Racist, AI generated recording prompts calls for new laws, better technology

just yesterday police announcing charges against a Baltimore County High School athletic director investigators say that deson Darion used AI to create a fake racist audio recording of Pikeville High School's principal Alex Ashwell spoke with leaders and lawmakers and joins us live now with the action they say must be taken Alexa yes K Maxine better laws and new technology that's the general consensus after investigators say this case highlights just how dangerous AI can be in Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott shellenberger is preparing to prosecute his first case involving the misuse and abuse of artificial intelligence I have to constantly put up with these dumb here every day after County Police say they determined this racist recording was created by Pikesville High School athletic director deson Darian using AI in an effort to frame and retaliate against the school's principal in fact it's one of the first we were able to find around the country um and as uh we dug into this a little bit more uh it seems very clear to me that we may need to uh make our way down to Annapolis house delegate Kathy Scher I absolutely believe we will see legislation next year who represents Baltimore County says there are currently no laws in the books centered on AI and agrees this should change to be specific to AI there isn't law because it's such a new technology of course there are laws on impersonation and fraudulently misrepresenting yourself or another the laws certainly need to be updated and we've seen that in the case of child pornography being streamed last year the legislature had to make a a new law to say that streaming child pornography was illegal the pre previous law had said that possessing child pornography was of course a crime but in streaming pornography you don't possess it scha adding as technology advances so should the tools to protect the public county executive Johnny aleski says he agrees Investments must be made we will also need to invest in new technology that identifies and protects against these emerging threats law enforcement will have to update and and modernize to keep up with criminals government's going to have to step up and invest in the tools to protect the public from crimes like this that could potentially ruin someone's life and as we know in Anapolis session ended earlier this month as for Darion according to court records he posted Bond yesterday in his scheduled to appear in court June 11th reporting live in Baltimore Alexa Ashwell fox45 news I'm Kai Jackson thank you for watching here's another video to watch also please take a moment to subscribe to our Channel
