Quickly Divide Numbers in Excel Without Formulas

in Excel you can add subtract multiply or divide without using a formula here we're going to make a permanent change to these numbers they're shown in millions and we're going to divide them by a thousand so first thing I'll do is enter the value that I'd like to use to divide those numbers so type 1,000 here and then I'm going to click on that cell and copy it you can either use ctrl C as the shortcut or click the copy button then select the cells that you'd like to divide so I've selected these quantities and on the ribbons Home tab click the arrow for paste and paste special in this window we're going to select an operation so here are the ones that are available for this we're going to divide click ok so now these cells have all been divided by a thousand so instead of millions there thousands will format them to tidy things up a bit because some have two decimal places and others have three so on the ribbon I'll click in the number section the comma style and that lines everything up nicely and for a final cleanup I'll click on the cell where I type the thousand and delete that so the worksheet now has numbers that have been permanently changed those millions are gone they've all been divided by a thousand so this is a permanent change it's not like a formula that you can adjust later for more excel tips and tutorials please visit my contexture z-- website at wwlp.com
