Raised up around the bay

[Music] i can hear the potpot now of the little motorboats and i see my father mended nets of twine from early may to late july with the salmon on the run we fish those nets from dawn to supper time i can see that sawmill now and hear that big saw spinning round make complaints for boats and dories he would build and also see the wood chips flying out from his homemade lake that baseball bat for me my world filled i was a young boy when i first rode in a dory and a young man when i faced a salty spray i'm so proud of my roots glad i wore those rubber boots i'm proud i was raised up around the bay [Music] and my mother she would bake a big old roast with pudding cake and all the homemade bread that we could eat [Music] and every sunday born would find us listen to the preacher talking fire and brimstone shaking in our seats many young men left to go making new lives of their own through newfoundland nova scotian usa and our parents they shed tears with every passing year mama prayed that we all come back home someday i was a young boy when i first rode in a dory and a young man when i faced a salty spray and nothing could be better being dry and rainy weather and your oil skins is on the stage heads towards some place settle down to married life with my children and my wife and the bayman's life was changing rapidly now there's cars and trucks and freighters tvs and computers and there's blacktop where the dirt roads used to be and now our pride and joy are our little girls and boys and our pets play such a big part in our lives something changes stays the same and they'll carry on their names and the big old wheel of life keeps rolling by [Music] i was a young boy when i first wrote in a dory and the young man when i faced the salty spray [Music] i'm so proud of my roots glad i wore those rubber boots and proud i was raised up around the bed and proud i was raised up around the bay [Music] you
