[Music] we both felt that TV hadn't really done a proper family comedy in the sense that there wasn't one that had captured the chaos of life for small children there were good practical reasons why it hadn't been done that we thought they were surmountable at least yeah they were the reason you get told dead work with children or animals these figures they're unpredictable you simply don't know what they're going to you feel that the things that happen at home with your own children and the things they say are in some way funnier then the scripted things that children are required to say but if you actually just let children be children then it's funny and I think that's the secret of it we'd work with young children on various series as well and and always being always been aware of the fact that we weren't capturing their their child likeness that well and then I did a series called bedtime where I used my daughter Isabelle when she was 7 to do a scene with the actor Kevin McNally so it was actually Kevin who said to me well don't show the lines just don't tell her what the story is just tell her the sequence we know the scripts but they're not given the scripts they're they're kind of told beforehand war area the script skin it's almost like they've got a seek and destroy mission in general rule-of-thumb what we do is that one of us briefs the king so he comes over and talk to us about the scene and says I'm so after mum says because of this and then we have to remember it you just see them in the corner of the room sitting with that child come again and you're thinking yeah yeah I'm when Claire says that say I hate you they allow a marginal blind difference because the show's partly improvised and they have big chunks somewhere where they'll say right we're going to do this in the scene and I'm going to leave about a two or three-minute chunk where you can just go on and improvise it they says things like oh yeah after that you could just make things I told what their mission is to go into the scene with and then it's our job to to try and play a scene sometimes we we don't tell you and Claire what's coming yeah so that guy Donna probably just to make their life difficult really yeah yeah they have to react so uh we say sort of right yeah they have to kind of think about it and I we like say this because when we make up things they're like hint I don't know if we're making it up ourselves like they were in turn very lucky because we got two houses side by side one which is a family house where we shoot and then next door which is where we eat and where the children are taught and where the chaperones stay and so on so you know it no it's pretty is quite like something at large large commune with people you know running around between the gardens and you know you never quite know who you're gonna find where as well this this product is very different in there is absolutely child-centric it revolves around them the whole thing is geared to them to get the best out of them Ron this is our house and even though you can this be called yeah peace peace the mic man change to other prop and you're the props as well and they're not allowed to keep us on set too long yeah the coffee five minutes yeah but we have to have a different house so that we can go here he doesn't know me it's an hour what we came to do is film the children's side of the scene point the cameras at the children first and then after that 45 minutes they like Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman go off to their to their Winnebagos and the adult actors are left with ending me kneeling on the floor with a pair of eyes on our chest somewhere and we then turn the cameras around and then Andy and me that tend to be Daniel and Ramona's this is Daniel and I'm Ramona as you can obviously get well certainly don't think you should keep a list of people you're going to punish if you've been looking at my lids and then told me about it well nope none of us are on your list no well no I mean money sometime their body shape changes and they are because God six foot power Z 656 four so he does Karen but I love her I don't know it's just really sweet we're very used to in that but it's slightly off-putting to start with a crap paradise instructor so each other many times I've got to Invisible Children and 1:53 the hardest thing is for Hugh and Claire sort of take a Syria that they do I mean the only moment we had the spot of bother was when he was doing a scene where we were both playing imaginary children and he was ticking us both off and the line he had to say was you're both big children you could punish him how would I punish him you should stop him using the computer for six days because he called me bad word do you know you two can just sort this out between the two of you because you're both big kids now aren't you you're big kids you know almost every sense of the word he did corpse there because we are very big children okay what's your favorite clothes Mouse's these are my favorite trousers this is my favorite top so I'm wearing right my question clock we hope that the kids have a really good time when they're filming and they always seem to they always they're always very jolly and to be honest it's not just about the filming for them is it yes I do sir yeah yeah has already played an extra in outnumbered in the hospital yeah this is that my phone do I keep on my story this is my land where I do most of my work and that's my work Danny I'm only coming up here non-stop okay every learn things up but I think ratted the best shooter ever quite often no boy is about Jake a lot and Jake wants to be independent and grown-up yo dude don't do that he just tells loads of stories about his childhood and tries to make him up lie to Jake I think Ben finds him nerdy Ben is not a pain then it is a science to lover who especially like science fiction and you can love stupid and kitchen equipment for beating up a sister he's got a world of crazy ideas in her head Mona more than any of the others I think is very aware of the differences between her and Karen I think Karen is someone who like very clearly defined rules and boundaries which is because he's very different yeah very difficult in this this family that's got her parents in it that's got been in it she's a great spotter isn't she yeah there's a moment in the farm episode where where she starts quizzing her granddad see you like to be old is it nice it's a great great spotter of inconsistencies and very bright
