My name’s Professor Jason Pomeroy, I’m an architect, academic and urban planner. I’m passionate about cities and I’m the founding principle of Pomeroy Studio and Pomeroy Academy. Climate change to me is filling me with fear and dread on a daily basis particularly when I think about my children and their children in the future that’ll be growing up in this circumstance. 86 million barrels of oil are consumed on a daily basis which is equivalent to filling five Pyramids of Giza. And so that’s a lot of consumption that we need to be really conscious of. What we need to start doing is designing our built environment in a more sight sensitive, environmentally sensitive way, especially as 50% of our carbon emissions come from the built environment. And so that’s something that we’re incredibly passionate about; we want to create those green cities, those green buildings, those green landscapes that cut down on consumption, look towards clean energy solutions and are ultimately sustainable. It’s very much about learning lessons from the past, in order to influence the design and research that we can provide for the current generation. And then disseminating that knowledge for future generations to ensure that we are creating more sustainable built environments that are good for our children in the future.
