sad next up i have the shadowhunter series the reason why this series is so high is because this series i feel like i single-handedly need to thank this series for getting me into reading and for keeping me with fantasy shadowhunters really had a gorilla grip on me and i don't know these books they left a dark spot on my soul like i can never i can never shake these characters i can never shake this world no matter how much i try and distance myself from cassandra clare and her demons they always find their way back into my timeline back into my low brain and as frustrating as it is there's so much nostalgia attached i can see the improvement in her writing clearly from the mortal instruments to the infernal devices to the dark artifaces to the last hours i can see her writing improve and i appreciate that i think that that's really tough to do especially when you're writing such similar stories and such similar characters all in the same world i was really thinking the other day i'm like am i ever gonna finish the series i don't know i might just have to look up spoiler the wicked powers now i gotta know what happens there i'm interested in knowing who's gonna die cassandra clare is one of those authors that consistently actually gets emotion out of me what can i say oh my god guys we've made it to the top ten i cannot believe the shadowhunters series is almost in the top 10. it's the fact that i would rather re-read shadowhunters than like 90 of these books and i know i did that math wrong don't come for me i'm a book channel not a math channel so at number 10 we have the great gatsby yes i include the great gatsby you might be like no one on book talk talks about the great ask me i don't know what side of book talk you're on but i'd be on the classic side of book talking they'd be talking about the great gatsby and listen that's one of my favorite classics i love the great gatsby and that's why it's at number 10. anyway i don't really have anything to say this is not an english class i'm not going to analyze that it's the only thing i can do so we move on to number nine we have the addicted series by krista and becca ritchie i have a soft spot for this series this series really got me through the first part of the pandemic i blew through this series i never read the last book and i never read the last book i love all the dynamics between these characters i really have a soft spot for them they're so cute the sisters the relationships and you get all types you get all types of relationships you get the childhood best friends to lovers you get the rivals to lovers you get age well age gap and we're not gonna talk about that i actually really felt the chemistry between all of the characters and not just the characters that were in romantic relationships with each other but also the siblings and the friends there's platonic soul mates in here and i think it is so cute and so wholesome that this series is different because i haven't read any romance series that focuses on the same couples and it's just such a comfort read i know they're not the best written but they bring me a little pocket of joy in hard times and that's why they're at number nine now at number eight we have a tie pride and prejudice and throne of glass pride and prejudice is one of my favorite classics i love jane austen she's hilarious she has the mind of a mastermind and i love pride and prejudice i don't know what else to say other than i love pride and prejudice and i just love it if you know you know if you're a hot girly then you know whatever throne of glass is one of my favorite fantasy series i don't talk about it anymore because sarah j maas is so thinking back on it now it just makes me sad but you know aylin was one of my favorite characters for a very long time and throne of glass truly took me for a wild ride that i will never forget because that series was banging and that's why those books are at number eight number seven i can't even believe this book made it this high but it did number seven love in other words by christina lauren i read it back in november so if you want to know more about my thoughts then you can watch my november wrap up but it's at number nine because it is like the perfect combination first of all it's childhood best friends lovers they grow apart and they're separated for many many years when they come back they get to remember all of their memories and it's so angsty and it's so emotional and they have such a strong emotional connection and that is what i look for in a romance book i look for the emotional connection to get me all invested for me to see their chemistry and their connection and then at number six we have it happened one summer by tessa bailey i love this book this is a great romance book tessa bailey writes the best smut you know it's a small town romance with the high maintenance girl and the grumpy guy that just wants to spoil her grumpy sunshine it's so cute it was honestly a sleigh we have made it to the top five at number five we have the poppy war by rf quang i think it is just so genius historical fantasy is one of my favorite genres rf quang is so smart the way that she integrated history and fantasy and put them together i mean she got me hooked from page one i wanna call a poppy wore a standalone i really do because i didn't really like the next two books in the series but the bobby were so good and you know i love murderous woman ren is the leader of dangerous murderous woman and i love her okay at number four we have the cruel prince by holly black i love the cool prince the core prince is what got me out of my reading slump that lasted from high school through college jude also the original baddie the original dangerous violent murderous woman i loved her so much i also love the court politics in this book this book is what helped me realize i love politics and fantasy it is so bizarre to me that people only ever want to talk about enemies to lovers i hate cardin i love jude i hate carden i do think that they have a fantastic enemies to love his relationship i think holly black really did deliver on that i just didn't care about their romance this series is simply not about the romance at least it wasn't for me i was fully immersed enough him i was like [ __ ] i'm an elf him people are like the world building where [ __ ] i felt it it was enough for me i liked how concise and how vivid and vibrant miss black's writing was it worked for me you don't have to have pages and pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of description in order to get a graphic display of your fantasy world i think in fact it shows intense skill to make it succinct and concise and that's exactly what holly black did i love jude so much i love seeing her grow she's like [ __ ] i'm gonna be the best swordsman she's like if i cannot be better than them then i will be so much worse and i'm like yes it just pisses me off how so many people make this goddamn book about karting he didn't do [ __ ] whenever i think about this book i think of jude's scheming but everyone wants to bring up cardin if this book had zero romance it might be one of my favorite books of all time those politics were a sleigh at number three we have the priory of the orange tree by samantha shannon this is an epic fantasy book that has yet to leave my mind saffix dragons powerful murderous woman it's everything that i want in a book the lore the world building the political entry it's all so beautiful it slayed the house down that's what it did at number two cersei and madeline miller this is one of my favorite books of all time like i said before madeline miller is such a talented writer her prose is like liquid gold i will continue to read all of her books and at number one we have a tie for two series an ember in the ashes by saba tahir and six of crows by leigh bardugo these are two of my favorite fantasy books ever oh my god i never shut the hell up about a number of matches i literally went on live tv i went on the kelly clarkson show and i forced everyone to read it was like everyone read a number and ashes hello someone to hear it tells stories like no other i think she's genuinely a genius i don't know how her mind works in such brilliant ways but it really does i don't think i've ever cried harder than when i finished her series it was a very emotional time for me i cried in the shower i was i was a mess and she put me through it she needs to pay for her crimes okay and then also six of crows of course the classic i love every single character except for matthias [ __ ] mattias he can die i don't care and then when crooked kingdom came out i sobbed when i finished it in the bathroom at disneyland because it was over and i didn't have any more of the characters to read i had nothing left that was so sad i want more of the crows but then i think i don't want a six of crows three because what if that ruins what we already have finally i made it to the end of the video this this video took me three hours to film please let me know your thoughts on these books i want to
