[Music] awesome guys welcome back to the channel the living in reno i'm joe hanick i've got first name last name brian jakara ryan chikvara here he is going to be our carson city expert um we are going in depth today on the pros and cons of living in carson city nevada uh the capital right absolutely yeah capital of nevada i think it doesn't get the credit it deserves a little bit um it's more than vegas that's for sure yes yes what's the building we got behind us uh it's the paul lagfault state building so it's actually built back in 1891 it's the the old post office from way back in the day it's beautiful absolutely beautiful so we chose a perfect backdrop guys we're almost in december um we've got long sleeves on but it's hot yeah i'm feeling warm oh it's comfy um so beautiful weather if you are coming from um different areas know the winter time we might get a little bit of snow here and there we get sunshine the very next day so it's beautiful anyways we are going to get into it we're going to be going over all the pros and cons and what it's like to live in carson city nevada and without further ado let's get into it what's our what's our very first pro that we have going for us here so carson is is located just 30 minutes south of reno um i just location relation i'd say is the number one one pro there um you're 45 minutes to south lake so lake tahoe is very close to reno as well but uh south lake with the casino state line the skiing all the amenities up there you're definitely closer down to carson so perfect and as far as um they just built right the new highway that new yeah is it the 580 yeah so uh the connector i used to just get off in north arena carson we've got uh we got some country folk around here so no so uh yeah you used to just have to get off in north reno there and they have a big connector that goes all the way now to south carson um which leads you directly to south lake tahoe um so that cuts a huge chunk of time off when you're driving through just easy access yeah like ryan was saying before you would have to go through right smaller cities it would take a little bit um to draw the red lights here exactly and just a pain and all also too for everybody living kind of in that area the traffic that they would have kind of a pain in the ass and so now with that connector we've talked about it on many of our videos before it gets you from south reno into carson in you know 15 20 minutes yeah absolutely which is fantastic location proximity to south lake tahoe yeah 45 minutes there like i was saying if you're going to drive from reno you can hit north lake relatively quickly but once you start driving around that lake it's going to be closer to an hour hour 15 so definitely cut off some time there real cool beaches on that side there's sand harbor stuff like that so beautiful and we've got uh quite a few people reaching out to us for that exact reason they obviously love the reno area carson area um but they want that close proximity to to tahoe absolutely so when you are looking at that you know right near right next to tahoe to get up there within what 25 minutes yeah absolutely if that um carson is going to be um going to get you there a lot quicker than obviously living in reno nevada um what is the population it feels like it's a quite a bit smaller than reno yeah so it's actually it's been it's been pretty steady at about 55 000 um for a long time it's it's kind of crazy it's it's when i was growing up here it's about 50 to 52 it's grown a little bit to 55 57 fluctuates a little but pretty steady yeah that's kind of interesting um and we were kind of talking a little bit before the video you know obviously there's we're seeing kind of the the renovations the the um gentrifying going on but that population is staying the same yeah what contributes what do you think contributes to that you know i i'm not really sure exactly what it is i know space wise there's not as much you know reno has a lot of area around it still for new home development and growth and things of that nature um carson's old enough where it's kind of just in that valley they've stretched it to the the brink here and there i guess you could say um and we've got then some surrounding cities too yeah that are kind of starting to grow a little bit and so that might be taken away from some of the population here yeah so much how i think you know sparks is in in reno there's really no divide they're they're right on top of each other is kind of what's starting to happen with carson and minden douglas gardnerville they're all kind of synonymous those names together there but those two uh communities are definitely starting to rub up against each other so so we'll circle back the one of the pros right to living here is then just going to be your small town feel yeah 55 000 people or less um you don't really feel like you're on top of each other there's room there's space to kind of grow here um close cities minded nevada is going to be what are we south directly south yeah so that's directly south of carson city um and that's about 20 minutes um down to there um one high school down there as well so kind of the same vibe a little bit smaller than carson but definitely a lot of the same vibes down there so definitely awesome [Music] um and then also i guess just real quick uh another one that i had kind of considered um genoa is right down there genoa one of the oldest cities in nevada it's the second oldest settlement in all of nevada so that's a real cool place to to vacation off to maybe take a weekend trip or something like that but um just kind of an old school like little town with a nice block but absolutely beautiful out there just gorgeous i've heard fantastic things about there um couple golf courses out there yeah couple golf courses uh really nice wedding venue i've been to a couple weddings out there yeah