the Oculus Quest 2 came out in October 2020 and since then it has been the best bang for your buck headset I love this headset but the tracking on the controllers are not the best since the controllers need to be seen by the headset in order to be tracked ninety percent of the time this isn't an issue but I play a good amount of pool in VR chat so I want controllers that I could put behind my back without fussing with base stations enter the metaquest pro controllers these controllers promise to be able to track themselves anywhere in relation to the headset on top of that they have rechargeable batteries improved haptics and a stylus thing all for poultry 300 US dollars pretty expensive but considering replacement Quest 2 controllers are 160 dollars and the index controllers are 280 dollars it's really not that expensive the controllers and charging dock come in this small but surprisingly heavy box weighing in about two pounds or 900 grams light The Quest 2 the quest Pro controllers come in a brown paper box and a printed sleeve two pieces of tape hold the sleeve on the sleeve was surprisingly hard to pull off the box then opens up to reveal the controllers the controllers have a textured rubber material for the back side of the handle and a smooth plastic for the top and the grip side of the controller you can see the charging port on the side of the controller being the three gold metal pins here you can clearly see the cameras on the controller which are used to track the controller's individual location and the back of the box there is what I imagine to be the warranty in the quick start instructions I didn't really look at them a whole lot next to those the fancy stylus things that can be attached to the back of the controller so you can use them like a sausage pen they're also made of plastic and I don't think I'll be using these either behind the controller packaging there is a charging Mount the charging Mount has a sticky rubber Underside and a three foot long cord with a USBC connector at the end the sticky bottom is actually really sticky when I put it on the table I actually had a hard time pulling it up I guess this is a good thing since it doesn't move around when you try to mount the controllers I was a little upset that the charging cable was a USBC I have a ton of us SBA Chargers but only like one or two USBC Chargers but I guess USBC is taking over the world and I just need to adapt time to mount these controllers and start charging them this should be easy God this is not easy I had so much trouble getting these things attached the first time but once I figured it out they snapped into place with magnets I expected to see a light turn on but upon first inspection they didn't turn on I imagine they would have if I plugged it in now it's plugged in there's only an orange light on the dock with no lights on the controllers I expected to see a charging lights in the controllers oh yeah there was a charger in the Box awkward the Charger's a 45 watt charger pretty non-descript matte smooth black plastic and funny enough when I plugged in the correct charger the lights on the controllers came on also in the box there was a small USBC cable used to charge your headset from the controller Dock and plugs into the front of the controller dock it's a little short but it works just fine it's nice not to need an extra charger for my headset now I need a pair of the quest Pro controllers to my headset after briefly looking at the directions I found it pretty annoying to get them paired for some reason they wouldn't just show up on my phone app so I had to restart the app I checked for updates on my headset and the controllers would not come up after I restarted my headset they did finally pop up and the pairing was actually pretty easy and straightforward once paired the controllers needed to update which took surprisingly long the black bar on the screen actually has a percentage written on it but meta must think that the progress bar is personal information so it wasn't recorded after what seemed like an eternity the controller is finally finished up dating and snapped into use they handled just like the original controllers the vibrations were sharper feeling and the controllers were slightly heavier which I like however right from the beginning the trackingly was surprisingly not good I would place the controllers together to check their tracking to one another and it was off not by a fraction of an inch but by whole inches at times I also would get the occasional message that my room was too dark and my headset could lose its tracking which is a message I don't usually see when I play it seems like the tracking works best in a well-lit room when the controllers are not really close to other obstacles such as sitting in front of your desk with your hands close to the desk and objects on the desk it does seem to get better over time while playing games I don't notice the disjointed tracking at all and games feel pretty much the same as the other controllers the real reason why I got these controllers is because I really enjoy playing pool in VR chat and since I ditched my Vive and index controllers for the Quest 2 it just hasn't been as enjoyable without pulling my hand behind my back to make shots the controllers do what they advertise and track in all positions all right are these controllers worth the 300 I don't know I've used them for a few days now and honestly they handled just like the Quest 2 controllers I think the aiming is better in FPS games because you can really hold the sight of the gun right up to your eye without having tracking problems and there are no tracking rings to get in the way of reloading obviously I get to play VR pool as God intended it but not everybody likes pool as much as I do otherwise I don't even realize I'm using different controllers most of the time sure the haptic feedback is supposed to be better but in the games that I've played I didn't notice any Improvement it's different but not necessarily better or worse I believe the best use case for these controllers are FPS games and if you really love games are required to reach to the side or the back of your headset but if you're playing any other game you're not really going to notice an improvement if you smash your quest 2 controllers and need Replacements and have some extra money to burn they're probably a good option mine is the potentially sketchy tracking but knowing meta's record it's bound to get better over the next coming updates if I were you I would probably just wait to see what the quest 3 comes out with before dropping 300 on an upgrade that you probably don't need thanks for watching
