hell yeah it's time for time for some more Ramstein Rammstein Rammstein there you go I'm gonna I'm gonna mispronounce all of these names it is time [Music] [Applause] [Music] Rammstein um time to go back and revisit we're gonna listen to their song America with a K in it because you know German um so the America video was filmed in the ruins of the former chemical Factory in reutersdorf near Berlin under the direction of Yorn Heitman I think I got that one right you did it was the fourth video he directed for Ramstein for two days from 5 PM to 5 a.m the band stood in front of the cameras the spacesuits for the moon scenes were rented from Hollywood and 240 tons of Ash were needed to create the moon landscape so I think we're about to have a beautiful visual spectacle to consume here so here we go on Galaxy jams reacts here's the Ramstein 2004 single America America is [Laughter] Nobody Does it Like Rammstein [Music] America America America [Applause] [Music] [Applause] looking for the adventure [Music] of your business [Music] [Applause] oh it's so funny oh I'm very America [Applause] [Music] device [Music] clothes [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh man foreign [Music] yeah get it it's a great keyboard part [Music] oh [Applause] my God it's like so hard to pick apart where to stop there because the whole song was just like raging and I love it like I love The Duality of like seeing these like Tibetan Monks like eating McDonald's you know or whatever it was and uh again it's the music video like they obviously put so much time energy and money into doing this thing and it's for a reason you know they want the song and they want the Legacy and they want to you know essentially show people like this whole environment that they're trying to curate right and like it's really really hard to do that with just music and just a song name and just an album cover like you need more anything that rammstein's doing a great job of giving that more to us you know and uh you know um you mentioned earlier that they were standing in front of uh you know from five to five P 5 P.M to five a.m they stood in front of the cameras for two days straight that's a lot of commitment you know I don't remember the last time I did anything for that long except like play video games or go to sleep for them to be doing that is just absolutely unbelievable what do you think EJ that's why well I don't think they have anything nice to say about America I can't really understand what they're saying but I don't think it's nice yeah which I tried pulling up the closed captioning but there wasn't any of it yeah no they don't want us to know no uh yeah I'm pretty sure it's about how we you know basically overbearing on the world and force our culture on everybody and I'm sure it's uh stuff like that I mean I like the song though it holds up so much and and like watching it and like when it came out 2004 I mean it's even more relevant now than maybe when it came out in 2004 in the sense that like you know it's this late stage capitalism you know they're kind of holding holding the mirror up for us to look into As Americans and say oh your culture is consumerism your culture is like producing products that resonate and see we'll see what you can kind of bleed from from the consumer and you know with what's going on in in kind of the political discussion around the United States right now just with like you know the cost of Health Care and you know the cost of insulin and you know just you know right it seems to be about there's this big discussion going on right now about corporate profits and about like that is the the imprint that we're leaving as a nation and you know they they're they're calling us out on it go ahead I was just gonna say that this is one of those songs too where I think if you're just listening to the audio if I were just listening to the audio for the first time I'd be like oh cool song yeah some of this is like kind of comedic I think like as an American you could listen to it and think that maybe it's a joke but then listening closer to the lyrics and then watching the music video suddenly you realize like well it's not really a joke they're actually trying to make a point and I I think they're trying to you know hold up a mirror a little bit um so that's an interesting sort of experience with the video it like really changes the meaning all of a sudden when you see the visuals and um you know definitely kind of pointing out American consumerism showing up all over the world and just seeing that in your face is different than just listening to the lyrics and hearing them talk about like Wonder bras and Coca-Cola because that's kind of funny when you first hear it but then when you look at it you're like oh actually that's not that funny but isn't that the best way to make the point too is not to just like scream in someone's face but to like show the absurdity of like uh an African tribe like you know sitting on saying right you know I mean that that's like I mean it's just proof is in the the visual they don't have to say too much more yeah and I think that when people say like America's great like they say it in like a cheeky ironic non-ironic way you know they're like America America First we're the best and it's like there's some people that really think that but then there's some people that really don't think that but I feel like even the people that don't really think that they'll they'll be the first ones to chant USA USA you're right you're so right it's like like that you know it's like this Cult of like personality patriotism that keeps the Country Strong sometimes and uh you know but that can it doesn't mean that you should be blind to what's going on and the whole game the whole world stage you know but uh it's still a good way to poke fun and I think that Ramstein did a good job of poking fun of you know what we go through