hey guys how's it going this morning so today we are gonna be finishing up replacing some stalls here in our barn we did twelve stalls yesterday and I didn't get very much recording done because if we were having some trouble placing the math in here actually so today we're gonna be finishing up hopefully we are only gonna replace the ones that actually need replacing there is some really bad ones and there are also some really good stalls yet in this barn these things are about sixteen years old already so they are kind of shot but they also are still doing what they're supposed to do [Music] are you doing okay we're doing the quarter you want to see what we did yesterday of course you do ready set go [Music] so we're doing here we're putting a foam down and wrapping in some poly to make sure the foam doesn't get wet because it's calm down wet it would just deteriorate and get all finished underneath [Music] so here's the four stalls we're gonna be replacing this morning and you can see it all pulled out and fold it back definitely not comfortable for the cows because I wouldn't want to lay on that [Music] so we start this morning we're gonna take all five cows right here the first four stalls are actually really bad they're all pushed back and pulled out of their anchors so we're gonna take out these four cows right here and we'll start demolishing this I put you on time-lapse to see you can see the whole process of overdoing so after those four stalls is actually really good still here these these beds are still nicely intact so for now we are only going to replace the ones that are destroyed and wrecked we are going to keep the good ones for now but the plan is to eventually do the whole barn with all new bits [Music] so these are the old mats all it is really is this cover right here and then they're supposed to be this is foam that went on top of this cover here this is a these tubes are here all filled with crushed rubber and as you can tell that this bed is finished that's why we're replacing them so these are the new mats we just finished yesterday so what's under here the inch and half foam and then we put a big rubber piece on top really comfortable for the cows as you can tell they're squishing their feet in it [Music] so we really strive to do cow comfort here because we don't have cow comfort you don't have good cow health and you don't have very good production so I just took the first mat out of this first dollar here and I was thinking to myself by looking at this concrete it looks like back in that day when his barn was built in 47 at least this front part of the barn was it looks to me like the cows are actually sitting and laying on just a concrete alone so imagine being a Cowrie here how the concrete's all worn out right here so this is where the front feet would have been when they were standing in stall so that's all worn out so they were definitely just laying on concrete back in the 50s then back here also it's kind of all worn out and in the middle is nice and smooth so that just proves today us as farmers really strive to make cows comfortable in their stall cow comfort and cow health so they got that under control in the barn there I got two shelters I got a bed down the straw so we're gonna get that done and then we'll check it back in with them after I'm done so here we're gonna grab some dry cow feed we're gonna feed them and then give them some straw in their shelter if you guys were to watch my last my feeding video you this is where I dump the feed and this is how I grab it and this is how I actually feed them also [Music] so I just grabbed a scoop don't dump it in there feeder then I come grab another scoop hi girls fun she's gonna make sure they don't run behind me and get out so this here is all our dry collars and pregnant heifers and they stay we have this big shelter right here behind the barn and this is where they eat sleep and live their life until they are ready to have a baby [Music] so now they're fed now we're gonna put some straw under that shelter there so we have two shelters like that they're both 36 feet wide and 80 feet long we usually give them about a bale of straw every day especially the mail cows that are in the front of the bar [Music] [Music] [Music] gotta make sure this gets closed up because I am NOT a fan of chasing cows at all [Applause] [Music] sometimes I wish this was an electric drill hey girls you like your feed tasty yeah looks tasty [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this doesn't really have to be too perfect the cows will come in here and kick it around themselves too I just kind of like to walk around and break up any bigger chunks hey girl make your straw take that as a yes [Music] [Music] my girls huh girls one boy girls gone hey four girls huh huh girls come on come on girls so one here we really like to keep these ones extremely clean or we try to at least but they there's both 30 cows in a small shelter one girl fun right so this front shelter in front of the barn right here this is our milk cows this is what we call like the overflow that don't fit in the barn we are expanding so this is where we keep them for now we have a makeshift parlor set up in front of the bar in there they go through in that door milk five at a time and they come out and we just keep doing that till we're done do we do both six shifts takes an hour and a half to milk 30 cows [Music] at college little cows having too much fun come on girl move my girl fun sometimes you gotta be really careful here to make sure you don't back over a cow or hit one because they don't really have anywhere to go other than just in front of the shelter as I do this [Music] so the shelter and a front right here they get a bail every single day and the shelter I just finished doing they get a bail every about three days these ones we have to try and keep extremely clean and we have to really concentrate on keeping local sight of cell counts in here [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so now we got this done let's go back and check in on guys and see what they're up to you guys look happy hey girl I mean [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so here's what the finished mat looks like for now where's leaving us like this is where we ended off cuz those are all direct ones and after later in fall we're going to redo the old barn so just get put down some straw and bring cousing [Music] time to milk some cows alright guys that'll be it for this video make sure you hit the like button hit
