Quest Now Forcing Age Verification! No More Quest 1 Apps & Tons More!

W how are you all doing yes I am finally back we had a little bit of an Easter break where we spent more time with family and the weather was absolutely amazing but I'm now back and I'm here to tell you all about the latest in AR and VR news so let's jump right into the video beginning first with unfortunately some negative news as the quest one will be officially unsupported next month now it's not going to be entirely dead and I feel like that would be unfair to say as the device will definitely still work it's just no new apps will be able to be published on the quest store supporting the quest one which is very unfortunate but if you want to use the thing for PC VR or play any older titles on it you'll still be able to do so reading from upload VR new Quest store and applab apps won't be allowed to support the original Oculus quest after April 30th the Oculus Quest launched all the way back in May of 2019 almost 5 years ago featuring the Snapdragon 835 chipset from 2017 meta stopped selling it upon launching The Quest 2 in October of 2020 this is not a new device and in order for you know developers to be able to publish new applications I feel it's only fair devices lose support after a certain amount of years don't kill the device you know don't kill the servers to the point where the device won't be able to turn on sign in etc etc but yeah you can and you do have the option of stopping support on new applications I do find it weird though that uh they're straight up saying that no new apps will be allowed on the store I feel like the option for that should be left up to the developers meta first announced the slow deprecation of the quest one in January of 2023 and the last system software release for it was v50 back in February of 2023 though it will continue to receive security updates and Bug fixes until August this year the Quest 2 Pro and three are now on v63 so the quest one is is a bit outdated but thousands of people around the world are still using it and I still sometimes use it for watching movies as that OLED screen in it is absolutely incredible so yeah if you guys are still using and have the quest one you will unfortunately be losing support for any new apps starting next month I just got added to a WhatsApp group called uh binance Ireland crypto definitely not a scam here is an exciting piece of news however is basil from our Discord who has given me tons of kind of more obscure pieces of news in the past has now given me the piece of news that he successfully has it tracking working on his quest 3 I don't have much information on this but he did show me a video proving the fact and he did mention the fact that he's only got one eye working so far even with one eye and the other eye kind of cloning that one eye it looks really really good who knows maybe in the future we're going to have a video of me doing this DIY and showing you guys how you can do it but again I don't have much information on this yet I just have video evidence of it working and the fact that this is a quest 3 now people have fit it tracking into some pretty crazy places in the past so yeah we already knew this was possible but it's just really cool seeing someone from the Discord having it done and actually having it work again excited to see if we can maybe make this a DIY project in the future and excited to see how much it would cost in order to make it happen as it is one of the features I miss most from the quest Pro you know it allowed for fiated rendering and of course VR chat being a lot more realistic looking if you know how how realistic can VR chat be either way though really really cool and I'm excited to see where this goes in the future okay here is a kind of a concerning one for those of you that maybe don't like revealing so much of your personal information we have had multiple videos in the past basically talking about meta enforcing the fact that they don't want children inside their devices that age rating has been slowly reducing throughout the last few years I mean originally I believe it was 16 and uh now it's actually all the way down to 10 but meta is now asking for confirmation during the next few days we will be asked to confirm our ages inside our devices meaning that if you have anyone below the age of 10 trying to use the device on their own account well they won't be able to do so as apparently they're going as far as asking some users to confirm with an ID or credit card reading from road to VR meta announced it's adding an obligatory age confirmation feature on the quest platform which in addition to asking you for your real birthday could also put up a hard barrier for younger users accessing apps that aren't age appropriate which I think is only fair some apps are definitely not age appropriate within the next few days users will be prompted in headset to confirm their age by re-entering their birth date which essentially divides users according to three specific age groups adults teens and preens here's how those tiers will work adults choose between private or public profiles control visibility of activity and manage follower interactions teens default to private profiles with teens having control over follower requests and activity visibility parental supervision tools are available and then 10 to 12 require parental approval for account setup with strict privacy settings and parental control over app access now you may be saying okay yeah this changes absolutely nothing because they can just put in a fake age and get past this security well users who don't want to insert their real birth dates don't seem to have much of a choice in the matter meta is allowing users a 30-day window to reenter birth dates otherwise Quest accounts may be temporarily blocked until you do furthermore the company says in the announcement blog post that users will be able to resubmit previously incorrect birth dates by verifying with the company which is done either by submitting an ID or credit card so it really does seem you do not have a choice in the matter if you do not provide them with an ID or credit card to confirm that you may now have a problem with your device device being locked out until while you're either of age or you provide them with your real information let me know what you think about this one down below I feel like that might be quite an interesting thing in the comments v64 has apparently introduced a new bug well a bug that was fixed and is now back as apparently recording your microphone does not always work when doing screen recording on quest with v64 from Jordan kutzer I'm absolutely losing my mind with meta Quest 3 and pro not recording my mic audio in screen recordings and quoting from Luna on Twitter this seems to be a v64 bug that returned after being fixed in a previous update reminder that you can and should submit bug reports in headset by pressing the meta / Oculus button five times or going into Quick Settings click on the battery SL clock and clicking the bug logo yeah you absolutely should if you guys do find any bugs inside the headset do submit them if we do not submit these bug reports well then meta can fix the bugs The Vision Pro now has 3D spatial personas which look absolutely amazing by the way I've been a big fan of personas since they launched but now they've brought it up another step as the Apple Vision Pros long anticipated spatial personas feature is now available we actually talked about this possibly coming in later in the year and yet it's already here personas are Apple's realistic virtual avatars on Vision OS driven in real time by the headsets eye face and hand tracking sensors since the headsets launch your persona has appeared as a 2d virtual camera feed in any iPad or iPhone app that request the selfie camera inside your Vision Pro as well as Vision OS apps that integrate personas such as FaceTime well now you've got 3D personas meaning your persona can be floating in a virtual space turning around and you have full 3d view of the Avatar it is really cool and looks like it works really really well from the videos that apple is showcasing here apple is offering three spatial Persona positioning templates for developers side by side surround and conversational I think it's really cool and I think spatial personas was the right way to go I mean 2D was obviously just the beginning and it had an obvious upgrade that was just waiting to happen and this was that upgrade looks really cool I hope meta comes out with something like this in the future as again I don't know I'm a big fan of realistic looking avatars in virtual reality it just tricks my brain and it's fun being able to instantly recognize someone sometimes I would like to have a realistic looking Avatar or someone that I know sitting with me here in my room in AR Netflix is selling the headset featured in its latest TV series three-body problem which heavily features characters accessing a shared virtual reality unfortunately it's just a prop but it's actually pretty cool as far as nonfunctioning Collectibles go it's quite unfortunate that it is just a prop but it's pretty cool that Netflix is selling something here considering let's be honest they haven't been absolutely amazing with virtual reality applications as far as that goes but they are selling props and it does look like a pretty cool device if it was to exist people are saying the proportions on it are actually really ni nice I think it's fair to say we won't be getting the Netflix VR headset but it would be quite an interesting project if someone more technically minded was to get one and actually make it work like imagine getting this device right it's a prop and you take the insides of like a quest Pro and shove it into this and somehow make it work I think that would be quite interesting and a pretty cool project if someone wants to take that on it's $110 it's actually it's not the worst thing ever I mean it's quite expensive for a prop but definitely not the worst thing ever either way though that's going to be it for today's video thank