yeah absolutely gorgeous so beautiful spot a little spend year though right yeah we're talking like median home price i think we were looking um over 500 000 which is more than reno uh more than any area in here but again you're going to be right at the base in genoa yeah of the sierras right yep right at the base of the mountains there it's absolutely beautiful ridiculous so if you are looking here look at genoa too yeah even if you're just going there to grab lunch you know or golf or whatnot um absolutely beautiful uh one thing we're kind of walking the whole downtown carson area checking out some of the breweries uh just some of the awesome old buildings um that are here but it's clean oh yeah it is explain that as to why kind of we have that cleanliness that is night and day from reno yeah i think a huge part of that uh they just put in some improvements down here and things of that nature with new sidewalks the city is definitely more walkable um but that being said we're a five-minute walk from the capitol in the legislature and stuff like that and so uh going back to us being the capital not not vegas uh we do get that little bit of of of cleanliness which is based off of where the the picturesque of the capitals yeah you know yeah keep things neat and tidy looking nice just in case we have anybody coming through yeah we're showing the uh and you said the capital was in carson city not vegas yeah yeah imagine that joe who would have thought i'm learning something every single day we're learning something here yep uh which is great uh let's talk talk about another pro we discussed uh the weather right we touched on it just a second ago uh yeah you get all four seasons here um it can be a little wonky here and there you know it snows in the middle of summer every now and again but yeah it's what we get coming off in the sierra nevada's whatever california provides us almost we get it every now and again but for the most part summer's hot we are a desert but we do get snow up on the mountains i'm looking at snow right now we're so close to tahoe ski and all that stuff yeah yeah beautiful fall and in spring we don't get too much rain or anything like that but it's a you know nice temperate season so exactly love it um and that's why again a lot of people are moving here the four seasons we're getting everything but the winter is not harsh guys trust me i'm coming from the northwest um northern idaho and i keep telling my friends right now they're getting dumped on with snow and i am just so thankful that we've got sunshine here and it's 50 you know 55 plus degrees almost december and we were talking about golfing exactly exactly if we didn't have to work so much we would have been golfing yep that's true cool so last pro we're going to talk about um we're always talking about golf courses and things like that in reno but how many golf courses do we have near nearby here so nearest to us i mean we have uh seven resorts if you will so he was saying genoa has two courses so that's one resort itself but they have two courses so we have nine courses total though uh within about 20 minutes of where we're sitting in downtown reno so there's uh you can go out to dayton they've got a nice a real nice course out there actually it's one of my favorites uh i i currently we both live in reno and so sometimes it's a struggle in reno with golf courses there's a lot out there but some of them are a little bit more pricey if you're willing to make the drive down here definitely and what's cool too about that one out in dayton valley um is it's part of the uh the duncan golf resort right absolutely so i think there's four that are included um if you get a membership through the duncan golf resorts that one is part of it it's a difficult course yeah it is but uh it's got some cool views out there yeah it's beautiful a lot of water um which isn't a thing in many of the desert courses around us so yeah yeah yeah so it does put you in proximity to a lot of the uh the golf courses so if it is something again that you're looking for that golf course living um or you know something of that nature just want a little bit different courses there's a there's quite a bit out here yeah and i think we were actually we we kind of skipped over one of the things when we were talking small town vibes a little bit and going back to like the golf courses and things of that nature is there are tons of local restaurants around us yeah i mean we just did a little walk down this block here uh past a brewery yeah mark yesterday's a kind of a large name out in reno and he's got a couple spots down here that are just absolutely fantastic so um even though it is a lot smaller you are seeing then some of your nicer um restaurant tours yeah come through here and kind of open up yeah because every now and again you think you know small when we were talking small town vibes some of those small towns you know you drive through and you got your burger king your mcdonald's yes um so there's more than that down here though yeah definitely um and it is cool i'm actually looking forward to uh grabbing a bite to eat after this oh yeah grabbing the brewski um but again guys do want to touch on um you know when you are looking for a house here in carson whether it's reno you got to reach out to us call us text us shoot us an email um we need to figure out your lifestyle to see what is best fit um there are a lot of rural rural kind of areas around carson so as far as like horse properties if you're looking for acreage and things like that i would say carson city is the place over over reno yeah absolutely i've uh had a lot of friends that grew up in kind of the little back area neighborhoods where they got about an acre of land maybe a little greenhouse here there uh one of my friends they had a spot directly next to a little like alpaca farm oh there we go yeah