every single day as an American you know I go around thinking like oh you know we're there's different there is no different this is the only country you know what I mean but it's uh you know especially when you're isolated like America is it's really easy I mean like when you're in Europe like you're bordering like so many other countries that you probably pass through like you could date someone that lives in another country right but like in America you don't really do that unless they live in Canada and you're bordering a Canadian Mexico exactly exactly so uh you know well the other thing too that you know I traveling myself the travels I've had and also some of my friends like this I remember this was oh man it hadn't been back probably early 2000s and I had a friend go to uh China for a while and also uh one go-to um and the same person actually went to Europe and they said the thing that was the freakiest is like at the uh pyramids in Egypt there's a Starbucks and a Pizza Hut and a Pizza Hut at Tien at uh the forbidden palace there's a Starbucks and a McDonald's like that's crazy you know and like why do we you know I guess you know it's capitalism people want to make money and stuff like that but when you know what you got to realize is like the majority of us in the United States have no control over that in a way yeah uh would you kind of have control of that in a way uh voting and all that kind of stuff but we're not going to get into that but the uh you know that's more of the corporations and stuff like that that uh that do that and you know and it is I I've been around you know even in Portugal and Spain and places like that and I want to try their stuff I want to try their stuff you just turn into cornrow McDonald's you know it's like I don't even want to see McDonald's there yeah but I mean next to those pyramids like before you know like a thousand years ago they probably had like you know a food cart with like Kebab or whatever you know they like so what's the difference they're just catering to the tourists you know I mean where else am I gonna get my iced caramel macchiato right exactly like when I'm seeing this amazing experience it's making me rethink my Humanity Frappuccino right you know you can't live without my frappuccine because I'm addicted to spending money at Starbucks yeah yeah I went right before this episode the thing that you don't realize is is if you went to a great Egyptian like coffee tea house you'd probably get the best coffee or tea you've ever had yeah yeah no the other thing too is anywhere I've traveled in the world it's always the same music playing in the retail stores too have you guys noticed that yeah yeah and it's like whoa I just walked into the like top 100 like I could just go home and listen to that on the radio and here it is at some random store in France so I just is crazy how a lot of our culture and certainly pop culture is just like everywhere you can't you really can't escape it so yeah it also has to do with the globalization it also has to do with the internet and stuff like that because I was talking to somebody about that just the other day um about how nothing's special anymore right like when you used to travel even just out west in the United States it looked and felt and smelled completely different than the eastern part of the United States it was completely different The South was way different than the North as far as how everything looked but now every strip mall looks the same it's like the same it's like there's only one architect in the United States uh all the houses look the same gentrified blocky looking like you know yeah I mean it looks like Town Center how many Town centers are there we're starving we're unique to like Unforgettable culture well people are just figuring out like how to funnel money better like when you have an area and you have a bunch of money in that area like what's like the best way way to pillage that money it's to create you know Town centers which is what we're talking about is like you know you have like Ruby Tuesdays and like Smokey Bones Cheesecake Factory exactly and like a mall you know what I mean like people are just getting better and better at like sucking the money out of an area to like keep it going right and it's so much easier to just copy and paste the same design than it is to come up with a unique identity and bring in some marketing person to a brand identity for right for your city and you know try to put together something that serves your very unique slice of the population now we're going to mold your population to be like whatever whatever suburb in Ohio that we just right so what's the point of going anywhere why go anywhere anymore USA USA USA thanks for that oh [Applause] Mary we're all living in America sometimes it works I do like how it kind of looks like it's low gravity due to the frame rate [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] even music videos are a product [Applause] which is great I like how they did this yeah it's rutual video [Applause] it's such a fun band [Applause] and they can't help Escape them everything is gone is through their voice their lands their attitude their flavor his voice is insane just like the the Timbre of his voice is so rich and deep like he's so devilishly handsome that's what I was thinking when it was panning out I'm like God damn look at that totally look at that they don't have that in America how long do you think it took them to make that pyramid where they were all standing on each other I don't know it's that's a hard thing that's really hard yeah these are the hard hidden questions here in Galaxy jams reacts so I wonder if it's a scaffolding yeah let us know what Ram Stein song we should listen to next uh thanks again and let us know in the comments what you think about this song we'd love to hear your thoughts and thanks for watching see you at the