they were about four outback is out there hang out what kind of trouble would you guys get into i can only imagine you know you know just the we had a little bow and arrow sit in the backyard and stuff but we were we were for the targets we weren't going after alpacas yeah you need to learn some stuff out there so that's funny yeah alpacas can get a little aggressive oh yeah yeah don't hands through the fence are a bad idea put it that way oh good stuff all right so we went over all the pros um and now let's go over some of the cons right yeah we kind of we touched on carson having that small town feel as a pro but in the same sense it's a con right as far as the industry goes i mean it all depends on your lifestyle too so um as far as industry goes like you were saying we were we had kind of looked into some things and carson tahoe employs about 2 000 people so you know that's great if you're an industry worker hospital wise you know a nurse um cna all that sort of stuff but then we also do rely a lot on on gaming so um with with the small town vibes you know you kind of have that like that hospital uh the gaming that employs a lot of people and then other than that it is small town so my dad was a bread driver my mom worked at the bank so yeah um it is more more traditional jobs if you will definitely and and talking on the con of kind of a small town uh ryan just touched on the uh carson regional um or tahoe regional medical center yeah right and that was built 2005. yeah so that's that's we looked at that as a as a big pro as well though definitely yeah that's a huge pro they employ over or about 2 000 employees there uh so just a fantastic option um and a great hospital yeah i mean growing up um when i was growing up at least excuse me everyone went to reno for for any medical care for the most part everybody i know was born in reno that is totally changed carson tahoe is a great hospital i have a couple friends that work there actually and they're full service so yeah yeah yeah i've heard pretty decent things too about their birthing center as well yep um so that uh cons small town feel more traditional jobs not huge industry here um and a lot uh relying heavily on gaming yeah yeah so you know just going back to that small town it really depends on your lifestyle you know absolutely because we had mentioned things if you're looking for concerts things of that nature that's all going to be up in reno you're going to be at one of the casinos watching the big names uh everything down here is a little bit smaller you're not gonna have huge concerts uh down here or anything like that yeah so with it being a con because they don't have it directly here in carson south lake tahoe puts on some of the best concerts yes right they bring in um some of the best uh music artists probably in the industry outdoor has them all oh it's beautiful blue awesome you can head right over to reno 20 minutes you're right there yep the fact that you don't have it here so what it's an easy drive it's a nice weekend stay if you're just willing to go down to tahoe see a concert and hang out for a night it's awesome definitely definitely um once music comes back that is of course yeah hopefully it's interesting later it's serious um another con the wind yeah every every everybody i talked to you know reno nevada carson whatever it's always like the wind a little bit yeah absolutely i mean we were just talking as pros of weather uh sometimes it comes whipping off that mountain and i was telling joe growing up i had a number of times where i lived on a little back stretch there and you could drive down that that stretch and eight of the 26 houses might have their their fence blown up yeah i mean it's just a pain in the ass you get some some 45 mile an hour winds in your neighborhood that you would never expect definitely and we just uh kind of saw it too with the fire season a little bit yeah um ripped through colin ranch unfortunately and right when we've got 40 50 60 mile an hour winds yeah it's tough and it kind of you right it's it's a pain in the ass to be outside um golfing forget about it right yeah they'll let you pay for it and go out there and try to golf but uh it's you're not golfing at that point yeah well we mentioned uh all the water out on date and the wind doesn't help with that either yeah not a chance so keep in mind that uh the wind does come through um just pay attention to it yeah right something everybody has to deal with somewhat in there but yeah it's a little bit more intense here than people know that's for sure definitely all right and we're going to talk about the last con and it's uh the schooling that we have here yeah in carson and i want to preface a little bit that um it's not a con for the fact that the education system it's any worse than your reno or anywhere else in nevada it's just because we're limited yeah being a small town you know we have six elementary schools two middle schools and there's just the one high school so as far as options there aren't any when once you're in high school there i mean there is a charter school off to the side there but um anyone and everyone's at that high school so yeah definitely and you were saying it is a pretty big high school it's it's a huge high school so when i graduated actually we had one of the larger graduating classes um around i think 800 students graduated with me so it's small town where everyone knows everyone but when you're one of 800 you actually don't know everyone i can promise you that so sushee well awesome guys i think that about covers it you got anything else to kind of add no i think that's a good start here awesome so pros and cons if there's any more information you guys need again call us text email whatever you have to do give us a shout we're here we got your back when moving to carson city nevada we're out thanks [Music] you
